This was an interesting premise but I felt like it felt flat on the delivery. I liked the narrator and the book wasn’t necessarily bad, it just felt like I’ve read it many times before.

Really good, fast paced thriller. I didn’t see the twists and turns coming and those were great. There was a few things going on at once but they worked together so well that it didn’t leave you confused.

While overall i really enjoyed the book and thought the plot twist at the end was great and entertaining, this book wasn't anything particularly new or different. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a solid mystery thriller but at the same time i wouldn't say it is one of my favorites. The main character was relatable and fun to follow. The whole book flowed well and was very easy to read and not get bored.

Audiobook Review:
Narrated by: Stephanie Cannon
Length of audio: 7h 42m

What I Loved:
This book definitely gave me Gone Girl vibes, and I immediately felt familiar with the story. I can easily say it hooked me from the start. I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook because the narrator did a fantastic job all around, from each character's emotion and plot twists to overall pronunciation and pace. I've listened to audiobooks before, and these details can quickly get lost if the narrator isn't a good fit.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! The numerous twists and turns really had me going throughout, and the ending is even more of a surprise. I wasn't a big fan of Emma, and found myself getting annoyed when she would come into the story. Sometimes you have those characters that you're not all that fond of, though. I do think the storyline could have been way more built out if we were able to get to know Patrick more before he disappeared OR had tidbits of his POV scattered throughout the book.

What Wasn't My Favorite:
At times, it did feel like the plot kept growing, and new obstacles kept being introduced even if some had yet to be resolved. While it was great to see the storyline evolve and take off, I found this to be a little overwhelming at times as it made the main plot difficult to follow.

6/10 This one just didn’t do it for me. It felt outlandish, scattered, and predictable. Had a good premise, but it felt like it lacked the organization of a well-thought of thriller. Didn’t find the characters lovable, so I felt distant from the story.

The Marriage Counselor is a psychological thriller with characters that jump from one problem to the next. When Adele's husband goes missing she unravels secrets about him she never suspected. She is thrown into a tangled web of lies, murder and secrets that have immediate implications for her both privately and professionally.

Overall this was an okay read for me but I did find the characters unlikeable and the story was a little far fetched.

Twistier than a Red Vine and a lot crazier. I'm familiar with Poirier's works, having read a few of them before, so I braced for some shocking twists along the way, but even that can't prepare you for the last sentence! If you're looking for deep character analysis, you won't really get that in The Marriage Counselor. What you will get, however, is a thriller that leans towards almost comical with the rate at which anyone can be murdered. No one is safe and the ferocity at which the main character can seemingly continue on as people in her life as systematically bumped off is rather hilarious. Overall, a fun thriller!

Narrated by Stephanie Cannon ⭐⭐⭐
Stephanie Cannon's voice ok but after a while it becomes sickly sweet.

Story by Dea Poirier ⭐⭐

Every time Emma came into the story I wanted to stop this book. She was so unrealistic. No assistant in that profession would behave that way. Her character really destroyed this book

As for the rest of the story it was so so. Even though there was a lot of death it wasn't particularly interesting death.

This could have been so good... but, sadly, it wasn't.

The story tries to hard - too much is going on and not a lot of it is followed through. There are so many plot holes, and so many unrealistic things happening that the book felt like I was reading a story one of my high school students wrote.

I loved this book! The twists and turns that it took were really fun. Adele, though not always a lovable character was a really interesting and fun one. I enjoyed seeing the world through her eyes. In fact, even the blurb is from her POV.

When Adele's husband goes missing she finds out that she never really knew him at all. As we go through Adele's search to discover what happened to her husband or where he is secrets get uncovered and lives get destroyed. Stephanie Cannon is an absolutely amazing narrator whom I was very impressed by. I can't wait to listen to more books narrated by her and I can't wait to read more by Dee Poirier.

It was a good story with a bad plot and even worse writing.

It felt like they were trying to write a knockoff of gone girl, and did a terrible job.

I was confused in a ‘badly written way’ and not in a ‘wow this a complex story way’

I don’t know why they chose to tell the story from Adele’s point of view, before the plot twist you were just vaguely confused about everything with major plot holes, and then after the plot twist is just simply didn’t make sense.

The story was literally spoiled with the front cover blurb. I don’t know why they put that on there, it undermines the entire first half of the book.

I do not recommend this book.

Marriage counselor, Adele Sutton Johanson finds a cop on her doorstep revealing that her husband, Patrick Johanson is missing. Since his disappearance, many things have come to light. His coworkers didn’t know he was married, their house is in foreclosure, and he filed for divorce. Patrick has been living a double life but what he doesn’t know is that Adele has some secrets of her own.

The book was a quick easy read. It kept me entertained and guessing. I felt some of it was easy to catch on to. The last couple chapters had some surprises I didn’t see coming though. The writing was well done. The narration was great. The narrator was clear and concise with her words, making it easy to differentiate characters. Recommend if you need a quick easy thriller with a few mind games.

This was good. It was gripping and kept you interested the entire time. You would be lead in one direction then all of a sudden you’d be doubting where you were led.
Adele is a marriage counselor who has a great marriage, or so she thinks. One day the police inform her that her husband is missing. She goes through disbelief and the emotions you’d expect right up until she learns that no one at his work even knew he was married. Then she finds some baby clothes among her husband's belongings.
It looks like he’s been living one heck of a double life. Adele is at a loss as her job is to look at two people and be able to separate the truth from lies in order to correctly counsel her clients. You soon learn that maybe her husband wasn’t the only one keeping secrets.
I can’t really tell you too much more about this one because very quickly I would be walking into spoiler territory.
This is a good domestic thriller and worth your time to check out. Also, if you are a fan of audiobooks, this is a very good one. I received a copy of the audio from NetGalley and the narrator is fantastic!

Adele's husband, Patrick, had randomly disappeared one day. While scrambling to find his whereabouts, Adele discovered he has been lying to her for years! He was secretly living a double life and she didn't have a clue. Did he disappear and run off with his mistress? Or was it foul play?

Intriguing concept and idea. I love all the twists, but the story wasn't convincing enough. It lacked depth and clarity.

Overall, a decent read.

Thank you #NetGalley and #BookoutureAudio for reading/reviewing #TheMarriageCounselor by #DeaPoirier. The book left me speechless and shocked. I literally had to sit and process it all. The twists wer amazing and the ending blew me away. I highly recommend this book!!!!

The Marriage Counselor by Dea Poirier was frenetic and confusing. Some parts were alright but none of the characters were good people. There was no reasons given for the things that were happening. I feel like this book started in the middle. I needed more background for the people. The MC flipped flopped about how she felt throughout the book. Also, the psychological aspect was non existent because the whole book was superficial.
Stephanie Cannon narrated the audiobook and I believe she did a great job. This was my first book by Stephanie and I would listen to any of the books she reads.

This was an enjoyable listen , seemed a bit dragged out in parts but a decent thriller with a good ending. Would listen to another book by this author but wasn't excellent but wasn't bad either. Thanks to netgalley and bookouture Audio for sending me this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Do I like this book? No. But do I hate it? Also, no.

It's one of those books that are just okay. The plot and story capture my attention enough for me to finish the book. But there are too many names, too many individuals that I don't really care about. There are also plotlines that are introduced but there are no closures.

Also, I think the ending is a bit rush compared to the beginning of the story. I was left unsatisfied with how the author wraps everything up.

But the audiobook is great! I love the narrator's voice. Will definitely keep an eye on other titles by the narrator.

DNF @ 55% I’m not sure exactly what it was about this story but I completely lost interest midway through. I couldn’t tell you a single characters name. I just did not care about any of the characters..

I could not put this down! Following Adele, a marriage therapist with famous parents, this story exposes what happens after her husband goes missing, and his trail of lies and deceit is exposed.

I LOVED that we learn so much from flippant one-off comments as the story develops. I LOVED that I did not see the end coming until I was almost at the end. I LOVED that the twists kept hitting until the actual last page! (And the audio narrator? Absolutely worth listening; she was phenomenal.)

Thanks to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for a review copy!
