Veniss Underground by Jeff VanderMeer is a dark, imaginative and surreal novel that takes the reader on a journey to a futuristic city, built over an underground labyrinth of tunnels and mines. In this city, humans are recycled into something unrecognizable, and Living Artists craft works out of biological material. The story follows three characters, Nicholas, his twin sister Nicola, and Nicola's former lover, Shadrach, as they embark on a journey filled with horrors of all kinds.

The book is told from three different perspectives, each of which adds depth and complexity to the story. The world-building is excellent, and the descriptions of the underground tunnels and the decadent future are both vivid and atmospheric. The characters are well-drawn and compelling, and their struggles with love, memory, and obsession are both relatable and harrowing.

Jeff VanderMeer's prose is poetic and immersive, and his vivid descriptions of the horrors that lurk behind each turn are both terrifying and mesmerizing. The themes of the novel, such as the limits of love, memory, and obsession, are explored in a way that is both thought-provoking and disturbing.

Overall, Veniss Underground is a must-read for fans of dark, imaginative, and surreal fiction. It is a journey that will take the reader to the depths of the earth and the depths of the human psyche, leaving them with haunting and unforgettable images long after the final page has been turned.

This book is so weird and wonderful, as you would expect from Jeff VanderMeer. The narrators were great, and I really enjoyed the audio experience. Absolutely 100% no complaints. Really enjoyed this horrifically weird journey that VanderMeer took me on. I was here for every minute.
