This continues Ward Larsen's improbable but gripping thriller series starring legendary assassin David Slaton. He was originally trained by Mossad as a sniper, but now takes on missions for the CIA.

As this episode opens, Marine One is shot down in the river near East Potomac Park and the President gravely injured. Slaton is sent to China to eliminate three men, and has a target on his own back.

An assassin plans a second shot at the President, with support from a high-level insider - can Slaton stop him?

I enjoyed this book! The plot and characters are great! I needed a good mystery thriller to read and I got it in this book. I am so glad that I read it!

I haven’t read anything by Ward Larsen before and I decided to try it when I read the book description.
It started off really strong. The downing of presidential aircraft in an attempted assassination is definitely an eye catching opener.
After that, the trek through the halls of politics kept the momentum going nicely.
I liked the way Mr. Larsen writes. He appears to have a nice, fluid style that translates well across both the print version and the audio version.
One thing I thought was great was the pacing of the book. My interest never really waned throughout the story. The action, the political discussions, the personal beats, it all moved well for the entire book.
If I have one negative to say about this book is that the ended seemed a little too sudden. You knew you were reaching the end, but it honestly just ended. If that makes sense.

David is a CIA operative who is helping after America has undergone a series of high-tech attacks. Just when the attempts seem to be over, Marine One is brought down, with the president aboard. While she survives, she is fighting for her life.

With the backing of the CIA and unlimited resources, David finds himself facing off against a talented adversary, and a ruthless young assassin who moves like a ghost and has unclear motives.

What is clear, however, is there is a high-level traitor in the US government, and David is the only one who can figure it out.

This was a fast-paced thriller full of action. This was my first book in this series, and I really enjoyed it, it was so much fun. Even though this is book nine, I think that it was written well enough that it can easily stand-alone. The only thing that was a little bit of a letdown was how predictable this one was. I felt that it was a bit formulaic for my liking, but if you put that aside, it was entertaining. This book was totally bingeable, and it left me wanting to keep going even when other things came up. The characters were well thought out and developed, and I would love to go back in the series to get to know them better.

This is one of those books that will be playing like a movie in your head while you’re watching it.

Thank you so much to the publisher, Tor Publishing Group, and Netgalley, @netgalley for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

Every time a new addition to this series comes out I think I will find myself being bored since I’ve read so many. Although the storyline is predictable, the action is not. These scenes are fast coming and may leave you breathless. David Slaton’s mission may seem impossible but you can’t outdo the best assassin around. Now if he could only lead a peaceful life.

Highly recommended!

Assassin’s Mark has it all! An assassination attempt on the president. Assassin vs. Assassin. Traitors in our midst. Beatdowns, death and more. Ward Larsen treats readers to an action-packed buffet sure to leave the hungriest thriller fan completely satiated.

Marine One is taken down in a terrorist attack, leaving the president clinging to life. Tasked with finding the perpetrators and bringing them to justice, the CIA calls on David Slaton to be the point of the spear. As David investigates, travels the world and targets the individuals responsible, he finds himself in the crosshairs of a cunning assassin taking orders from an unknown source high up in the US government. Now Slaton must complete his mission of revenge for the presidential attack while also unmasking the traitor and upending a conspiracy that could reshape American politics for years to come.

David Slaton proves once again in Assassin’s Mark why he’s one of the most capable protagonists in the genre. He is beaten, bruised, shot and bloodied but never out of the fight. Using his intelligence and ingenuity combined with the intrinsic motivation to successfully complete the mission, he finds a way to adapt and overcome when the odds are stacked against him. And this time he’s really up against it with a battle of wit against an assassin of comparable skill and drive. But that’s what makes for a great story – witnessing two individuals who are world class professionals trying to beat the shit out of and kill each other. It’s a thing of beauty.

This tenth entry into the David Slaton Series is compelling, audacious and entertaining as all hell. It’s also well-written with multiple twists and turns navigated by excellent characters. None of which is a surprise. Ward Larsen is one hell of a novelist and a must read anytime he releases a new book. And trust me, you don’t want to miss this one.

Ward Larsen takes the David Slaton saga to greater heights with Assassin’s Mark, boasting a grand conspiracy reaching the White House and a fast-paced action narrative that has Slaton questioning his orders and his future.

When the President of the United States is left in a coma after an audacious attempt on her life, the Vice President -and now acting president- aims to retaliate against the mysterious cabal known as The Trident. His ultimate weapon is David Slaton; a scalpel who has had previous encounters with The Trident and now holds the best chance to take the key members of the group out. What Slaton doesn’t bank on is another assassin working against in accordance with a high ranking member in the White House.

Larsen runs a tight ship with Assassin’s Mark as he expertly weaves a deeply engaging narrative together with explosive action and jaw-dropping uses of up-and-coming technology, putting a lot of hurdles for Slaton to overcome in his mission. Larsen elevates the quality of the action-packed storytelling with moral quandaries that give both Slaton and the readers pause as our assassin’s sniper reticle zeroes in on a target while the bells go off to warn that something isn’t what it seems to be.

It’s always a delight to read David Slaton progress over the years and even more so because Ward Larsen always one-ups himself each time with exciting new stories and situations that fit right into the thrillerhouse without becoming repetitive. Assassin’s Mark is an absolute beast of a thriller.

Wow, what a really great book. I enjoyed the premise of the book and the action was constant but also believable. The ingenuity of the attack on Marine One was well thought out. I loved all the complex characters and their motives and trying to figure out what would happen. I have read many of the previous books in this series and this one is my favorite so far.

Excellent story as Slaton transitions to life in America and gets to experience firsthand the duplicity of national leaders. It all starts with an assassination attempt on the president in DC and moves on to the Far East as an international plot unfolds.
