Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author, for an ARC of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
I read & loved Lucy Clarke's last book, "One Of The Girls" so I was super excited to read her newest book, "The Hike".
I found "The Hike" to be an addictive thriller that was full of tension & suspense. It had alot of twists that kept me guessing to the very end.
I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for her next book.

The Hike was fine but nothing memorable and I think within a week I’ll struggle to remember any details. I’m always drawn in to stories that start with a group of friends go hiking/camping and don’t all come back. So maybe I’ve read too many of them but this just felt like nothing that hasn’t been done before.
I also have a tough time buying how the final conflict went down and also some messaging that bordered on victim blaming. Not a fan.
Thank you to the publisher, PRHaudio and Netgalley for the advance reading and listening copies.

The Hike takes readers on a thrilling journey into the untamed wilderness of Norway, where four friends seek an escape from their troubled lives. Burned-out by the demands of marriage and work, Liz persuades her friends to embark on a four-night camping adventure in the majestic mountains. The promise of a reset and the beauty of the Norwegian landscape draw them in.
The book excels in creating an atmosphere of isolation and unease. The remote location, lack of cell coverage, and the ever-present sense of being alone in the wild contribute to a palpable tension. As the group ventures deeper into the wilderness, it becomes evident that they are not the only ones seeking solace among the mountains.
The story is packed with suspense, and the author effectively keeps you guessing about the hidden dangers lurking in the woods. The secrets concealed in the wilderness are darker than anticipated, adding an intriguing layer to the plot. The tension and the feeling of being watched build steadily, creating an eerie and gripping narrative.
The Hike is a thrilling adventure into the unknown, blending elements of suspense, isolation, and the mysteries of nature. It's a captivating read that will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you enjoy tales of survival and the dark secrets hidden in the wilderness, this book is worth the hike.
3.5 stars! Thank you Netgalley for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review!

Wow what a ride! I love Lucy Clarke and The Hike is no exception. Fast paced thriller that surprises from beginning to end. Great setting for the book and an amazing cast of characters. I highly recommend. Thank you NetGalley and Putnam Publishing for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my review.

Girl trip gone wrong? Heck yes! Join four friends who go on a yearly holiday as they find out that if the people won’t get you, nature will. Throughly enjoyed this book even though the beginning was a bit slow. I liked being able to read about all the characters perspectives. All of them were well developed.

The Hike, by Lucy Clark, is a character-driven, slow burn thriller about four friends who take an annual trip together. These longtime friends reconnect each year at an exotic locale to catch-up on one another’s lives and spend time together.
This year it’s Liz’s turn to chose, and she plans a hiking adventure to the remote mountains of Norway. This expedition is far more daunting than their usual trips, but Liz has her reasons. The women are all reluctant, but it’s hard to say no to Liz and the chance to be altogether. And each woman needs a getaway for their own reasons.
Each of these four friends has struggles they they are dealing with in their lives, secrets they are keeping from one another, as well as some personal issues and resentments between them. Despite all, their foursome has history and they maintain a relatively unified bond.
I was caught up in these characters’ lives and I enjoyed the insights into their inner thoughts, the introspection, and assessment of their lives and reflections on their choices. I was also intrigued to see how the impending
journey would play out. The plot is wrought with tension and trouble and a distinct sense of foreboding.
It definitely had some plot points that felt implausible and situations that felt unrealistic. I’m not sure who would sign up on a rigorous hiking adventure without specific planning and preparation, or without responsibly checking the conditions and
risks. Regardless, I was fairly captivated by the tale and appreciated the contemplative conclusion.
Like Lucy Clarke’s previous stories, The Hike is atmospheric and suspenseful. I found this story to be eerie, entertaining, surprisingly reflective and a fun and engaging read.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me an advanced copy of Lucy Clarke's The Hike.
When I read the premise of The Hike, I was really excited to jump in. Lucy Clarke's multi-POV style is very similar to Lucy Foley who is one of my favorite authors. I found myself devouring each perspective from Maggie, Liz, Helena, and Joni. I was left guessing to the last minute who was the killer with a final twist surprising me in a good way. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Lucy Clarke.
CW: Drug use, descriptions of high-risk sexual behavior, on-page physical assaults and dangerous wilderness-related activities.

Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins for the advanced copy of this book. If you're looking for a super easy, light read, then this book is for you. Entertaining for a psychological thriller, which I love to read, and enjoyed the mountainous setting in Norway. This book won't leave you pondering the important issues in life, but it is a good fast paced thriller.

The Hike was everything that I wanted in a thriller. It is fast paced, takes place in a treacherous location with unpredictable weather and outcomes, unfolds in multiple viewpoints with some unreliable characters, and is full of twists and turns that readers do not see coming. What starts out as a wild camping and hiking adventure in Norway with 4 female friends turns into a deadly game of cat and mouse between an unknown predator lurking on the mountain trails.

I absolutely loved how this one opened with a prologue where we know a woman is dead in the mountains, but we know very little else. Then, the book pops to present day bouncing between the POV of four friends:
🎸 Joni the Rockstar who’s a bit absent and loves her drugs
🥼 Liv the Doctor who is taking time apart from her husband
👩👧 Maggie who is away from her daughter for the first time
👠 and Helena the kinda uptight business women
Their friendship is far from perfect and we see that play out with the stress of each day of their hiking trip wearing on them each in different ways where there frustrations are coming to the surface as they are feeling watched and like they are not alone out in the wilderness.
Then, disaster strikes while on their trip stuck without access to cell service or help which gave definite locked room thriller vibes.
The alternating POV’s also made this one such a fast paced read as you are constantly bouncing POV from one short chapter to the next detailing their progress on their hike.
“The journey was never about making it to the peak. You climbed- and kept climbing- to push through the struggle and experience the glimpses of beauty along the way. For how the climb made you feel.”
Thank you so much to the publisher for my ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Wow, I was invested in this book from the first page! Lucy Clarke really knows how to draw you in. I read it in one sitting!

Four friends go on an annual trip this year to Norway. What happens is they get more than they expected. There's secrets, danger, and suspense, all while in a picturesque location. What more could you want?
This is one for readers who enjoy suspense and thrillers.
This was my first Lucy Clarke book, but it won't be my last!
Thanks, NetGalley, Lucy Clarke, Penguin Group Putnam & G.P. Putnam's Sons for this ARC.

Four friends set off to hike up a mountain in Norway. What could possibly go wrong? The Hike is everything that I love in a thriller. Who do you trust? Do you trust your friends that you’ve known for years? Can you trust the people you just met at the lodge before heading off on your hike? The tension was dripping off the pages, and at moments it was terrifying.
I thought the pacing was excellent and I had a hard time putting this one down. I enjoyed the different POVs as it gives more insight into each individual characters thoughts and the story as a whole. There were so many twists and they just seemed to keep coming.
The Hike gave me some of the same vibes as Reckless Girls by Rachel Hawkins so if you enjoyed that one then you’d probably enjoy this one as well.
I loved the Hike and highly recommend this one to thriller fans. A solid four stars for me.

A classic dark wilderness thriller but I wasn't sold on the conviction of the characters. They made silly decisions that were frustrating.

A twisty, multi-POV thriller sure to be popular with my library patrons. Very similar to Clarke's other thriller, One of the Girls, which I enjoyed. Not the best thing I've ever read, but definitely gripping and thrilling, an easy read.

a fantastic thriller that kept me guessing

I never fail to be totally entertained by Lucy Clarke's destination thrillers. This time she takes us hiking in the mountains of Norway, and, if the tag line doesn't get you, I don't know what will. "No help. No cell coverage. No one to hear them scream." I loves the interplay between the four longtime friends, and they're all so relatable, like any one of them could be a friend. Would I go on a four-day remote hiking adventure with my friends? No. Did I love to read about theirs? Absolutely! I already can't wait to see where Lucy Clarke takes us next!!

Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. This was my first Lucy Clark book. This book is about a group of friends that each year one gets to pick a destination that they go on a girls trip to. This year, the friend selected a hike in Norway. This book was just the middle of the road for me.

Book Description:
It's once again time for an annual girls' trip for four childhood friends. This year is Liz's turn to plan, and she has chosen to hike in a remote part of Norway. Joni, Maggie, and Helena aren't exactly keen on Liz's plan, but they all agree they need time away to reflect. What should be an exploration of the beauty of Norway ends up testing their friendship as they fight for survival. You're in the middle of nowhere with limited cell phone coverage and some shady people lurking about. What could go wrong?!
My Thoughts:
I loved the dark, moody vibes of The Hike! Suspicious characters, a remote location, and an ominous atmosphere gave this story the perfect spooky factor. I enjoyed the complex relationships Lucy Clarke created between the four women and how their personal challenges affected their actions within the group. If you're on the hunt for a moody fall thriller that will keep you guessing, add this to your tbr now!

Maggie, Liz, Helena, and Joni have been friends since school. They all have very full lives with families, jobs, and it gets harder to get together as they once did. They've been doing a yearly vacation for many years where it's just the four of them. One person in the group picks where they will be going and what they will be doing. They person who picks their vacation changes each year so that it's fair to all four of them. This year it was Liz's turn to pick and instead of picking another beach resort she chose the Norwegian wilderness for a hike up a mountain. She told the others to start training for it as they would be hiking all day and camping at night. They would have to carry large backpacks with all of their gear as they hiked. The others weren't thrilled with the idea of a very physical trip, but accepted it as it was Liz's turn to pick.
Maggie, Liz, and Helena arrive the day before their hike begins. Joni, who is a rockstar, is on tour and can't make the trip this time. Helena hasn't had time to train and just got a huge surprise before leaving for the trip! Her hiking boots are still stiff and haven't been worn but once or twice around the house. Even though the four friends consider themselves close there are things they don't know about one another. What happens when some of these things come out? None of them are used to camping and hiking for days on end. What will happen along the way? Will the three women be able to survive such a grueling trip without turning back?
The family that owns the lodge gets them checked into their rooms. They decide to go grab some dinner before they try to turn in early for the next day's adventure. The three friends are eating, drinking, and enjoying the music when all of a sudden Joni shows up! She was able to get away after all and the four friends will be vacationing together after all. She told her agent that she needed a break as she was burnt out and to issue a refund to the fans of the cancelled concert. He wasn't happy with Joni, but she didn't give him a choice. She's got her backpack and hiking boots ready to go. Yay! When Joni shows up everyone is happier or at least 2 of them are. Helena has never forgiven Joni for not showing up for her at important times.
As the women celebrate longer now that Joni has arrived they drink too much and dance to the music. They even get Joni to get onstage with the band and sing a few songs. Everyone knows who Joni is and they're very excited when she starts singing one of her biggest hits. Joni doesn't realize it but someone is taking a video of her while she's performing. Will the video get out? She's supposed to be resting. Helena notices a man she had seen at the bar earlier and he's staring at her while she dances. Who is he and why is he staring? Helena works her way across the room to talk to him and he pulls her out of the crowded room. They're both breathing heavily and attracted to one another. Will they get together? Who is this man? Will Helena be ready for the hike in the morning?
As the four friends start off the next day with their map and gear they are excited for what lies ahead. The lodge owner doesn't like the trail they've chosen and thinks the mountain they chose to climb is too dangerous for them. The trails can be very narrow and there's weather heading in midweek. There's something about the way he said it and the look he gave them. What's up with him? Why is he trying to change their plans? Someone never came back from the same trails one year ago. Did he know the missing person? Should they be afraid?
Once on the trails things become easier. It's just the four friends and nature, right? Why does the hair stand up on the back of Maggie's neck like she's being watched? No one else is out here. Why do the friends see movement out of the corner of their eyes at times? Is it just wildlife or something more sinister? The Hike does a great job of making you feel on edge throughout. Things happen along their hike that will change the four friends forever. Will they become closer or will secrets come out that tear them apart? Will they be able to finish the hike up the mountain? Will they all make it back to the lodge? You'll have to read the book to find out! I rate The Hike 4 stars with a high recommendation. The suspense builds and gives the reader plenty of twists towards the end. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for an advanced copy of The Hike in exchange for a fair review.
