As a big fan of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo/Millennium Series, I was delighted to get the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book thanks to the publisher and Netgalley. I enjoyed reading more about Lisbeth and the other returning characters, and her niece was a great addition to the cast. For me, the first half of the book was a little slow, with most of the attention going to other characters rather than Lisbeth. The previous trilogy seemed like a more seamless continuation of the original books. I think this trilogy will take the story in a new direction, so it was probably necessary to get more background information. I look forward to seeing how things are resolved in future books. Fans of the series will be happy to read this book and continue the adventure.

Lisbeth Salander always piques my interest, so I was ecstatic to receive an advanced copy of this book. Many thanks to NetGalley and Knopf, Pantheon, Vintage and Anchor.

In continuance of the Millennium series, Lisbeth has been named guardian to her niece, Svala. Lisbeth has no interest in caring for a child, but Svala is different. She’s brilliant and she’s in danger. Her grandmother has died and her mother has disappeared, so Lisbeth is next in line to be Svala’s guardian.

Henry Salo, head of the municipality in Gasskas, is working to get a wind farm installed on acreage that is owned by others. His job is to get these folks to allow the wind farm on their land, though numerous families have said no. When unsavory characters decide to take matters into their own hands, chaos ensues. We have kidnappings, beatings, shootings and any number of heinous acts upon women. In order to protect Svala, Lisbeth must first conquer this underworld of crime.

There is a constant circle of mystery and intrigue and it’s difficult to keep up with at times. I also struggled to understand and keep track of the thoughts in italicized words - the things people were thinking, not saying. I couldn’t often put them in context. I also wish Lisbeth had more of a role in the story.

This book is gripping and fast-paced. I rate it 3 stars. This hits the shelves on August 29, 2023.
