An amazing read! 4 best friends travel out to the mountains of Norway to hike one of the hardest and tallest mountains out there. Along the way, friends fight, blisters form, and an Erie sense of unease fills the friends. Will the man fishing turn out to be a danger? Or will all four friends return home to their families. A page turning thriller, one you wont be able to put down. I finished the thriller in just one day.

Nothing is more frustrating than being eager to get your hands on an advanced copy just to be let down.
This was a great poolside read, with a digestible plot I could binge read in one day. But the reason why I was able to fly through it so quickly is because I was so eager for *something* to happen for the first 65% of the book.
Slow burn thrillers work really well for me on one condition: if the characters are really well flushed out and I find myself rooting for them. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case. They lacked depth that I was craving and didn’t stand out enough for me to care for any of them.
Once the plot twists came, I couldn’t decide if they were too cliché for my liking or if it felt too much like a Lifetime movie plot twist.
Overall, the writing style itself was solid and the author did a phenomenal job building a vivid and atmospheric setting, but this one wasn’t my cup of tea.

I love a good survival story! This story follows four friends into the Norwegian wilderness on a hike that turns deadly. And as if the weather wasn’t bad enough, there is also a killer on the loose. Friends Helena, Liz, Joni, and Maggie must work together to overcome their own demons and secrets in an epic fight to stay alive.
Although I found the book a little slow at the start, it picked up nicely building suspense and was a solid 4 star read! Loved the initial character development and seeing how all of the ladies grew throughout the story.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of The Hike by Lucy Clarke, releasing Aug 29,2023, in exchange for my honest review.

I am very torn with this book. I really enjoyed the short chapters and writing style but I found the side characters very strange and difficult to keep track of throughout the story. I got it by the end but I almost gave up quite a few times. I would still read more from this author though.

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
This book was an incredible read! I have never really delved into the mystery and thrillers genre until recently and it isn't because I dislike it, I've just never been exposed to it. I could not put this book down. Every chance I got to read this book I would, and there were multiple times this week I would fall asleep trying to finish just one more chapter.
The cast of characters are all flawed and diving into their own personal issues on this trip, and being forced to deal with the eventual unraveling of how all their problems are connected. The side characters are interesting, leaving the hairs on the back of your neck standing with what their motives could be. The plot twists are well placed, the pacing of this book goes so well with the tensions rising as the characters climb the summit. The ending is bittersweet; the revelations to their problems being realistic in that they can't be solved overnight. Life issues take time to work out and mend. I truly enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend for those looking for an intro into the mysteries and thrillers genre such as myself.

Overall rating 3.5 stars! Going into reading this, you just know eery things are going to happen with this trope! I enjoyed the well written characters, these ladies were so different but each had something unique about them. The short chapters, written from the women’s POVs kept the book and plot moving and pushing the reader to want to read more. I enjoyed the extra POV which added a lot of suspense to the present timeline. The author writes the twists and cliffhangers well too. The ending felt weird to me? Rushed or underwhelming maybe? Not how I wanted to the story to end. This was the first book I read by this author and I’d definitely love to read her others!

Lucy Clarke has done it again, every book from Lucy is one that I cannot seem to put down. The characters are so well developed, I will always be rooting for Liz. The twists and turns are perfectly on point!

The Hike by Lucy Clarke follows four lifelong friends who take a trip to hike in the Norwegian mountains - but will they all make it back alive? Faced with unexpected dangers and a possible killer on the trail, Liz, Helena, Maggie, and Joni must figure out how to survive.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t a fan of this book. While it was a quick read, I didn’t connect with any of the characters and didn’t like the direction the book took toward the end. And there was a trope I particularly don’t like and it ruined the ending for me. The characters didn’t feel distinct enough and the chapters switching POVs every few pages made it even harder to keep track of whose perspective I was reading. Ultimately, it was a story where you have to suspend all disbelief as it takes some unrealistic turns. I am a fan of Lucy Clarke’s writing and other books and will continue to read from her but this one was a miss for me.

This was a fun weekend read. The atmosphere the friendship. Everything felt so real. I thought I had it predicted where this story was going but boy was I wrong. This was my first Lucy Clarke read but not my last. Can’t wait to read more

Well written novel about 4 female friends taking their annual vacation together with a major difference this year. The friend in charge of arranging this year’s trip chooses a challenging hike in Norway, but it turns out to be a whole lot more complicated than anyone expected. Be prepared for twists and turns and surprise intrigue along this hike.

I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
A group of friends set out on a hike in the mountains of Norway. Resentments surface; one woman doesn't make it home.
The characters and their lives are believable and easy to imagine.

Such a descriptive setting and I love a plot focused on female friendships! Definitely some twists I expected and some that surprised me. Some dialogue bothered me but was an easy read if you’re looking for a ‘who did it’ thriller.

This book was amazing. I had a hard time putting it down. The setting was so well described it felt like you were there, and the twists and turns kept me guessing as to what was going on through the whole story. I also loved (or loved to hate, in some cases) the characters. Four best friends, each with her own secret issues that she's hiding from the others, and everything comes out at some point on this journey. I wish the ending had kept with the twisty vibe of the book, but it was still a good ending.

Lucy Clarke does it again! Amazing book that left me hanging on the edge of my seat. Thought I had it all figured out to only be taken by surprise.

I really enjoyed this thriller about a group of friends who go on an epic hike in Norway. The story is told from multiple perspectives and had short chapters that kept me turning the page! There were a couple plot points that seemed a little far-fetched, but overall I would recommend this book to those who like a good thriller! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

This was my first Lucy Clarke book and while I love a good suspense novel, this one felt anticlimactic to me.
Spoilers ahead
This book explored the friendship of 4 women on a mountain climbing trip. We heard from all 4 perspectives, but since it was written in 3rd person it felt choppy and I had to keep flipping back to see who was telling the story. There also was a past/present aspect which added to some of the suspense, but was told from a 5th point of view. I really wanted to like the story, but there was just so much going on and for me the ending, including the “after” chapters fell flat. It was still an interesting read so I’d give it between 2.5 and 3 stars overall. Thank you to NetGalley and Putnam Books for the ARC of this book!

Def didn’t love this one. I read it quick because it was an easy read. There were some parts where I was like omg what?! But overall just meh.

I was more than pleasantly surprised by this book and its quick engaging story. Each chapter had me rushing to read the next page while maintaining a length that kept my focus throughout the book. I would suggest this book to anyone and everyone who is searching for a gripping read that has you on your toes. The one thing that had me confused the most towards the beginning of the book was the descriptions of each character which read almost like they were attracted to each other. Other than that this book is beautifully written and has a spot on my favorite books of the year.

I was interested in this book at the beginning, but it fell short for me. I hate even saying that because I know the author put her heart and soul into writing it. I must be honest in my review. I honestly didn’t care if everyone fell off a cliff by the time I got to the end. This just wasn’t for me.
I just reviewed The Hike by Lucy Clarke. #TheHike #NetGalley

SLOW BURN! This book was enjoyable, just feel like some parts could have been left out completely. Twisty end made it all over all enjoyable for sure!! The character development and plot execution was beautifully written!!
