This is book 10 in the Tracy Crosswhite series. It’s my first read in the series but the author gave enough history so I was able to jump right in. I recommend the read.

Seattle’s Route 99 serial killer targeted thirteen victims before he apparently stopped killing. He was never caught & the case continues to haunt the police officers who worked it.

Tracy Crosswhite works cold cases and has a good reputation for solving them. She’s assigned to look into this case and work with her Captain, Johnny Nolasco. He and Tracy don’t get along.

Nolasco lead the task force that was assigned to this case years ago. He has a personal interest in wanting to solve it. Can they solve this case without conflict?

This is my eleventh Robert Dugoni novel. He has several series and I love them but my fav is the Detective Tracy Crosswhite series. I typically give his books 5 stars as they are worth it but I give very few 5 star ratings! Yep Dugoni is one of my fav authors. Always looking forward to his latest!!

If you are new the Detective Tracy Crosswhite series she is a Seattle detective who takes on cold cases typically involving missing women. Although this is a series, this as well as most of Dugoni’s books can be read individually.

In this story Detective Tracy Crosswhite is assigned a 25-year-old cold case known as ‘Seattle Route 99 serial killer, who murdered more than thirteen women but first raped them before he killed them
He is now back but hasn’t been heard from for nearly 25 years.
Tracy teamed up with her nemesis, Captain Johnny Nolasco who failed to catch this killer when he was the lead detective on the original case.
They actually are a great team as the goal is to find the killer and bring closure and justice for the victims' families.
Story of course has some surprises but have to admit whodunit wasn’t a shock. The only real shock is the ending.

I always enjoy reading the Dugoni’s ‘Acknowledgements’ as they typically provided an inside view as to his inspiration. I know a lot of research goes into his novels. I was anxious to read what he has to say about this ending.
Hmmm. . . .he didn’t go there but did tell us how writing a short story for Amazon Original Stories inspired the trilogy " The Last Line #8.5", " What She Found #9", and "One Last Kill " that piggybacked off each other regarding the Seattle Police Department, Violent Crimes detectives.
He tells us that the Tracy Crosswhile novels will continue well into the future.

I eagerly awaited this new Robert Dugoni / Tracy Crosswhite mystery. The characters are as reliable and determined as ever. The plot is appropriately convoluted, interesting, informative and engaging despite a slow start. My rating is lower than usual for this great series due to something I believe I saw in the narrative. If confirmed that I am mistaken, I will adjust my rating and feedback.

It’s absolutely remarkable that the 10th book in the Tracy Crosswhite series, One Last Kill, can be as fresh and as exciting and engaging as the first book.

Tracy is still in the cold cases division of the Seattle PD, When the police chief reopens an investigation into serial murders that ended 25 years prior to the opening of One Last Kill, Tracy finds herself working with her old nemesis, Capt Nolasco, who had headed up the original investigation. As in the previous books, the plot takes multiple twists and turns, while at the same time keeping all the characters true to themselves.

Well done. I had a hard time putting it down.

I enjoy this series and the characters but before you read this one I would be sure to read the one before it. You will be familiar with the background of this story as pertains to Tracey’s hunt for a missing reporter, and in this one she is handed a cold case to solve that even her old nemesis and boss failed to conclude.

There are several paths Tracey will follow to find this perpetrator with enough twists and turns to make one dizzy. Plus, she is saddled with her boss as her partner. Will their animosity keeping them from bringing a dormant killer to justice? I’m not telling.

This book is due to be released in October, 2023.

The first Robert Dugoni book I read was Deadly Games. I am obviously late to the party when it comes to this author, but I am excited to read the rest of his books.

I flew through this novel while on a trip to Florida. I found myself eager to get in bed so I could read a few pages I woke up early to sneak in a few more before spending time with my friends- which was a blast!

I loved books that cover cold-cases and in this book of the series, Tracy is reopening the Route 99 Series Killer case. Oh and it's a doozy. It appears the killer is back after being dormant for three decades.

I enjoyed the animosity between Crosswhite and Nolasco. I felt extremely bothered and frustrated by their boss and now I am eager to go back and read more to see how on earth things ended up so poisoned between them. This book was wowza! Lots of deep loyalty and scandal in this book!

I have read every book in the Tracy Crosswhite series and this was another great addition. Robert Dugoni can always be counted on for a solid case that needs to be solved and an investigation that leaves no stone unturned. Tracy is fierce as always, but in this one she also has to decide what concessions she can live with in the name of family. She also has to work with Captain Nolasco, who she has always had a contentious relationship with. I enjoyed the dynamic of them working together and reaching a point of mutual respect. This one kept me guessing until the end, but the reveal still made sense. It didn’t feel like it came out of nowhere, which I always appreciate. My only complaint about the book stems from Tracy working in cold cases and the amount of flashbacks to the past it results in. It’s been like this for the last couple books and it takes me out of the story at times. It gets explained in the Acknowledgements that this was a trilogy within the series, so hopefully the future novels will have less time spent decades in the past. I look forward to reading what Tracy gets into next.

I have been reading this series for many years, and I was stoked to get an advanced copy of the latest Tracy Crosswhite!! This was a really great addition to the series. There is a very unexpected alliance that I didn’t know I needed 😂. This book can be read as a standalone or as a part of the series, I recommend reading the whole series if you haven’t. As always, I can’t wait for the next one!

Looking for a serial killer after 25 years. The main character is doing this in this novel of mystery and intrigue. This talented author has written a book that moves quickly with characters who come alive on the pages. This thriller does not disappoint. Tracy Crosswhite is a fantastic character who seems real. This is the 10th installment of the “Tracy Crosswhite” series. One Last Kill is centered around a serial killer that comes back into the police spotlight after a long period of dormancy. Tracy reopens the unsolved highway 99 killer and his 13 victims . Unlike a lot of the previous books in the series, there is not an easy and trustworthy alliance between Tracy and her partners, instead getting partnered with Johnny Nolasco, the detective on the original case. Their strained relationship battles with a necessary alliance as they are forced to work together to bring a killer to justice.

This is not my favorite of the Crosswhite books, simply because there were a lot of chapters I felt dragged in pace, making the flow of the book a bit awkward. Things would ramp up, and then feel a little stagnant and then ramp up again. The ending was frustrating as well but also is an interesting view into how the justice system is flawed, so I’m on the fence about my feelings on that particular tidbit.

Otherwise, it’s another solid police procedural and a good addition to the Crosswhite series.

I'm a big fan of the Tracy Crosswhite series and this one delivered just like all the previous ones in the series.
Tracy is a well thought out character and it's been fun to see her life and character develop throughout the 10 books. The mysteries are always well plotted and the writing keeps me reading until late into the night. I also love how the books are set in Washington and mostly Seattle. The cold case books are some of my favorites so I'm glad he did a couple more.
Minor gripes I have about the books include the bias (pro) toward police. I've noticed it more since the pandemic and the BLM protests in 2020. There have been a few comments in the books (by police so it makes sense) about how the woke mob is trying to defund the police, downtown has become a danger zone, crime went up, and businesses moved out of the city. This annoys me because it's not the whole picture. But- I put aside my political differences for a good fictional story in this case! There is also a newly elected Republican mayor in the story which was entertaining/ not very believable to me. A few other hints at philosophies that don't gel with me were also spread throughout the book. For example, Tracy seems to approve of a woman's decision to never divorce her pandering, lying, cheating, corrupt husband because, as the woman says, "I wanted my kids and grandkids to love their dad and grandfather" and that kids childhoods are ruined by parents fighting in long divorces. Well... I personally feel like that's just living a giant lie when you are holding up the unrealistic version of the patriarch. But - the books are multi-layered and that couple have a lot going on with them that shows that they are relatively bad people after all, so perhaps that part was just to illustrate the mental gymnastics the wife was doing in her head to justify bad behavior. The main part that bugged me was when Tracy was like, "yeah that makes sense, that wife is so strong and saved her family by not getting divorced." It just felt gross. Anyway - those are just a couple notes for readers to know that the stories are great and complicated, and there is an undercurrent of conservativeness to the books. Some may love that, others may take it with a grain of salt based on their own beliefs. And some may decide they hate it! Personally I'll keep reading Tracy Crosswhite books as long as he keeps writing them!

This might be a disclaimer, I really don't know but I would most definitely recommend this to someone who is new to this genre, its a quick and easy read. Also, this book is literally perfect for anyone who is a fan of true crime (which I'm a huge fan of), like if you are a hard-core fan it might be predictable for you.

I loved the plot idea and the writing but for me it was also predictable but it also kept my interest (the fact that I knew exactly what they were talking about!?!?).

So how's a quick summary -

25 years ago, A killer nicknamed 'Route 99 serial killer' killed 13 women and then stopped all of sudden, and the trail went cold. Now nearly 3 decades later, detective Tracy crosswhite, is expected to bring closure to the victims families and work along side her nemesis, who was also part of the task force assigned to find the 'Route 99 serial killer'. But can they before the killer decides to kill again?

This is absolutely one of my favorite series, and Dugoni is without a doubt one of my favorite authors. I feel like I know these characters after so many books, and whether I am listening to them in audio form or reading them, each book is a wholly engaging experience on its own - but the build throughout the course of the series as far as character and plot development are equally phenomenal and noteworthy.

This latest installment brings together adversaries in a way that played out beautifully, full of tension and aggravation and begrudging respect. I really enjoyed the focus on Nolasco here - it rounded him out as a character in a way that felt plausible and satisfying. There isn't any Kins in this one, and not much Del and Faz, but the focus on Anita Childress, Mike Melton, and the horrific Chief Weber provided enough depth to the bench to keep this one every bit is entertaining and engaging as previous installments, and to continue the development of Tracy's world that I've come to expect in this brilliantly plotted and plan series. In the notes at the end, Dugoni comments that Crosswhite novels will continue coming, and I could not be happier!

When it comes to police procedural stories, Robert Dugoni’s Tracy Crosswhite series is among my absolute favorites! And while “One Last Kill” is the series’10th installment, it doesn’t disappoint. It’s a riveting, suspenseful page-turner that I was hard-pressed to put down!! From start to finish, I was drawn into the intricate web that this author spun, pulling me in deeper and deeper with each word I read.

Despite the new struggles Tracy faces at work, she continues to strive for an appropriate work-life balance. Her dedication to her job and her family, coupled with her steadfast loyalty to those within her inner circle, makes her character not only likeable, but multi-dimensional. I found the dynamic between Tracy and her long-time nemesis, Captain Johnny Nolasco, especially compelling in this book, as they begrudgingly team up to solve a 25-year-old cold case involving a serial killer that had eluded capture.

The mystery surrounding the cold case in “One Last Kill” is both intriguing and gripping. Admittedly, I was able to deduce the serial killer’s identity long before the big reveal, but I did waver in my resolve, never quite certain if I had it right. Regardless, it did not detract from my overall enjoyment, as I found myself utterly enthralled right up until the very last page. It’s little wonder that Robert Dugoni has become one of my top “go to” authors.

I was SO excited to see another Tracey Crosswhite novel and I could not wait to get my hands on it! Needless to say, it did NOT disappoint!

Cold case Detective Tracey Crosswhite is just settling into her office after a vacation weekend, when she receives a summons to see the Chief. The Seattle Times is reportedly getting ready to release a series of articles on the Route 99 serial killer – a killer who terrorized the Seattle area some 25 years ago, claiming 13 victims, before mysteriously disappearing, never to be identified. The leader of the task force at that time was none other than her nemesis, Johnny Nolasco. Now, ordered to work the case as the Chief looks for damage control, Tracey must set aside her dislike for Captain Nolasco, as she attempts to acquaint herself with the case. Nolasco is none too eager to work with Tracey either, as he grudgingly makes contact and begins to share details. Tracey learns that of the 13 victims in total, 9 were marginalized women – prostitutes and others neglected by society, before the killer turned to more productive members of society. The only thing in common – the women all had the same symbol carved into their shoulder.

As Tracey familiarizes herself with the case, she learns that the Task Force at the time had five potential suspects, none of which panned out, and one victim, a prostitute, had yielded DNA, although DNA profiling was in its infancy at the time. Being as good a place to start as any, Tracey works on getting the DNA run. When the DNA comes back with a match, the team is elated – but Tracey isn’t so sure… Meanwhile, she and Nolasco work with an uneasy truce, and she begins to appreciate the enormous pressure he and his team must have been under as the media ramps up the case once more. Told between then and now timeframes, the reader also gains some understanding into Nolasco’s character, the cop that he was, and his future aspirations that were dashed over this case, as he and Tracey work to unearth a stone cold killer.

This is a great read, and pure genius on the author’s part, forcing these two characters to set aside their differences to work together! While the storyline is a bit farfetched – and I’m not sure I cared for the resolution at the end (that’ll make more sense when you get there), I loved the interplay between these two top characters and the likelihood of a truce in future endeavors – although honestly, the prior byplay between Tracy & Nolasco was a great source of amusement for this series! I cannot wait to see how the relationship is characterized in future novels!! A great read & love, LOVE this series!! Thank you Netgalley!!

I always enjoy reading the Tracy Crosswhite series. This one was another fun installation. My reasoning for it only being 3 stars was the first 60-70% felt very slow to me. Then when it picked up and we learn more about the DNA relationship, I couldn’t put it down.

Tracy Crosswhite is reopening the investigation into Seattle’s Route 99 serial killer. After thirteen victims, he stopped hunting and the trail went cold, stirring public outrage. Now, nearly three decades after his first kill, Tracy is expected to finally bring closure to the victims’ families and redeem the Seattle PD’s reputation. Even if it means working with her nemesis, Captain Johnny Nolasco.

So we are now at book number 10 and this series is still going as strong as ever. Great to see that all our favourite characters from this series return again in this book, who would have thought that Tracey and Nolasco would end up working together unison, does it seem they can now trust each other? it may take some time but the potential is there for them to become a very strong duo in crime related cases.

I never get tired of this series and this is due to the strong plots presented in Robert Dugoni's books. I would highly recommend this series to any other readers, I would start at the beginning with book one, then you are able to see the journey Tracey has taken and how her career has progressed to the seasoned detective she is now.
