Review for 'Close Her Eyes' by Lisa Regan.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Lisa Regan, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 3rd May 2023.

This is the sixth book I have read by this author. It is the seventeenth book in the 'Detective Josie Quinn' series. It can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'Her Deadly Touch' (book 12 in the series) , 'The Drowning Girls' which is the (book 13 in this series) , 'Watch Her Disappear' (book 14 in this series), 'Local Girl Missing' (book 15 in the series) and 'The Innocent Wife' (book 16 in the series) . I would highly recommend them all whether read as standalones or in order as a whole series.

I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. I am a huge fan of Lisa and if this is half as good as 'Her Deadly Touch', 'The Drowning Girls', 'Watch Her Disappear', 'Local Girl Missing' and 'The Innocent Wife' it is guaranteed to be a page turner. The synopsis stated that this book is A completely unputdownable crime thriller from an Amazon, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author. Gripping, page-turning and guaranteed to keep you up all night, it’s perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine'. I am a huge fan of Angela Marsons so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue and 49 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in the USA 🇺🇸

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonists are Detective Josie Quinn. The benefits of third person perspective are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

'Close Her Eyes' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Lisa domestic abuse including gas lighting, manipulation, physical and emotional abuse.

Well, Well, Well Lisa you have done it again!!! Yet another absolute mind blowing page turner!!! I dont know how on Earth you manage to get better and better every time especially when I already LOVE your books but you absolutely blow it out of the water each and every single time!!!!

This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that captivates the readers attention and places them right in the centre of the action. The cover and synopsis suited the storyline perfectly. Lisa writes in such engrossing and engaging way that I become completely absorbed in the storyline.

As soon as I started reading this book I fell straight back into the storyline from 'the end of 'The Innocent Wife' as of I had just finished it. I have read well over 100 books since then which just goes to show how much of an affect on me and how memorable Lisa's books are.

The storyline was very fast paced, absolutely nerve-racking and heart racing and kept me consistently on the edge of my seat. I was biting my nails and turning the pages until I finished it in one sitting. Lisa's fantastic evocative writing skills ensures you are sucked deep into the storyline with the events and atmosphere coming to life around you along with the larger than life characters. In this book Josie is called in when a body of a 19 year old female Sharon is discovered. When she reaches the scene it looks possible that Sharon may have fallen but the team notices that something doesn't seem quite right with the scene. When the autopsy takes place it turns out that Sharon was indeed murdered and during the autopsy M.E. Anya Feist discovers something that has her in tears. This discovery sends Josie and her team to Anya's ex husband Vance Hadlee after Anya explains that what is found on the body is the same as what he had done to her when they had been married. Vance is living in Bly which just so happens to be the same place that Josie's twin sister and reporter Trinity is investigating for a case that has been handed in to her TV show to look in to. Are the cases connected? Can Josie, Noah, Mett and Gretchen solve the case before another body turns up? Well the answer is..... in this absolutely page turning explosive thriller that you just need to get your copy to discover the answers yourself!!! I have no idea how the amazing Lisa can create 17 books in a series and continue to make my heart pound and come up with unique crime scenes and situations every single time while getting better and better but she absolutely smashes it each and every time!!!! This book is ram packed with drama, murder, tension, red herrings, suspense, action, romance, abuse, secrets and absolutely everything you could ever ask for in a page tuner!! This book has everything and more that you want in a crime thriller. It is unique and realistic as well as being fast paced. There was constantly something happening and it left me questioning myself throughout the book. It was soo tense throughout the book and my heart was absolutely pounding, I don't think there's much left of my nails now either lol!!! It is also an emotional rollercoaster ride that will have you flying through the pages from beginning to end. This is one of those fantastic books that I promise myself that i will just finish one more chapter and then definitely go to bed. Alas, Lisa just would not allow me to do this as each and every time a chapter ended it left in a way that I just had to find out what was going to happen next. This continued throughout the book until, before I knew it, I had completely devoured the book in one sitting several hours later and THAT ladies and gentleman is a true sign of a blooming good author!!! I was absolutely mind blown by one of the twists in particular and would never have seen that one coming in a million years!! I also never did guess who was involved so a huge congratulations Lisa!!! It is getting harder and harder to surprise me but you had me hook, line and sinker!!! I cannot wait to get my hands on all previous and future books of yours!!!

Although this is the seventeenth book in the series I had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

Clear your schedules before picking this up as you will not be able to put it down!!!

I absolutely loved meeting all the characters again and it really felt like I was meeting up with old friends I have got to know them so well in each and every book and it seems that every time I pick up one of these fantastic books I learn at least one more thing about each of them. they have genuinely grown on me like friends and each time I come to the end of any of Lisa's books I am absolutely devastated that I have to say goodbye to them and wait untile the next extraordinary addtion to this addicitve series comes out. Please, please tell me I wont be waiting too long Lisa!! I miss them already and I have only just closed the book!! This just shows how fantatsic Lisa's writing skills are when the characters come to life every turn of the page and they feel so realistic that they start to feel like friends that you look forward to seeing and your heart pounds faster and faster everyt time they are in danger, which is most of the time!!! I absolutely love Josie's down to earth personality. Josie has suffered a horrific loss and instead of being the type or person to let it either overwhelm her or the type who completely gets on with life and forgets she is in the middle. Not only is Josie a strong female lead but Gretchen is also a fantastic female model and I love the bond between the two women. They make an absolutely fantastic team and the dynamic between not only Josie and Gretchen is spot on but also with them and Noah, Mettner, and Amber. I also really like M.E. Anya Feist who is amazing at her job and it was heart-breaking to discover her past which , just like Josie and Gretchen, you would never have guessed she had gone through anything so horrific as she is such a strong, amazing woman who try's not to let her demons and past take her down. I absolutely love watching Noah and Josie's relationship continue to develop along with Josie and her twin sister Trinity's relationship. Josie and Noah both deserve to be happy and make a perfect couple. I was intrigued by all the new characters we meet in this book and it was hard to know who to trust. Every single character in this book "played their parts" perfectly to make an absolutely fantastic and memorable team who I love meeting every time I pick up one of Lisa's books.

Congratulations Lisa Regan on yet ANOTHER absolutely fantastic action packed book and this is why your in my top 5 female author list and why this series is in my top 5 list!! Looking forward to the next episode in this amazing series 🥂

Overall a heart racing, page turning, addictive and unputdownable fast paced crime thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Genres covered in this book include Psychological Fiction, Thriller, Crime Fiction, Police Procedural, Serial Killer Thriller, Murder, Psychological Thriller, Female Detectives, Organised Crime, Noir Crime, Women Sleuths, Suspense, Serial Killers, Mystery and Crime Thriller amongst others.

Give me a Josie Quinn book anytime. I dont care what the story is about I will always read these. I absolutely love them all.

This is the 17th book in the series, and can be read as a standalone book. I enjoyed it and would like to read more in the series.

The plot is complex and spans decades, including a group of young foster children who formed a family when they aged out. In the present, a young woman was found dead of what was assumed to be by natural causes. When she was undressed, the pathologist/coroner found that she had been branded. This really spooked her as she too had a similar brand. The more in-depth autopsy that was performed later produced a different result. Murder.

More people, dead and alive, were found to have been branded with a similar brand, and not all by the same person. I never once guessed the identity of the villain. I received an e-arc of this book from the publisher Bookouture via NetGalley, and voluntarily read and reviewed it.

A young woman is found dead, seemingly in an accident but the autopsy reveals murder. She was branded before her death in an act which is hauntingly familiar to the patholgist who was herself branded...
Close Her Eyes is the 17th book to feature Detective Josie Quinn, her family and police team. The personal storylines continue from earlier books but there are no spoilers about previous cases.
Shannon Eddy was branded then strangled to death. The only clue the police have is the link to pathologist Anya Feist's personal experiences of being branded by her ex husband Vance. Josie discovers multiple links between the victim and characters from another town including Vance. The case seems quite straight forward but twists and turns of the plot kept me guessing. Josie is unable to prevent a second victim being killed and there is another cold case which is connected...
Josie's protective side comes to the fore as Anya reveals her traumatic past. But Josie can't afford to ease up on the investigation to protect her friend. The descriptions of the bodies is quite graphic although handled using an objective forensic perspective to minimise the emotional impact.
Josie is placed in danger as she investigates and this brings back her own issues from the past. There are some big shocks as we neared the end of the book and Josie is emotionally and physically challenged.
Close Her Eyes is a vivid and engaging police thriller that kept me guessing.

It's not my favorite one in the series, but it happens. I still love Josie, her team, and her family, who really make the series as strong as it is.

Book 17 of the Josie Quinn series was nothing short of amazing. Lisa Regan did it again with a book that pulls you in from the first sentence and doesn’t let go until long after the last. I am so invested in these characters that I feel I am a part of their lives. By far, my favourite author 😊

Josie Quinn is shocked to learn that a recent murder victim has a link to someone on her investigation team. When another girl is murdered it looks as though a cold case from ten years earlier connects all the victims.
This is one of the best books in this series. The blend of tension, excitement and tragedy along with an investigator with PTSD kept me reading well into the night. Just a word of warning, have a box of tissues to hand because this book will really tug on your heartstrings.

#CloseHerEyes #NetGalley Book 17 in the series but perfectly capable of being read as a stand alone. Although the book got off to a little bit of a slow start, it soon became a fast paced thriller with plenty of twists and turns. Some of the content was a little harrowing but added oomph to the storyline. I liked the main characters and look forward to reading more in this series.

Number 17 in the series, Lisa just keeps on getting better with her talent. She has written fantastic books in this series. She combines 2 of my favourites - thrillers and police procedurals.

Sometimes I think Lisa Regan overdoes the trauma of Josie’s life. It feels a bit overwhelming. But taken on its own this book was generally enjoyable. And I do appreciate Josie growing emotionally (though Egads get a therapist lady!)

Given a copy by Netgalley. Feedback is my own.

Close Her Eyes is the 17th book in the Detective Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan. This book can be read as a standalone mystery or as part of the series.

I found the beginning was a little slow, but once I got into it, I really enjoyed this book. I thought the characters were really interesting and the mystery was fascinating! There were so many layers to unravel!

I look forward to reading the other books in the series!

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book is a welcome return to the world of Detective Josie Quinn , in Denton , Pennsylvania
A young woman's body is found , murdered and branded - who is depraved enough to brand their victim(s) .
Matters immediately take a surprise turn when the M.E. Dr Anya Feist reveals that she too has a brand that appears identical to the victim's . Anya's brand was inflicted by her abusive ex-husband , from whom she has been in hiding .
Is there a link to Anya's ex-husband and his family ?
As more branded victims come to light it becomes a race against time to find the killer before they kill again , perhaps even closer to home than Josie would like .

The Author manages to produce a fast paced, complex thriller , with characters that draws the reader in, a great page turner .
I cannot wait for the next Josie Quinn book

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own

This is the seventeenth book in the series featuring Detective Josie Quinn and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Josie and her team are called out when the body of a young woman, Sharon Eddy, is found. There is no apparent cause of death but during the autopsy the Medical Officer, Anya Feist, finds that Sharon had been strangled but also had been branded. It is the same brand that Anya’s ex husband Vince Hadlee inflicted on her ten years previously when she told him she was leaving him. Josie and her team are struggling to make a connection between Sharon and Vince Hadlee. This only get worse when a second body is discovered, again with the same brand. How are these bodies connected to Vince Hadlee? This book has a complex plot and is full of tension, drama, suspense and twists and turns. I can’t wait for book number eighteen.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

A great crime thriller. I think the story line was interesting enough. However I guessed a lot of what was going to happen before I got to it. I’d say overall still a good read.

This is one of my favorite crime series. The characters are like old friends that I get to catch back up with, with each new book. There is always a balance of work and home for the detectives in the books so that we may get to know the characters. In addition to the team, Josie’s twin sister Trinity, is drawn into this story with her own investigation. I always like when the stakes are upped, and the case is personal, and we get that in this installment. Dr. Feist is the medical examiner and we find out she has a connection to the case.

Since this is book 17, I’d like to add this can be read as a standalone. The author does a good job of filling in any details from previous books that you need to know. But I love the character development in this series and think the building from book to book adds a lot to the read.

The story is fast paced and kept me on my toes with a lot of suspects. There are some potential trigger warnings and the author uses sensitivity when dealing with them. As usual, I loved following along as the team races to solve the case and seeing if I can take the same clues and get there first. As a side note, I rarely do.

I think long time series readers along with new to the series readers will enjoy this one. It’s another great installment in the Josie Quinn series.
