Six friends who haven't been in touch since they roomed together at college head out to sea for a bachelor party. As time progresses, we learn that something happened in the house they lived in during college. There are reasons why they haven't kept in touch until now.

Told in two timelines of back in college and now on the yacht. I enjoyed the dual timelines and couldn't wait to find out just what happened way back when.

When they wake on the yacht the next morning they discover the crew is missing and the anchor has been disconnected. They are adrift at sea with no communication to the outside world.

Some scenes were a bit gory but not told in lots of detail. The characters all seem to have one problem or another which made them unlikable for the most part. There wasn't a lot of detail about the backgrounds of some of them.

Just when you think you know who the bad guy is, you are proven wrong.

A bachelor party on a yacht goes horribly wrong when the boat goes adrift and they start dying one by one. Pete is reluctant to go on the bachelor party for his future brother-in-law. Yes, he used to live with all the people going, but after a traumatic incident, they eventually drifted apart some. However, things become drastically worse when they wake up one morning to find the boat adrift and no sign of the captain or mate. Soon, people start dying in suspicious ways.

This thriller was really enjoyable! I thought there could've been a little more twist at the very end to really hit home, but overall, the suspense and intrigue were there!

Six friends set sail for a stag do. But the friends awake one morning to find they are adrift at sea. The story has a dual timeline - the present day and the past, when they were still at university. We get the secrets that have been kept buried in the past to new secrets in the present day. With strong characters and a plotline full of twists, I could not put this book down. The pace is fast, and I was pulled into this story after reading a few pages. This is one of those books where you promise yourself just one more chapter, but one more chapter is never enough.

What a rather impressive story. I literally didn't see that ending coming, nor did I predict any of the twists.

It's a fairly claustrophobic thriller with the action mainly set on a yacht, but we also have flashbacks to how the friends met and just what binds them all together. Some of the past action was tricky to read due to its content.

I was completely hooked on the action in this story, I had slight reservations during the first couple of chapters, but then it all clicked and it was a rather addictive read from then on. To the extent I was reading for far longer than I should have done in bed, as I had to know what was going on.

At times I think I suspected everyone, there are motives all over the place and I even invented a possible motive for one person that I'm still half surprised wasn't there at all.

What I do know is this is one luxury yacht trip that I'm incredibly glad I wasn't on.

I loved the writing and storytelling and am so pleased I gave this book a go. I'm excited to see what the author will write next.

'Adrift' is SO good, utterly 'unputdownable'! I'd clarify this as being somewhere between a psychological thriller and a whodunnit, it also has elements of cat and mouse type pursuing, so something for everyone! To say it is suspenseful is a gross understatement.

The story is told from the perspective of Pete, a man on a stag doo on a boat. The fellow stags are a group he shared a student flat with 10 years previously. There are 2 timelines - the present and 10 years earlier. We learn that something happened 10 years previously, but as for the specific motive to why someone is killing off the stags, we are in the dark until the 'reveal' at the end of the book. This is a very clever book, well planned and executed to perfection - it just has to be read.

A great page-turning thriller filled with twists and turns. I loved how fast paced this was with dual timelines and lots of twists that kept me hooked. The ending reveal had me shocked, I didn't see a lot of it coming. The characters were slightly annoying and I didn't feel myself really rooting for anyone but at the same time this kept me guessing to who was the culprit and left me shocked at all the twists.

I was really excited for this book as the stunning cover and the description instantly grabbed my attention and I'm a huge fan of a well developed thriller. Sadly this fell slightly flat for me,

I wasn't a huge fan of the writing style (the first person voice felt very basic and bland with far too many 'cliche' comments). There wasn't enough tension built up with overt sentences right from the start such as 'Nobody has mentioned that night, but it's all I can think about' and 'A warning that danger is lurking.' It wasn't eerie or dramatic, it was just abit too much. It wasn't for me unfortunately.

I didn't connect with any of the characters but liked the fast moving pace of the book.

Wow! What a page turner… this was an excellent read that couldn’t put it down, The suspense throughout keeps you on the edge of your seat. The characters were great, the story itself and the setting were extremely enjoyable and the style of writing was just perfect.
I just loved everything about this book and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys this genre.
This is the first book that I have read by this author, I’ll be keeping my eye out in the future for more.

A stag on a Yacht? Count me in! "Adrift" by M A Hunter is a nail-biting psychological thriller that you won't be able to put down.

The book follows six college friends who drifted apart after the university and now, ten years later, reunite for a stag party on a private Yacht. They were all roommates in their old university days until a shared secret tore them apart.

Meet: Pete, the narrator and all-around good guy; his best friend, Harry, and the only one he kept in touch with since those days; Sophie, a mother hen; Fergus, a hot-temper guy who is engaged to Pete's sister; and the two friends, Christophe and Rhys.

The guys are having a good time, while the bride-to-be and her friends celebrate their own hen party. Tensions are seething under the surface, but the freely flowing alcohol smooths high spirits. Pretty soon the dream vacation turns into a living nightmare when the captain and the yacht's hostess go missing, they lose net connection, and they find themselves adrift at sea with no way to call for help. Someone is willing to go to great lengths to keep their secret and the past buried.

I enjoyed the story very much, although it had a couple of minor flaws. The secret was pretty predictable, though the motives were original. I have read a few books recently with the same so-called secret, so it is me rather than the book. Sophie's behavior was a bit unbelievable at times and requires a suspension of belief. Plenty the times I wanted to shake some sense into her. In addition, the ending was rather abrupt. An epilogue would have been nice.

That being said, it didn't bother me or hurt my enjoyment of the book. The author does a good job of keeping the reader interested. I didn't guess who the villain was, so the twists caught me off-guard. The story is fast-paced, action-packed, and gripping. Therefore, I rate the book 5/5 stars. I found the novel addictive and just had to keep turning the pages to see what happens next. Definitely recommended!

A quick and fun read. The premise of the catch up between old uni friends and something sinister being revealed etc is ridiculously common atm but I'd say this is quite a good take on the story.

I liked the dual timelines and that the plot keeps moving forward. The ending felt a bit abrupt but I'd prefer that to it being dragged out. The characters are well written, if not the most likeable. But then again, some people just aren't likeable lol

A prefect one for summer

I quite enjoyed this but unfortunately I thought the end was a bit abrupt and spoilt the book! I like dual timeline books and this was done very well, some of the characters weren’t great but on the whole I thought the storyline was good and engaging. But another chapter would’ve been better to stretch the finale out x

I did not like this book. I was not a fan of the dual timelines. I did not really connect with the over all story and I did not think it was a god thriller.

This is a really well written book. I enjoyed the dual narrative. I liked the twist and turns. There was plenty of drama to keep you engaged throughout.

This book alternates between the past (when the gang was at university) and the present, told entirely from one character's perspective. It was really intense and full of twists and turns. Each chapter left me wanting more. I docked a star as I did find some of the characters a bit annoying.

I soooo appreciate Boldwood Books and NetGalley for an early copy of Adrift. OMGosh what a plot, what a book, this was such a great read. The cover was Gorgeous and reeled me right in. :) It was a fast reading novel and I couldn’t wait to find out the culprit. My head was spinning until the last page. Hang on while reading, it’s a rollercoaster of a ride, thank you again.

I finished this book in less than 24 hours while on vacation, thank goodness because I couldn’t do much but keep reading. Sooooooo many twists and turns, I had no idea how the ending was going to happen. I still can’t wrap my head around what I just read, I can visualize it all. I’m glad the author didn't stop chasing his dreams, KEEP WRITING!!!!!

This is a fun story that would be a perfect beach read, but maybe not so good if you're on a boat. Pete has been invited to his old friend and soon-to-be brother-in-law, Fergus's bachelor party on a hired yacht. All of his old roommates from college were invited, even Sophie, who was the lone female among several guys. They shared a large house with low rent and plenty of drama. The characters all have their different quirks, but they're not the usual cliched stereotypes, which is refreshing.

Pete's an all-around nice guy narrator, Fergus is a big guy with a temper, Sophie is the house mother that tries to keep everyone in good spirits, Harry is Pete's best friend and the only one he's really kept in touch with, and Christophe and Rhys are close friends who aren't as much a part of the action but come with plenty baggage of their own. Their landlord is a creepy lacrosse coach who has seedy reasons for charging so little rent, and who becomes entangled in their lives way more than anyone expected.

The story is told in alternating views from the past and present, and there's plenty of action in both. They settle back into their familiar places within their group, with alliances causing mistrust, some passive aggressiveness, and plenty of downright hostility. It's alluded to early on that a tragic event occurred involving all of the roommates. And although they vowed never to talk about it again, it appears that someone is set on wreaking havoc now as the party goes from fun to frightening.

It's a fast-paced read, more so in the present timeframe and it's fun trying to figure out what's going on and how. They are on the ocean, after all, so it's not like people can come and go and there's nowhere to hide where they can't be found. My only issue is that the story wraps up too quickly. It skims over the implausibility of explaining to authorities what happened without immediate suspicion and arrests. Because let's just say this party yacht does not return the same as when they embarked. And after reading this story you may be more inclined to stay ashore than to take your chances on the sea!

An excellent fast paced thriller read set in two timelines which held my interest all the way from the beginning until the ending.

Good well described characters, a bit gory in parts but a thoroughly good read which I can certainly recommend.
