The creative gore here is perfect for Halloween reading. And it’s kind of a killer crime novel too.
You might not think from the opening pages that Zoey is going to become one of your favourite characters. But soon you will be rooting for her, and snickering at the snarky observations and quirky turns of phrase. You don’t have to read far before you realize that the author, being the former executive editor of cracked.com, has a wry and slightly demented sense of humor.

This futuristic supermall-slash-Vegas version of Utah has hypercharged crooked capitalism at its core, and thanks to her dead father, Zoey owns a large chunk of it. Anytime there’s wealth derived from shady/crooked origins, there are enemies. And Zoey's are a special breed of determined/crazy.

This book is a sequel to Zoey Punches the Future in the Dick (2020), which followed Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits. Those two were written by the same author under the name David Wong.

Apart from a tendency of the various characters to digress into brief polemics about the inevitability of corruption and predictably existentialist views of modern society, the book is entertaining for anyone who loves wordplay and unexpected situational comedy. It will appeal to mystery lovers who like their humour zany, and to many people who loved Mad Magazine and Cracked in their youth. And possibly to anyone who enjoys The Murderbot Diaries.

You don’t need to have read the previous two books in order to enjoy this one, but you will probably want to go back after you’ve lived in Zoe‘s world for this extremely eccentric adventure.

Zoey is back in her dystopia. The one she stumbled into a couple of books ago. I like the writing style and the madcapness of it all. I just still don’t like Zoey. I don’t know why I feel like I need to like a character in a book. It grounds me. Maybe? I still read these and enjoy them and then wondered what happened. Kind of like waking from a dream.

I have not read the first two books, and while I think this book cold be read as a standalone, the writing and various jokes just are not for me.

Great title, great cover, and likely a great read for fans. Unfortunately I came into this blind and had a hard time connecting with Zoe and the chaos that surrounds her. Pargin has a snarky style but it works in the context. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

I've read all of Jason's books, I loved the JDATE novels, but I've been a little bit so-so on his Zoey Ashe series. Like with the other works in the Zoey Ashe line I found myself skipping here and there to move the story along when I felt the story moving too slow and dragging, Which would be my main complaint I've never really connected with the MC or the plot and because of that the story feels slow and unimportant. Don't get me wrong I think Jason is a great author, and I'll keep reading his work, but Zoey just isn't my favorite.

I am always so incredibly excited to see Jason Pargin writing under his own name. Zoey is Too Drunk for This Dystopia is an absolutely wild and hilarious novel. The social commentary was biting, though I did not realize there were two books preceding, which I now immediately want to read to have an elevated appreciation for the characters within.

This is my favorite of the Zoey Ashe books, by far! Zoey is coming into her own as the "leader" of the organization that controls much of what happens in Tabula Ra$a, just in time to manage a music festival, a mayoral election, and her personal/family relationships. Pargin's social satire is right on the mark, if a little heavy-handed at times, and is a timely reflection of our current political climate. This book has a much better plot line than the earlier entries in this series and there are plenty of humorous moments.

I love the humor, the social commentary, and the cyberpunkesque setting of the story! I feel like I need to read the first two books to get a better appreciation for the MC.

Here's the thing. If you know who David Wong or Jason Pargin is, you are going to love this book.

If you haven't read other books by the author, this is probably not a great starting point. Mind you, nothing will prevent you from enjoying the book, but starting the story at the beginning is the best way to start.

The book is a great blend of science fiction, comedy, and social commentary.

What Jason does best is put the reader in a situation where they the reader is asked to connect to characters that we should be at odds with, but he humanizes them and makes us feel for them.

One of my favorite bits in this book is when they ask a character for a joke, he tells them he doesn't know any, but tells a story that is absolutely a joke, and because it was prefaced as not a joke, they take it as such and it just makes it so much better.

While I did get to read and review this book ahead of time, I can't wait to add the physical copy to my collection.

TL:DR. If you already love Jason's books, this will not disappoint. If you don't know his books, go start reading them. Now.

This was a book I read solely because I liked the title and the cover art. It was only after I started reading that I discovered it was a part of a series. Luckily, it is not hard to read as a stand alone and while I think I would recommend to others to start with the first book in the series, I found myself quickly enjoying the characters and dystopian world of this book. I was truly surprised by how fond I was of Zoey, Will, Deedee, Aviv and the other characters in this story by the end. It’s a witty, political thriller worth a read.

Zoey is a young twenty-something heiress to a criminal empire. As she manages the many facets of the empire she never asked for, Zoey finds herself hunting for the perpetrator who possibly staged a horrific crime broadcast live on the social network.

This novel is the third installment of a great sci-fi series. And yet again, it did not disappoint. From the gritty and comic-book-like characters to the out-of-this-world setting of the new city Tabula Ra$a, this series couldn’t get any more unique.

I especially enjoy Zoey’s nonchalant attitude she portrays to the public after the horrors she has witnessed. Her edginess and survival instinct make her one badass main character.

Overall, it is a sublime journey to a world where things are definitely not what they seem. Enjoyable from front to back.

I dived into my first Jason Pargin book with some curiosity, and I must say I wasn't let down. Even though this isn't my typical genre, I found myself thoroughly enjoying it. Zoey, the protagonist, felt incredibly relatable, and her Suits added a charming touch to the story. The humor and the futuristic setting were highlights for me, and the ongoing suspense kept me engaged throughout. There were several moments where I thought I had the plot figured out, but Jason kept throwing these unexpected curveballs that kept me hooked. It's clear that he's a highly imaginative author, and this story was a testament to his creativity.

I was not very wowed by this book... but will admit I haven't read the rest of the series so I am probably lacking context. The main character seems rather "bleh" about her life. I will also say that the title doesn't seem very indicative of the events. It's not like she is stumbling around and things are just happening to her.

The characters are forgettable, but the story had piqued my interest enough to finish the novel. The idea of a new city stood up as a strange rich people's playground of debauchery. A look into a potential future where there is chaos from bionic implants etc is a cool place to investigate.

I have never read any of the books by this author before. What really caught my eye was the cover art and the title. It sounded like it would have an element of the ridiculous and it did not disappoint. As a reader with no context for the characters, this was fantastic! I will probably go back and read the first 2 novels. The intro did a good job lending context; I didn't feel super out of place. The set-up of the mystery was well put together.
It kept me guessing who is in on it with who and how the suspects relate to one another if they do at all.
The main character Zoey has spunk. She is portrayed exactly how it might play out to give someone very poor with such lofty ideals and has always dreamed of a better life an insane amount of wealth where she couldn't spend it faster than she makes it. Especially overnight. She laments but doesn't wallow. The struggles, the coping, the trying to do better and be better felt more realistic than I cared to admit. Her approach to protesters/activists/attackers humanized her, and you could feel her frustration at the futility.

Overall this book had excellent mystery elements, great setup, intriguing setting/world building, enjoyable characters that are not shallow but not very complex - you come to appreciate it's because you're seeing them through Zoey's very overwhelmed eyes.
Following Zoey through the chaos was a fun adventure.

I want to thank k the author and the publisher for providing the ebook in excahnge for a review. I have read the prior books and I do recommend going in order even though it is by no means necessary. My favorite of the series is book2. It just had so many surprises that were very cleverly done to this to top it.

Now that Zoey had settled into her role as a very rich person and a unintentional mob boss, she is trying to strategize with the suits to improve the image of Tabula Rasa, the city akin to Las Vegas where crime and mayhem rules.
In the meantime, another gory murder is committed on the big screens and she gets blamed. Again!
Zoey gets pulled in different direction while she still tries to do the right thing. What elevates the series is the weirdness, her cat, the dark humor and the general ingeniousness of the plot lines.
Do read.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an arc of this book.

I enjoyed Zoey is Too Drunk for This Dystopia so much. If you are looking for a not that far in the future sci-fi book with a healthy serving of the absurd, this funny, scary, weird, thought-provoking, action packed, multilayered story is for you. Loved the characters, their interactions, their plans for the mayoral race, the city and its citizens. There were a lot of balls to juggle and it was interesting to see how everyone's plans played out and the reasoning behind some of them.

This is the third in a series but is also a standalone book. There is enough explanation of what happenedin the previous books naturally weaved into the story so it doesn't distract or seem repetitive like it is in some books. I lost sleep because some nights I did the "just one more chapter". Repeatedly. I didn’t feel like I had to read the first two books though, in true book buying is a hobby fashion, I already own books one and two and look forward to reading them as well.

Zoey is still getting used to the responsibilities she inherited from her father, which now include hosting a riot so people can blow off steam.

None of us are surprised when a horrific crime gets broadcast and Zoey now has to figure out who is responsible.

Zoey states herself she isnt coping at all. And who could blame her with a series of weird things that constantly happen. Honestly I fell in love from the beginning with these weird but somehow completely believable problems.

This book is hilarious, incredibly detailed and will make you wonder if thats the future we are heading to someday because it doesnt seem outside the realm of possibility.

Honestly the ending blew me away. A definete must read. Thank you to net galley and the author for letting me read this arc.

I didn't know that there were two books that came before this one but it still swept me up into the story immediately. I literally was reading this every second I could spare, walking through the train station, in between meetings, and into the wee hours of the night. It had me on the edge the entire time and I had no idea what was going to happen and I COULD NOT WAIT TO FIND OUT. This was truly a masterfully done dystopian novel and the cast of characters were amazing throughout and had me laughing very audibly at their one liners and antics. I'm definitely going to go back and read the other two books that came out before this, I'm hooked!!
