Four friends trade margaritas on the beach for hiking boots in the mountains for their annual getaway. They have no idea what is in store for them out on the trail....
I love hiking and the great outdoors and this book was right up my alley. Plenty of twists and turns coupled with a super-fast pace. I was hooked and definitely recommend!

I was really excited for this one, given I love hiking and the premise was about girlfriends who go on a hiking trip together. So I wasn’t disappointed when it was a survivalist middle-of-nowhere killer thriller! Loved the strongly written female characters and the action in this book was a welcome surprise compared to my usual domestic thriller choices lately (thank goodness). However, I felt like it took so long to setup the story. But once you get through the first 25% or so, I would say it’s pretty hard to put down! And the twists are really good, not super predictable either, which is great! Loved this one.

Lucy Clark is a fantastic author and her thrillers are great! It was atmospheric and fairly fast paced with a few kills. A good read however.

This is the first book I have read by Lucy Clarke and I really enjoyed the writing. I enjoy the short chapters and different perspectives and the friendship between characters felt very real & relatable.

Thank you Net Galley for providing me a copy of The Hike. This one was a pretty good thriller but I am not a huge fan of tons of POVs in a story so that was one negative thing for me to give it a lesser rating. Its your basic thriller that starts off a bit slow but does start to pick up eventually. Also its a book where you are sure you know what is going to happen in the end.

This book starts out gradually, but then picks up and has lots of twists! I loved loved loved the setting! I liked the changing dynamics amongst the friend group as well. A gripping thriller! Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

This book had me feeling ALL of the emotions! Loved how the story had mystery, thriller, friendship, and life lessons all tied into one. Was blown away by the twists and turns the story took, and had me anxious to find out what would happen next the whole way through. Definitely recommend!

I love a good book where we have friends, secrets and a great sense of place.

Things are looking up for these close friends as the venture into the wilds of Norway and an epic HIKE. The first quarter of the book does a decent job laying out the history of each of the women. Then things pick up things go awry with the finding of a dead body. Then things get intense.

This is a good survivalist popcorn thriller! The ending was a bit over the top for me, but thats often what makes it popcorny.

Thank you to NetGalley and G.P. Putnam's Sons for the complimentary e-copy of this book.

Four women, friends since childhood, meet up annually despite the fact that their lives have taken different roads. This year is Liz's turn to choose the destination. Instead of the usual beach lounging, Liz decides on a challenging hike in Norway. This is a really well written story - not just an adrenaline pumping, hair-standing-on-end mystery, but also a story about friendship. There are secrets and grudges and dashed expectations, as well as darkness and tragedy. Will they all survive this mountain trek, and if so, will their friendships remain intact? A big thanks to Netgalley and Penguin Group Putnam for the opportunity to read this!

Four friends go on their trip together, this time it was to hike and climb a mountain. Liz set up the itinerary and the other women were truly not prepared physically for hiking. A thriller that keeps you guessing and a quick read. Like Lucy Clarke as an author as her stories keep you drawn to the book! Twists that I did not see coming. Definitely recommend!

This was a great thriller with a multiple POV storyline. I enjoyed the characters and their backstory. I felt like I understood who they were and what they struggled with. The plot was well built and kept me guessing.

pretty decent destination thriller - loved the atmosphere and setting. i wish we got more of the actual hike, and the book spends a lot of time on setup and the mystery was a bit predictable but i had a fun time.

Unfortunately, this book was a miss for me. There is nothing wrong with it, it just did not capture my attention, at all. It could have been the characters, but im not sure. I may pick it up again at another time, to give it another shot. Because i do like the idea of the story and plot.

The Hike was definitely such a fun read to get into, while also having some moments that made me wanting more. This book had such a great mixture of high stakes thrills and adventures, while also being about friendships and showing the trials and tribulations of four best friends as they set off on a deadly hiking trip.

First of all, I thought the story kind of started off really slow for me at the beginning, and I felt like I was just waiting for the story to pick up and start getting into the main plot which is something that I don’t like about mystery/thriller books. Plus I thought there was a few unnecessary filler scenes within the first 70 pages or so that, in my opinion, just didn’t add anything to the story, and for me I just had a hard time connecting with the story at first.

HOWEVER, about halfway through the book, when the plot really started to pick up and a lot of the main focus of the storyline started to come into play, I could not put this book down at all. A lot of crazy secrets and surprises between the four best friends start to become revealed, with an intense plot twist towards the end of the book, that just hooked me in for the end. These scenes genuinely will keep you on the edge of your seat ready to find out what happens next and I couldn’t get enough.

Overall, I thought this was such an amazing atmospheric book with a beautiful setting that you could just imagine yourself being in, and unfortunately if it wasn’t for the slow beginning of this book, I would have rated this book a little higher, but I did really enjoy this book and thought it was a lot of fun!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Putnam for this advance copy of The Hike in exchange for my honest review. This one is out now for purchase!

I’m landing on 3.5 stars rounding down - this book had a decent pace, and definitely moved quickly, and we follow 4 friends that reunite for a hike up the mountains of Norway. We’ve got Liz, the organizer of this years’ trip, Helena the edgy “cool” friend hiding a pregnancy, Maggie the newly divorced awkward friend and Joni the rock star. Everyone knows how much I love a messy dramatic character, but these ones were a little too cliche for me, and the “twists” scattered throughout the book were a bit too random to me. There were also random Norwegian characters showing up that really didn’t add anything until the last 25% and then ended up having a much bigger role out of nowhere.

Thank you again to the publishers and NetGalley for this ARC - The Hike came out at the end of August (2023) and is now available!

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to review this book for na honest review.

This book is about a group of women you like the outdoors and decide to go on a four-day hiking adventure. Everyone they run into on the way tells them to turn back because a storm is coming but they decide to continue on. This book was just ok, it was boring at times. I am not much of a camper but I know now I have less likely to go camping.

Lucy Clarke is one of my go-to authors, and her recent The Hike was phenomenal. I love any book that take place outside, but Clarke took it to the next level. Four friends choose a weekend hiking trip for their annual vacation together, but everything quickly starts to go wrong as secrets are revealed both on the mountain and within their friendship. A classic "who can you trust" thriller, this is a book that I could not put down until the shocking end.

Fast friends since secondary school, Liz, Helena, Maggie and Joni take a holiday together each year and this time it’s Liz’s turn to choose the destination. Tired of the trips centered around a pool, Liz has chosen a hike in the mountains of Norway. Never knowing if Joni is going to join them or not they set off for Norway hoping to find her already waiting for them. When Joni arrives, they are delighted, to have the rockstar in their midst, but will she be able to outrun the demons that haunt her? Liz is determined to make this four day hike, a hike that is dangerous and the others are ill prepared for. Even when warned about weather conditions, Liz forages on, but there are secrets on the mountain, things that someone wants to keep secret. Secrets that are worth killing for. Are the woman safe on the mountain or are their eerie feelings along the way real? Each woman her her own secrets as well and when these secrets are revealed, hearts are broken, hearts that desperately need to be healed. Will anyone come off the mountain unscathed and is there anyone they can trust, including each other? This fast paced thriller will have you up way past your bedtime as you join this group of fast friends on an adventure none of them had bargained for! Thank you to Penguin and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
