The Long March Home is a beautiful yet heart-wrenching World War II story about the Bataan Death March. This story follows three friends, Jimmy, Hank, and Billy, switching between their time in Mobile, Alabama, and the Philippines. The writing was beautifully written, but this was a very tough read with some gruesome and heartbreaking scenes. Sometimes, it was hard to get through some of the chapters.

Although this book may have been challenging for me, the story itself was fascinating and a subject uncommon in World War II books. I learned so much about the largest surrender of American troops in history on the Bataan Peninsula and the Bataan Death March. The descriptions were so vivid that it was easy to picture the horror of being held as a POW and how the march affected those soldiers first-hand. I enjoyed learning about Jimmy’s childhood and his friendship with Hank and Billy. This story gives you an emotional and personal experience of the pain and suffering that the soldiers faced and their longing to go back to everyday life. This will be one to read if you are a history buff!

Thank you to NetGalley and to Revell for giving me a copy of the book.
