This was a total cover request. I mean look at that! Hello! I had no clue this was the 8th book in the Sentinels of Savannah series until a few seconds ago. I've literally just read the conclusion of a series and you know what, I'm giving total props to Kessler for how this felt like a standalone. I didn't feel lost and the story felt whole. There were inklings where I thought there was a past I might be missing but more of a blip in my reading. Leave it to me to start the last one first.

All of my clumsy aside, I enjoyed reading this one. I liked the paranormal beings scattered throughout the novel from mermaids to shifters and pirates with vendettas. The addition of religious magical artifacts, a group that keeps them safe and a group out to steal them added to the excitement.

Lily is an author and Ian is an immortal pirate thanks to drinking from the Holy Grail. I liked his gruff demeanour and his ability to finally let down his walls for Lily. I appreciated Lily not backing down from a fight or from Ian's personal isolating habits. I wouldn't say there is witty banter but more so an unquenchable chemistry with those two.

Obviously I requested this for the romance aspect and the pirate bumchicawawa. This was more of a second chances paranormal romance with a few sexy scenes to enjoy. Yes, I would've liked more pirate booty but I was also pretty into the action.

Now I need to find time to go back and enjoy the other 7 from this series. I have a feeling I'll end up loving the characters even more by the end. Thank you Entangled Publishing for the gifted digital copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review! True rating 3.5/5.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I have been loving this series since the get go. I got a copy of the first one from the author for a review. I have not looked back since. I am not saying that Ian has one of my favorite of the Pirates. He kind of comes off as distant and most a jerk. He walked away from Lily thinking it would protect her. Now a relic that is said to kill immortal is missing and Lily is in danger from a threat from the past. Now Ian has to go and explain himself and his decisions to her. I do love this author and her writing. This just made happy to read this.

As this was my first book by Lisa Kessler, I have to say I enjoyed it. I couldn't put it down it had all of my favorite's shifters, magic users, mermaids and pirates. This has a unique paranormal concept with tons of action. I found the characters are to be addictive and sexy. I love love love Ian can we say hot. The interaction and spicy that happens between Lily and Ian is WOW level. I would recommend reading this book for sure.

This is Ian and Lilys story. When Ian’s ex-captain shows up in New Orleans it’s his job to protect the woman he loves even though he walked away from her! Lily doesn’t understand, he’s walked out of her life with no explanation, now he returns and claims he loves me still. Secrets secrets!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

Trigger Warnings
This book contains:
• Kidnapping
• Murder
• Blackmail.
Characters
Ian is the Captain of the original Sea Dog pirate ship and sacrificed everything for those he loves. While he feels separated from his crew, he still remains steadfastly loyal to his crew beyond what most would expect.
Lily is a writer who’s been dating Ian for some time, and yet finds herself well and truly out of her depth when Ian’s past catches up to her. While she strives to keep her independence, she also knows that she needs to be there for Ian.
Storyline
Right when Ian was about to reveal his greatest secret to Lily, his world is thrown into chaos. He left her to try and protect her from his old enemies, and yet, she’s inextricably drawn into the fray and he’s desperate to keep her safe. Even if she fights him the whole time.
Overall Thoughts
As the last book in the series, we get several storylines closed that have been brewing for a few books. While it was great to have these closed off, there were a few small details that I would’ve loved to have been addressed at this ending that weren’t.
The character arc that we discover for both Ian and Lily were really well written and kept you captivated throughout. So many little things about Ian that didn’t make sense in the previous book started to make sense. Little details that no one could understand now made sense. And in doing so, the depth of his character was unveiled in a way I wasn’t expecting.
Along with all the action I’ve come to expect from Lisa, this book delivered on so many levels.

Ian and Lilly's story was so good. As usual you get what all good stories have, characters are amazing, the plot interesting and the romance steamy. Loved everything about it.

Thank you to Entangled and NetGalley for the ARC of The Captain's Curse.

The Captain's Curse tells the story of immortal pirate captain, Ian Flynn, trying to protect the love of his immortal life, Lily Bouchard, from the immortal pirate captain that he overthrew 250 years ago. Now the Spear of Destiny is in play which could end their immortal lives once and for all.

This is the eighth book in the Sentinels of Savannah series and each is marketed as being stand alone but I would recommend reading them in order. There are a lot of spoilers for the books that come before and I would have probably enjoyed the book more if I had read more of the characters motivations for how they treated each other. I felt like there were a lot of things going on in this book but all of the tension was quickly resolved. I was also really annoyed every time Lily said that she had written about killers so she understood XYZ. That is not actually experience.

This book was not for me.

I have been provided with a review copy of The Captain's Curse from NetGalley for an impartial review. I was just drawn into this wonderful story and I just couldn’t get enough of it. It was just so easy to get lost in this great story. I just didn’t want it to end. I just lost myself in and I just couldn’t get enough of these interesting characters. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.

I'm a huge fan of Pirates in stories and especially pirate romances so I was super excited for this. Unfortunately, it fell just a little flat for me. I did enjoy the redemption arc for their love story and the rivalry between Captains. Overall it was a decent book but not a favorite.

The Captain's Curse is my first title by this author. I loved the entire premise of the story - pirates from the past living in contemporary times. I enjoyed all the characters and I'll be going back to read the prior stories in this series. Thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable!

I don't care implausible the plot is, I cannot get enough of these immortal pirates! I love all of these characters, and I love how the plot is perfectly paired with each couple. The author does a great job with the character development. I'm going to be sad when this series is done!

I was unaware that this was not book 1 in a series. I need to look into that more as I accept or try for ARC’s.

Overall it was a good story but I was a little lost when referencing old characters and situations.

The writing was great and the plot was wonderful, this was just to do with me and being able to understand the world and other things.

This was the first book in the series that I have read and I truly enjoyed the storyline. I love the spins on the paranormal and history. I would 100% recommend this book.

We learn that Captain Ian Flynn and his crew are immortal because they found and drank from the Holy Grail. Because of this, Captain Flynn's idea of love and life has been tarnished. What he once thought about love turns out to be different than how he currently feels. Throughout the story, he tries to redeem himself with his crew and the woman he has fallen in love with, Lily Bouchard.

Lily is mad. Several months ago, Ian walked out of her life and disappeared without a word. Now what she thought would be a nice change of scenery for her writing has brought her face-to-face with her ex. But what she thinks she knows and sees is wrong on all fronts. Ian desperately tries to convince her that the reason for him ghosting her was to protect her, but a broken heart can be hard to heal when it's been broken the same way before.

As Lily searches her heart to forgive the Captain, an old nemesis of his shows up to ruin it all. Can Ian prove that what he did was totally out of love and protect the woman he loves? Will his past come to finish him off and take him from her? Can people change for the better?

Such a great story. After Ian Flynn ghosts her trying to keep her safe, she wants nothing to do with him. Now her life is in danger again so she is stuck with Ian, it was great how the pirate's, mermaids and wolves came together to battle the enemy. Epic.

The Captains Curse
by Lisa Kessler
4.5 stars

Took me a bit to get into this I feel like I need to read the rest of the series to understand this one more. I will say Ian is mm chef kiss. I want to go visit Savannah to see if I can find someone like Ian haha. It was so well written and so good. The only reason its not 5 stars is cause I felt like I was missing stuff. I will be going back and reading the series from the beginning.
Thank You, Net Gally and Entangled Publishing for this eARC for an honest review.

The eighth book in the Sentinels of Savannah, another great story in the series. Immortal Captain Ian Flynn, Writer Lily Bouchard and the Spear of Destiny's story. The story is well written with a very good storyline the grabbed my interest from the start. There is drama, suspense, danger, a villain and romance. The story is well worth reading this is a series I would like to read again. I received a copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Immortal pirates fear only one thing- the Spear of Destiny that can kill them for good. Now it is in the hands of Rutger Morgan their ex-captain and he wants revenge. Captain Ian Flynn will do anything to protect the Sea Dog crew, but he too has been cursed by love. Now instead of being clear on his mission, his head and his heart grapple in dealing with killing Morgan, keeping his crew and mortal girlfriend Lily safe, and in trying not to loose himself in the process.
I loved this book of the immortal Sea Dogs crew. Ms. Kessler writes with such great prose that the reader is instantly transported into this world filled with pirates, mermaids, and the supernatural, and believes every word. This was an exciting adventure and it was great to see where the crew have all ended up and what they are doing. Ian Flynn was always a bit of a mystery so hearing his tale was enthralling. Lily was ok as a partner but she seemed a bit wishy-washy to me, not really suitable for someone as strong as Flynn despite him saying that she got him to consider alternate views of situations. The steam level is hot in this one! Lots of adrenaline spiking moments. And overall, a great romance. Highly recommended.
While it could be read as a stand alone, as most of this series can be, this one has a lot of backstory that may need further explanation so I do not recommend reading this book first if you are going to read this series.
I received an advanced copy but my review and thoughts are my own and freely given.

Thank you so much to Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for letting me read an eARC of The Captain’s Curse! This is the 8th book in The Sentinels of Savannah series, and I’ve definitely enjoyed all of the ones I’ve read- what’s not to love about immortal pirates?
The Captain’s Curse 4/5 Stars
Summary from Goodreads: Captain Ian Flynn would die for any one of his crew…if he could. Now he might have to. Because one of the only known weapons able to kill an immortal is missing. The Spear of Destiny—a priceless religious artifact from the crucifixion—is in the hands of his ship’s ruthless ex-captain. Now the lives of the Sea Dog’s immortal pirate crew are all at risk…along with the headstrong mortal Ian never should have fallen for.
Writer Lily Bouchard isn’t sure what’s worse. That she fell for Ian Flynn only to get her heart broken, or that she romanticized the man like he was some gorgeous viking straight out of a movie. So when he shows up suddenly with some absurd tale of immortal pirates and mythical religious relics, Lily doesn’t know what to think. He’s always had a wildness beneath his well-tailored appearance…but how could any of this possibly be real?
Now a centuries-old vendetta between two pirate captains has erupted, and Ian will do anything to keep Lily safe—even if it means risking everything. But she won’t give him up without a fight.
The only thing more dangerous than killing an immortal is falling for one…
Ahhh another quick, fun read featuring my favorite immortal pirates! What I really liked about The Captain’s Curse is that Captain Ian Flynn was our main character. We got to learn so much more about him and what motivated him to do certain things that were mentioned throughout all of the other books, like having the crew go after the Holy Grail to begin with and why he ended up leading the mutiny on the ship. I also really liked that we got to know Sampson Bane more too- we had heard some things about him back when he was still Morgan, the old captain of the ship, but nothing more than that he was an unnecessarily cruel man who was left on an island after the crew staged a mutiny. In terms of heroines. I liked Lily- she wasn’t my favorite in the series, but there wasn’t anything wrong with her either. I liked that she wasn’t scared of anything that was thrown at her and was willing to dive into everything. Agent Bale is my favorite and I’m excited to see if we ever get a book from his point of view. Overall, I really enjoyed The Captain’s Curse, and I can’t wait for more books in this world!
