This review is based on the first five chapters of the book, which were available from the publisher and NetGalley. It’s difficult to give a review based on just a sample, but the book so far contains Riordan’s trademark ability to tell a serious story with oddball humor mixed throughout. The story looks like it will focus on the trauma that Nico has built up through the previous books, along with his relationship with his boyfriend Will, so hopefully there will be some kind of happy resolution for him. I’ll be looking forward to reading the full book and learning the fate of Bob the Titan.

This was the first few chapters of the book and it has me craving for more! I love being back in the world of demigods - is it May 2 yet?

This book picks up soon after the conclusion of the Tower of Nero, there's little review of the previous books, but enough events are sprinkled in, that even if you haven't read the previous books, you'd be able to pick up the story quite quickly. I really appreciate that Rick Riordan collaborated with Mark Oshiro in order to provide a genuine and believable queer and Latinx inner voice to Nico, that we haven't experienced before. This was the ultimate act of allyship, as Rick could have very easily written the story himself, but instead he chose to lift another's voice and was self-aware enough to realize that in order to share with readers an authentic story, it needed to be from someone who have that lived experience. Rick Riordan's writing style does not seem any different compared to his previous works, and this story was just as engaging. The themes of this book are so relevant to today and I love that readers now have another character that they can identify with, a queer, Latinx character that has struggled with trauma, but doesn't forget his friends.

A blurb of the first five chapters. I thought it was pretty good. I'm looking forward to the full book, this has been a series that's been in my life since I was young and even if it's written for a younger audience and the style isn't my thing, I'm still very excited for this. The quality of the first five chapters definitely has me looking forward to the entire thing!

I only really got to read the first fifty or so pages of this book through a NetGalley sampler, so I cannot give a complete review on this book. Even if I did get the whole book, however, it would be a bit difficult to review a book about a character who was absolutely integral to my childhood development, and I am much older than the target age for, because the passage of time is something that never seems significant until you realize that you are older than the characters that you grew up with.

Rick Riordan's token humor and lovable characters are back in The Sun and the Star. I was quick to download and read the sample offered on Netgalley, after growing up with the Percy Jackson characters. Prior to my ADHD diagnosis, they were the first characters to make me feel truly seen. I loved every minute of those books as a kid, and even when I re-read them as a 16 year old, I felt distraught knowing I was about to outgrow my favorite characters. Nico and Will brought me back to that passionate care for all of Camp Half-Blood, and I cannot wait to read the rest of it after its release in May. Any fans of Rick Riordan's novels, at Camp Half-Blood or otherwise, will adore The Sun and the Star.

I really enjoyed reading this sampler! It's been a while since I've read Riordan's prior series, but the setup for this book is a great refresher without being a boring recap of past installments. I'm excited to read the rest when it releases in May!

I have been eager to read Nico and Will's story. This teaser has me excited to read the full novel. What I read was intriguing and I'm excited to see Rick Riordan expand this story and these characters we have loved in his previous work.

I am extremely excited to read the rest of the book. I am excited to see where it heads because right now it is dark and gloomy but I hope it gets better. I am so excited that Nico and Will are getting their own book. After everything they have been through, I hope they get a happy ending but it's not looking to good right now.

Sampler provided by Disney Publishing Worldwide, Disney Hyperion via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this sampler and I am even more excited about the book now. When I requested it, though, I thought I was getting the full novel, so please state that it is not the whole book *cries*.

This is only a preview, which I wish was noted in the description, but it a strong start to the new Nico book. Giving 5 stars for now, because it was well done, and I can’t accurately judge an entire book based on a preview.
