I recently read The Unforgettable Alexandra Shaw, and while the premise was intriguing I found the execution lacking. The author seemed to rush into building mystery without taking enough time to develop the characters and their stories. It was difficult for me to fully invest in the plot. The clues felt too obvious - beginning with Alexandra noticing odd reactions/behaviors from her mother. Additionally, the motivation for the antagonist felt underdeveloped and left me with more questions than answers. Why try to reframe the fault of an accident to Alexandra? They supposedly moved to a new town but somehow they are near enough to people and places in her previous life - so close she happens to stumble into more than one of them.
Overall, I was disappointed with the weak character and story development. The author had an interesting idea, but failed to execute it in a way that felt satisfying. I wouldn't recommend this book to others unless they are willing to overlook these flaws."
I was hooked from the first chapter. I love snarky female main characters and the mystery of what the heck is happening at the Academy was great. I’m wondering how book two is going to work out and looking forward to reading that as well!
First I just want to say that the cover of this book is stunning. On a page packed with options it stood out above the rest and caught my eye.
Unfortunately I didn't feel the same way about the story. I struggled to connect with the story or characters which made it hard for me to read.
It wasn't badly written, just not for me.
Interesting storyline, a little predictable at times but I enjoyed how it ended and Ann curious where the next book will pick up. Definitely some spelling and grammar issues and writing with acronyms which I didn’t love but overall it was pretty good. Quick and easy read, finished in it about 3 hours.
First off, that cover! 😍 Genuinely stunning.
I was intrigued right from beginning. The writing, though sometimes a little stilted, was easy to read and fast-paced. I was never bored, and I was invested enough to finish.
My biggest complaint was that I was confused by some of the logistics. I don't want to give too much away here, but it was unclear how much Alexandra and other characters remembered at various points in the novel, and details seemed to conflict.
A couple of the characters were satisfyingly complex, but I didn't feel like I knew enough about others, including the love interest, to care about them. Sometimes the characters spoke in stereotypically teen ways without sounding like real teens; this wasn't consistent but would happen randomly, pulling me out of the story.
Overall, this book was fun and quick, though I don't know that I'm invested enough to read the sequel.
Thanks to Netgalley for providing a copy for review!
Alexandra is a young girl, who is struggling with the guilt from killing her father. There’s a lot to unpack with The Unforgettable Alexandra Shaw, so many twists, and so many turns. I usually can guess an ending at the very beginning of a book, but I was pleasantly surprised that my intuition was wrong. The story was beautifully written (even though I had to go back and reread a few sentences because I was reading so fast I missed a few words). I simply just couldn’t put the story down. I cannot wait for the next book to come out in the fall. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC.
let start off that this is one of the most beautiful covers I have ever seen!! that really did help to choose this one to read. what I loved about this book that trauma has a big plot in it, and a lot of people can relate in some way like I did. after that the synopsis sounds so good. Alexandra is in a new private school where her moms works, she has killed her father and she is struggling with that. since that the relationship between her and her mom isn't great. Alexandra can't wait to graduate and to be free. but there is more to the story. Alexandra get some strange memories of thing that happen but she don't remember it then logon shows up and he knows her. but he is claiming that not only her father died but she was too. they both are trying to discover the truth. also the writing is good for a debut. but I had a hard time to get into the story, to understand it. a lot of the times I was what did just happen and put me back pages earlier to reread to understand it. I feel like this was just not my cup of Thea but that a lot of others would enjoy this.
