This beautiful book will be a perfect mentor text for modeling a personal essay. Peter cherishes his knitted purple sweater lovingly made by his grandmother. After returning to his roots, Peter, enveloped by both the sweater and its associated memories, realizes it’s time for someone else to experience its magic.

The Never-Ending Sweater by Erin Welch is perfect: a simple and charming story which engages multi-generations.
The beauty of the story is perfectly complemented by Dorothy Leung’s illustrations. I would hang these on a wall. They draw you into the story ten-fold.
I’ll save you spoilers, but highly recommend this as a great read together book for parents/grandparents and children.

This book was so precious!! I loved the illustration style so much, and it really made me think back on my own personal connections to pieces of clothing I own & the positive memories I associate with them. This might sound silly, but a big, cozy sweater is definitely one of my favorite pieces of clothing to wear; there’s just something so comforting and satisfying about it, so I related to Peter in that way. This story has a lovely message that doesn’t hit you over the head. I enjoyed the cute cats & that Peter and his grandma went clamming together, an activity that has oddly always intrigued me for whatever reason. Loved the message about not being afraid to go out into the world, while still remembering the importance of keeping in touch with those back home & honoring our connection to them. Also loved that Peter’s main caretaker was his grandma, as far as we know, as I know there’s been an uptick in grandparents raising their grandchildren in recent years. This wasn’t explained but it didn’t need to be, & it wasn’t made to be a big deal, which might comfort kids in similar situations in real life. Also loved the idea of letting go of things that might serve someone else better than they serve us, even if we still love the object or possession. Would love to read this to a child and share this one.

The picture book, The Never-Ending Sweater by Erin Welch, is about a boy who asks for an oversize sweater so he can grow into it. It is far too long for him, but it feels like a warm hug. And as he grows up, it grows up with him, and he wears it when he leaves his homeland to wander the world.

And in the end, he realizes, when he returns home, and he needs to pass it own to the next person who will need it as an anchor as they travel beyond this small town.

Beautify illustrated, and wonderful sentiment. Handmade clothing carries you out into the world, and brings you back again.

A story that is as cozy as a well loved sweater. This story hit all the right notes - travel, family, caring for others. The illustrations just enhance this beautiful story that I just wanted to read over and over again. That this story comes full circle will leave you with that warm just hugged feeling and will appeal to young and old readers alike.

The Never-Ending Sweater, written by Erin Welch and beautifully illustrated by Dorothy Leung, is a lovely story of connection and intergenerational relationships. When Peter asks his grandmother to knit him a very big sweater, he can feel her love in its comfort as he explores the world. When he returns home many years later, he decides to pass on the warmth, love and connection of the sweater to a young friend who is still finding his place so that the magical feeling that the cozy jumper brings will continue.

This story is sure to become a favourite of young and old.

A beautiful tale told beautifully! There is a generational connection coming through which clearly demonstrates the connection between the grandmother and her grandson. I love the way the story and connection comes full circle by the end of the tale. Heartwarming. This is sure to become a classic!
