This is an extremely emotional read … something the author does well. You will need to grab a box (or two!) of tissues because the tears will flow. There are some sensitive topics addresses, including loss and mental illness. But the love and kindness displayed are touching. The characters are well developed and the storyline will pull you in.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookoutre for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Brilliant audiobook!
I enjoyed this from start to finish. There was plenty of drama and tension, and the characters were written with incredible emotion as they navigated through the traumas they faced.
I looked forward to listening all the time- the narrator had a wonderfully engaging voice and made it incredibly easy to follow and keep my attention.
I will definitely watch out for the author's next book.
Definitely recommended by me.

A proper tearjerker

I love a read that makes me feel all the emotions and this did that

This is the 1st book I’ve read/listened to from this author and I shall most definitely be back for more
Alison has written in such a way that I felt drawn to the characters and their emotional experiences throughout this book right from the very 1st chapter. I felt everything the characters were feeling due to the excellent storytelling

It’s so hard to know just what to write without giving too much away so all I will say is highly recommend

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to listen to this title

ALISON RAGSDALE - THE CHILD BETWEEN US.

Cassie and her family are utterly baffled by the sudden disappearance of her twin sister Isla.
Fast forward six years and Cassie receives the devastating news that Isla is dead.
Isla has one last request for Cassie. She wants her to become the guardian for her six year old daughter Marina. A child who no one knew existed.

As Cassie takes on her new role, she puts her whole heart and soul into caring for Marina.

There are still so many questions that Cassie needs answers too.
As the pair move forward with the support of Cassie’s mother Sadie, who has lived through her own hell, a face from Cassie’s past shows up and may just have some answers for the family.

While all this is going on, Cassie finds she has her own battle to fight.

What will the future hold for this little family who have already been through so much?

Oh my goodness!!!
What an incredible book.
I haven’t read anything by Alison Ragsdale before, but I’m thrilled to have now discovered her work.

#TheChildBetweenUs is an epic read.
I loved it from the very start.
Cassie was an instantly likeable character as was little Marina, who really stole my heart.

The whole story is an emotional rollercoaster. As the reader, you can’t help but feel every high and low that the characters go through.

Alison Ragsdale brings Scotland to life with her fabulous descriptions of her settings.

This is a memorable book. A story of loss, forgiveness, family, second chances and overwhelmingly a story of love.
Written with heart and so beautifully poignant, The child Between Us is a powerful and breathtakingly gorgeous read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“You know full well as I do the value of sisters' affections: There is nothing like it in this world.” -Charlotte Brontë

Whew! Wow, I’m not crying, you’re crying. I don’t even know where to start. This is a must read! I chose to listen to this a it’s one of best audiobooks I’ve heard this year. Paula Masterton was the narrater and she was wonderful. She drew me in and so did the writer. I felt everything. The good, the bad and the ugly and I teared up several times. It’s a moving story that will rip your heart out.
I highly recommend listening to this one and you’ll need your Kleenex. It’s Chic Lit and it was written well. I’ll be thinking about this one for days!

A beutiful and heartbreaking story about sisterhood, family, friendship, forgiviness and promises. Cassie has just found her lost twin sister after 6 six of abscence. She is not longer with us but is going to give Cassie a precious gift that will turn her life upside down and will help her see her future again. The audiobook is great. Paula does an amazing job with Alison's words

This was a very powerful book about love, compassion, and trying to do what is right for all who are involved. A very touching story that takes hold of your heart and carries it on a journey with Cassie and Isla that you will never forget.
Twins, Isla and Cassie grow up together. While Isla struggles with depression, Cassie supports her sister and takes up the slack trying to lighten the mood in the family and deal with Isla at the same time. But Cassie, due to her sister’s resistance, decides to go out and finally have some fun. She meets a gorgeous guy, gets engaged, then it all goes wrong! Cassie calls off the wedding at the same time, Isla goes missing. Cassie and her family go without hearing from her for years, until one day…Cassie’s life changes.
Narrator Paula Masterton did a phenomenal job with this book. She was smooth, easy to follow, and great uninterrupted character voice changes. She showed lots of emotion when needed, and the pace was on spot. I would love to listen to more books read by this narrator. Great job!
Overall, this book will stay in my favorites. It reminds us of the importance of the ones we love and cherish most and to hold them close. I was drawn into the character’s emotions and thoughts. It met my expectations as Fiction in Women’s and Literacy.
I would recommend this book to lovers of Jodi Picolti’s style of writing. This book was a gift to listen to. I look forward to more books by this author, Allison Ragsdale.

4.75⭐️ 🎧

I had the audiobook read by Paula Masterton, who does a fantastic job.

An emotional family drama, set in Scotland. Cassie discovers that her identical twin sister who disappeared 6yrs ago has died, leaving her 5yr old daughter Marina in her care. The blurb is wishy washy emotive language which doesn’t tell the reader anything, but at the same time hints at too much, so this is all I’ll mention, it’s already more than you will get from the blurb.

It’s a beautifully written heart wrenching character driven story. The budding relationship between Cassie and Marina is pitched so well, totally believable, and heart warming.
The characterisation is excellent, and was enough to totally hook me, as the pace is slower. I think the narrator really helped to add emotion and atmosphere.
It follows a predictable pathway, but that in no way detracted from my enjoyment, I was totally invested in the story and characters, I loved it ! you’ll need tissues for this one. The ending was perfect for me. I highly recommend this audiobook, it’s not a feel good, but has beautiful uplifting moments along the way.

Audiobooks are great for opening my mind to different genres that I might not usually read. The Child Between Us is one of those books, classed as Literary Fiction / Women's Fiction.

The blurb doesn't tell you very much, a choice line - 'The Child Between Us is a heart-wrenching story about an impossible choice and what it really means to be a mother'.

Cassie is a twin, she gets a call out if the blue telling her twin sister who disappeared from her life six years ago has died. Cassie isn't prepared for the life changing impact, secrets and after effects.

It's a deeply emotional story, grief, motherhood, forgiveness, love, family, illness, lots of the biggies. It flows well, but it's a gentle pace, I might have struggled to stay fully invested if I was reading it.

Emotionally it really works, I was close to tears for a lot of the listen. If anything I could have done with a bit more variety, it tends to be fairly consistently anxious and fretful with moments of hope and an undercurrent of love.

The narration was very good, one of the accents came across as slightly inaccurate, but nothing to detract from my enjoyment.

I feel mean not giving five stars, it was a very good, emotionally involving listen. I like a bit more drama, a bit more of a rollercoaster.

Recommended, especially if you like emotional family dramas.
