Summary:
After quitting her job at a restaurant, Simone Alexander decides to go to law school on a whim. Unprepared for the life of a 1-L, she faces difficult professors, a completely new city, and her burgeoning relationship with Silas, a fellow student and her neighbor.

My review:
I requested this book based on the premise that it was similar to Legally Blonde. I'd say this book was somewhere between Scott Turow's One L (which I read for a legal culture course I took as a freshman) and Legally Blonde. It features all the highlights of the 1-L year: getting acquainted with the Socratic method, tough professors, the immediate rush to figure out your summer internship situation, etc. I believe the author Kristen Alicia is an attorney so you know it's pretty accurate take on law school.

Regarding the romance portion of this book, I thought Simone and Silas were cute together. They're people in two pretty different life stages (he's like 8 years older than her? which did surprise me), but they worked well together. I thought the progression of their relationship was pretty accurate, especially for people in school. That being said, the romance was not always the focal point of the story. A lot of the plot was taken up by general friends stuff (new friends, maintaining relationships with old friends, the necessity of study groups in law school, etc.), as well as you know, the law school portion of law school. I appreciated the details the author provided about law school curriculum, as well as Simone's evolving relationship with Professor Patton (your classic "bitchy" female professor who actually isn't) throughout the school year. However, because of the relatively serious subject matter (making it through law school, which is no small feat), the romance and humor often got lost in the fray.

Where the plot did get a little less serious, it couldn't really follow through on the humor. For example, there was a charity auction where law students were auctioning off dates. The potential for a lot humor was there, but it didn't quite.... get there, if that makes sense.

The sex:
This book has one closed-door sex scene, and a couple kissing scenes.

Overall:
This book wasn't quite for me, perhaps because I was expecting a little more humor and romance, but if you're looking for a quick, light read about young adults (new adults?) trying to find their purpose (or maybe you're an aspiring lawyer trying to get a feel for law school), this is the book for you.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Entangled Publishing for this ARC.

*Note: This ARC review will be posted on my blog on May 27th, a month before the book is published

DNF - I was excited to take a chance on this book. Admittedly, I'm not someone who finds much success in the Romance genre but, this one seemed right up my alley. Unfortunately, I didn't gel with the flow of the story. The set up felt corny in a way that turned me off. I know many people will adore this so, take this little review with a grain of salt - I am not the target audience.
