This was a solid popcorn thriller for me, which can be fun when I need the escape. THE HIKE centers around a group of friends that venture out to hike the Norwegian mountains. I thought the pacing was good and I paired the book with the audiobook which I would also recommend.

I really enjoyed One of the Girls and was excited to get my hands on The Hike. I thought maybe my timing was off so decided to give the story another chance. I struggle to read books when I dislike all of the characters and that happened here. Not any of the women on the hike were likeable or relatable. The drama felt silly, the arguments, etc. Cliche, predictable… The woman without kids has to die? Like what…. Stop it! I hate that I disliked this so much. I’m hoping Clarke’s next book brings back the feels I got from One of the Girls!

This is a solid survivalist popcorn thriller. I just preferred her previous book much more. There are a lot of hiking/survival details that were a bit much for me personally but I'm also not very outdoorsy. Also I just didn’t care about anything that was happening. the chapters are titled each women’s POV, however they weren’t really written like that, which was confusing. Like it would be titled “JONI” but then half the chapter was about Liz. So weird.

The Hike centers on a group of friends undertaking the titular hike in the Norwegian wilderness. The synopsis made the book sound like a thriller, but it's very slow burning and focuses more on the journey and the four friends than the danger. This is fine, just something to know going into it. While it didn't deliver on the heart-pounding twists and turns I had hoped for, it was a decent read.

Love the premise of four friends taking annual trips and that this one turns disastrous, but it was a slow build – much like a slog up a Norwegian mountain (!) –  and it didn't really get going until about midway thru. Shifting perspectives between 5 POVs was fun and Lucy Clarke is a compelling writer, but I got a fatigued and felt like I wanted it to be more upfront with the stakes and thrills.

Average story. Everybody seems to have one of these type of tales nowadays.
Ms. Clarke however is fantastic at building her characters and the atmosphere.
Recommended. Wear some decent hiking boots though!

Not usually one to dabble into survivalist mode thrillers, but it was fun. It was well paced, I enjoyed the characters a lot, and thought this book was well written. This was a solid popcorn thriller, and I ate it up. Was it a little convoluted? Yes, but I still enjoyed it for what it is.

This book was really good! I loved that 4 women (Joni, Helena, Maggie & Liz) remained friends for so long. You read so many thriller books about new friendships/relationships that go wrong. It was so nice to read a book about something that happened to women who have been friends for a bit. Although, saying it is "nice" sounds really terrible. 🤣

The friends go on a girls' vacation every year and normally they go to a beachy vacation but this year it is decided that they are going on a Hike. You know some stuff is going to go down, and it sure did!!

There were 3 couples, so I wrote a quick post it to myself to remember who was married to who and who had kids. The cover is pretty neat as well! Maybe I can do a match my spine challenge with this one!

Anyway, the pacing was fast. There were twists. There were turns. I didn't see the end coming, which a thriller is pretty important in my opinion.  

 

This made me laugh:

Maggie reached through the darkness for Helena's arm. "That's my boob."  "Oh". 

 

This was probably my favorite part. All bodies are celebrated and beautiful!!! The four friends are going to go swimming without their clothes on….

Helena yelled, “We need you, Mags!”

She froze for a moment, uncertain. Then, with a shrug, she peeled off her remaining clothes and tiptoed, squealing into the water, her gorgeously curvy body jiggling, auburn hair trailing behind her.

I wanted to like this book more than I did. It started out a bit slow for me. I felt like the women in this book got a lot of backstory and they were distinct. I didn’t feel the same way about the men. They actually ran together for me, honestly.

The action in this story was pretty good. I liked the writing style as well. The end felt a bit rushed and predictable to me.

I will probably try another book by this author and recommend it to a handful of friends.

THIS BOOK!!! I loved this book and I think everyone needs to read it because it is such a page-turner and will keep you on your toes,

I really enjoyed this books because it was easy to get into but I also found that there was too much going on at the same time.

This is a well paced thriller of a group of friends coming together for a hiking trip. As some of the friends are more prepared than others, they all have reasons for wanting to escape their daily lives and go on a girls trip. However, they quickly realize that the hiking location is much more difficult than they had expected and with a storm rolling in they are forced to find shelter. As the group stumbles upon things they were never meant to see things go from difficult to downright dangerous.
This was a story filled with friendship, adventure, and secrets. While there weren't many big "ah-ha" moments, the twist and turns of long held female friendships truly shine in this book. It was a quick read that leaned heavily on the power of true friendship bonds.

4 ⭐️! A twisty read with plenty of suspense. Beautiful setting coupled with mysterious elements made this a page turning read. Lucy Clarke continues to delight with her newest launch - “the hike”. Highly reccomend if you’re a LC or thriller fan!

I was so excited to read this one - four old friends on a new adventure in the middle of nowhere in Norway. What's not to love? Unfortunately, this one didn't quite hit the mark. I'm usually a big fan of Lucy Clarke, but this one fell a little flat. I didn't really connect with the characters and didn't really have anyone to root for. However, I did love the setting and the dual perspectives and the plot kept me guessing. Overall, I would definitely recommend this one.

This book was really fun and twisty. Perfectly atmospheric and suspenseful, this book had me hooked pretty quickly. It felt a bit predictable towards the end, but still a fun read. ⭐⭐⭐

Four friends find themselves fighting against the elements and their own wits up on a secluded mountain. Throughout the story I found myself rooting for each of them and cherishing the lifelong friendship they have. I couldn't wait to get to the end to discover the twist.

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars. I got this ARC from Netgalley and it took me a little while to sit down and actually read it but I’m glad I did! A good thriller with drama and suspense that really ramps up towards the end.

Loved this book, kept me interested from the beginning! Loved the turns it takes, especially when you think that you have it figured out. A great read I definitely wasn’t disappointed at all!

THE HIKE is an easy, bingeable thriller. I enjoyed the multiple POVs and and thought the setting was great. It wrapped up a little too neat for my taste but would still recommend.
