Such a good first look, can't wait for more. It's been a while since I've read something from Rick Riordan. Nico and Will are my favorites characters out of this series of books so it's really exciting to finally have their book.

I loved returning to the world of Camp Half-Blood and Percy Jackson. I was so excited to see that Nico Di Angelo was getting his own prominent storyline. Previously we only saw him as a side character and through the eyes of others. This glimpse into Nico didn't disappoint! Having dual authors made it a bit different from the previous books but it wasn't a bad thing. It was definitely written with a younger audience in mind with more jokes and cheesy bits. Overall, it was a well written story that I can't wait to include in my classroom library.

Absolutely thrilled to be getting more of Nico as I love this character so much. Being back in the world was a breath of fresh air and I’m excited and hopeful for more!

Finally getting a story of just Nico is everything we needed from Rick riordan. I am in love with this story and this made me truly ready to embrace my demons.

I have been a fan of the Percy Jackson universe since I picked them up in elementary school and this book is another fun addition.
One thing I loved about this one and with many of the new editions in the universe is how Rick has handed the pen over to authors who can write certain experiences with more heart and realism than he can. You can see that in and care given to the queer experience in this book compared to other Percy Jackson books. The downside is that I could tell which parts the different authors wrote, Rick has such a distinctive style, one that I grew up with that I could tell when it was not him.
I am so glad to finally see Nico growing to be much more comfortable in his skin and to be happier ( and still his grumpy son of Hades self). It was so fun and I'm glad I still get to read new Percy Jackson books!

This had the potential to be amazing, but it fell so flat. It was VERY clearly written by 2 authors and didn't fit into Rick Riordan's style/world very well. Will and Nico felt very unlike themselves at times and the flashback style of telling the story was very jarring and definitely not a thing that usually happens in the Percy Jackson universe.
I enjoyed the general premise of going to Tartarus to rescue Bob but that's about where my enjoyment ceased.
I get it, Will is sunshine in human form and Nico is darkness. But calling him "Grumpy Ball of Darkness" constantly got really annoying quickly. Will felt very useless and a constant burden, while Nico was super quick to take offense to literally everything Will would say.

The Cocoa Puffs was a VERY weird choice and was awkward and uncomfortable honestly.

I've been a Rick Riordan fan since I picked up my first Percy Jackson book. And then I fell in love with Nico. So I was thrilled that we finally get Nico's and Will's story as the adventure continues. And it's from their point of view.

The writing is solid, creating a vivid atmosphere, but the plot is a mix of captivating moments and predictability. Characters are well-developed, though some lack depth. Pacing fluctuates, making it a decent but not outstanding read.

I enjoyed the story and adventure. I read Percy Jackson growing up as a young closeted queer kid and I think had I had more representation in big buzzy series such as this it would have made coming out and coming into myself easier. It was refreshing to see a queer relationship in middle school novel.

DNF. I really liked the premise but the writing did not work for me at all. It wouldn't be fair to the book if I finished reading and gave it a low rating.

Percy Jackson was one of my favorite series when I was younger, so I was excited to return to Camp Half-Blood and read Nico’s story.

I remember Nico always being the grumpy, keep-to-himself, lonely kid. But when he met Will, he became a much happier kid. They’re opposites, but they’re good for each other.

Anyway, this brought all the humor I’ve come to associate with Rick Riordan’s books, and some new elements from Mark Oshiro as well. Nico and Will go on a journey, or a quest rather, and it’s riddled with danger and discovery.

Ah, this brought me so much nostalgia, and Nico and Will ended up learning more about not only each other, but themselves as well. And they healed, especially Nico (who, if you’ve read the previous books, you’d know he had been through a LOT). Anyway, I’m excited for the next Percy Jackson book.

Gloriously brilliant in its myth-laden storytelling and riotously funny in the signature Riordan way, reading The Sun and the Star felt like returning back home in best possible way.

God this is so stunning to revisit the PJO world. I love revisiting secondary characters who meant so much to me in the original series. I love the contrasting writing styles of Mark and Rick. This was gorgeous.

I absolutely loved returning back to Rick Riordan's universe, and a queer romance made it even more special. I also loved this collab with Mark Oshiro! Will and Nico's journey to Tartarus was so cute and amazing to read. Love that two queer kids can just exist and go on adventures without being questioned along the way.
