Four women who have been friends since they were teens meet up for their annual reconnect trip-this time with the ambitious goal of climbing Blafjell Mountain in Norway. Each woman brings their own baggage-a mother with separation issues, another woman with marital problems, the rockstar with addiction issues so-very different women who are still joined by the bonds of friendship from years ago. Deciding to go on a difficult and dangerous hike when none of them have hiked before? Does not seem like the smartest decision. That right there was my biggest hang up with this book. The story is told through 5 viewpoints (all of the women plus one more). The character building is really well done and you feel like you get to know each of these women and the challenges in their lives. They all seem to be reasonably intelligent people. So why is it they all make such stupid decisions? Do we decide to still go on the hike even though a body was found on the same hike previously? Yes they do! Do they listen to the advice of the locals who live in the area about the dangers and listen to them about whether they should continue? No they do not! The friendship was great. The book was slow moving for quite a long time. I liked this one but it hedged a bit on the side of too much interpersonal drama at the expense of the suspense element. So-yes read it because it is a solid read. I enjoyed the writing style but this one is not going to be a memorable one for me.

This was an entertaining and fast-paced book! Four friends go on vacation to Norway, to hike a mountain. They are very different and do not seem like they would be such great friends, but are they as close as they seem? They are all relatable in some way or another, and they all have aspects that you will not like at all. Some of the twists are obvious, and some were not as obvious. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this thriller. I look forward to reading more from Lucy Clarke.

It was a slow start at first but turned into a page turner pretty quickly. 4 friends go on a hike in Norway, and a girl goes missing that looks exactly like one of them! Guess you will have to buy it to find out what happens next.

Sadly this did not grip me the way I hoped. It was good for a vacation read. I’ll definitely pick up another book by Clarke as I have enjoyed most of her work!

Read this book if you like: Multiple pov, friendship, slow burns

I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. It was very slow. Not a ton of thrill to me. It just didn't grab me like I wanted it to. There is so much talking. Needed more action. You may have an entirely different experience.

Loved loved loved this book. Ironically, my friends were in Norway as I was reading this, which really upped the anxiety of this thriller. The pacing was great, the twists weren’t overly predictable and I finished the book satisfied. Plus, the writing and scenery makes me want to visit Norway! I just won’t hike.

i was hoping for a woodsy thriller but it was more like, domestic drama that takes place in the woods which they sometimes remember to mention lol

The Hike is an engrossing atmospheric story of female friendship and adventure. This was my first experience with Lucy Clarke's writing, but it won't be my last.

This was such a great, suspenseful thriller! I couldn't put this book down and I would love to read more by this author. You'll never guess the twist at the end!

Recently finished "The Hike," and it's a gripping journey from start to finish. The author masterfully builds suspense, keeping you hooked with every twist and turn. The characters are relatable, and the exploration of the wilderness adds a whole new dimension. A solid pick for anyone who loves a thrilling adventure!

I really liked this book, it was different than anything else I've read which was a breath of fresh air. I will be recommending this to my friends, and auto buy this author!

This was an ok thriller but I wasn't on the edge on my seat, I'm not sure I would say it was a thriller even. Lucy Clarke is a great writer because I wanted to keep going but the story didn't really capture me, unfortunately. Maybe this is what people call popcorn thriller? Easy to read and digest but rather forgettable.

Thrilling adventure awaits in this suspenseful read about a Norwegian trek 🥾 gone wrong.

The narrative weaves the lives of 4 best friends facing personal dilemmas during their annual girls trip. The alternating POVs provide insights into their minds, enriching the story. Adrenaline surges with landslides, getting lost, a mysterious body 😯 , & a missing woman, sustaining the suspense throughout. The action was nonstop!

While the conclusion may be a bit too tidy, the relentless action & character dynamics make it an enjoyable journey. I thought it was well-paced & kept my attention!

Sometimes I read books with unlikable characters and I find myself cheering them on despite their awfulness. Not the case here. I hated all four main characters, and it only took a few chapters for me to start hoping they'd all die in an avalanche. So much hatred and bickering! Why anyone would want to spend time with these energy vampires is beyond me.

It's revealed right away that two of the four make it back from the hike, but not which two, and then what happened on the hike is revealed.

The last chapters in the book get more interesting, but they also get more absurd and harder to believe. I mean, would you tell your spouse about something you did that could get you sent to prison for life? Not to mention your spouse would probably think you're a psychopath!

The ending did surprise me, but I was still disappointed. I wanted that avalanche.

This is my first book by Clarke. Thrillers aren't my main genre but I do typically enjoy them. I wanted to like this book more than I did. It was slow to get into and had trouble suspending belief for the sake of plot points at the end of the book. I do think I enjoyed her writing style so I'm interested in trying one of her other titles in the future.

The book was okay. Personally, it felt a little long and boring until about the last 6 chapters and then it picked up but by then I just wanted the story to be over.

A survivalist thriller told through two timelines that’ll keep you guessing until the end.
Four friends reunite for their annual adventure together — this time, embarking on a hike through the Norwegian wilderness. Maggie, Liz, Helena, & Joni have been a tight knit group for years, but even with that longstanding friendship, secrets remain between them that will start to come to the surface. When a woman’s body is found at the bottom of a ravine, it’s clear there’s a killer out there and it’s not only a race to safety for the characters but also a quest for the reader to figure out who it is, and what exactly happened to them.
I thought this was a solid suspense and thriller novel but found it hard to follow at times early on until things quickly picked up. Once it hit the last third or so, the story definitely got much more interesting.

If you like Lucy Clarke, you'll love this. Unlikeable characters, female friendships, and danger in nature. I really enjoyed this story.
