It's definitely worth a vacation read. It has all elements of mystery, humor and quirkiness to keep readers entertained. It starts out a bit slow, but picks up pace about halfway through. There's quite a number of characters to keep track of, but ultimately it works out in the end.

This was not my typical genre, but it was interesting! Still, I had trouble keeping up with the crazy plot twists and connecting to the characters. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a unique mystery that will push boundaries of believability!

This book took me for a ride! It follows Goldie, who is in a tragic car accident. She's a well-known actor who onlookers recognize. She is pulled from the car and barely conscious. When she gets to the hospital the doctors let her husband know that she has a fatal brain injury. Due to the accident, Goldie is convinced that she's Gypsy. Gypsy is a hippie-detective that her newest script is based off of. She believes her sister works for the CIA and her husband is lying about his true identity. They all decide to play along for Goldie's well being.
This was a book I didn't want to put down. It definitely kept me on my toes and kept me wanting to read more. It wasn't the most believable but it still kept me intrigued. I would definitely recommend it!

A darkly reflective novel about the dangers of fame and exploitation told in a fast-paced, intense and explosive thriller style.

An action-adventure tale, Far Out (2024) by Khaled Talib sees the return of Blake Deco and his Hollywood movie star wife, Goldie St. Helen. Goldie awakens on the highway after a car crash and has no memory of who she is. Goldie thinks she is a 1960s PI, the actual character in her latest film script. She is searching for a missing hippie woman and thinks Blake is a CIA plant. Complicating the situation, Goldie’s lawyers want her admitted to a psychiatric ward so they can take over her finances. A romp of an adventure occurs with medicinal cannabis tablets giving Goldie her memory back for brief periods. The narrative switches between these two characters with mayhem and humour. A somewhat absurdist tale with plenty of action but lacking profundity, so only a three stars read rating. With thanks to Running Wild Press and the author, for an uncorrected advanced review copy for review purposes. As always, the opinions herein are totally my own, freely given and without inducement.

I really enjoyed the first half of this books because I loved the characters and I found it really entertaining. The second had a lot of excitement but I wished that more had been revealed about Blake's past early on. I wish what had made the first half of the book so entertaining had continue longer into the second half of the book. It's not a bad book.

I don’t know if I liked or did not like this book. I was never that invested. The story didnt’ mean much to me. It just kept getting more and more unbelievable. Still, it was fun to read. I felt like I was missing parts of the story. Was I? Probably not. But maybe so, This book was in no way realistic. It was weird and fun to read,

This is a fact paced action packed story you don’t want to end. It was a fun read and very witty, which I enjoy. The characters were enjoyable and deeply entertaining.

I really wanted to get to this one, as it seemed interesting. The downfall was that I requested so many ARCs that I could not get to all of them before the book was archived. If I can find this somewhere for a reasonable price, I will try to get it!

TW: mention of rape in this review

If you're in the mood for an over-the-top dark comedy, you just might enjoy Far Out. I certainly had a blast with it, even though I'd initially expected it to be a straightforward thriller. A roster of entertaining characters amps up the fun. Now, this can get quite ridiculous, and even I think one or two of them get too outrageous. I'm also not wild about some of the cheap humor and bits that this goes for. It makes the book feel like a cringey 2000s comedy (and not in the good way). For example, one particular bit involves a character claiming a woman they know couldn't have possibly raped another woman because the first woman isn't a lesbian. Yes, that's a real moment in the book. And it has more moments like that scattered throughout the pages—not a high amount, but still, they pop up.

But overall, I had a good time with Far Out, and I'm officially rating it 3.25 out of 5 stars, which I'll round down to 3 stars.

Fun and Fast-Moving Thriller Written with Enjoyment in Mind!

FAR OUT by author Khaled Talib is an inventive thriller written with a reader’s enjoyment in mind. The central idea solid, it poses an answer to the age-old question of how far people will go to wrap their larcenous hands around someone else’s money—someone they’re hired to protect. Unfortunately, Goldie Saint Helen and her husband Blake Deco are about to find out the hard way that they’ll do anything they can get away with—and more—by using something called a “Conservatorship,” the perfect vehicle for committing highway robbery.

What makes this story so interesting is the inclusion of amnesia as one of the adversities that Goldie must overcome to right the myriad of wrongs piling up on a pretty ritzy Hollywood doorstep. For the movie star about to be ripped off of her millions, it means not knowing her true identity and instead believing she’s Gypsy Star, a character in a movie script she was set to begin filming. To make matters worse, Gypsy is written as a private detective living and spreading the love in the swinging 60s. The juxtapositioning between then and now is perfect and keeps Blake on his toes in averting disaster.

If you like your thrillers loaded with laughs, and coated with mystery and a touch of romance, FAR OUT would be the choice for you. Mr. Talib does a great job of keeping one step ahead of the reader and surprising us at every turn. It’s pure enjoyment from start to finish and leaves me with an urge to read another work by this author to see what else he can do! I’m giving this one five stars.

The story revolves around the filmstar Goldie who suffers amnesia after an accident and how she is misguided by her peers for her estate. Very unique story and different. I must say, the author has done an awesome work with this book. All the characters were well-developed through the story. A must-read book and a good travel companion. I really liked the part when Goldie runs away from the hospital and punches her sister. Everyone gets worried and try to play along with her FAR OUT story.

This is the story of Goldie, a movie star actress. Goldie is in a terrible accident that lands her in a coma. When she wakes up, she believes she is a character from one of her movie roles. Gypsy, a detective. Gypsy's dialogue was just strange. A bit out there, so the title was fitting. The things that happened throughout the bit were highly far fetched. This book had potential, it just wasn't for me.

Thank you Running Wild Press and NetGalley for my ARC for an honest review.

I really love this book. I found the story to be incredibly engrossing. It was a fast pace, thriller, and I really enjoyed the characters as well.

This is an interesting story but the fascination for me came with the exploration of brain injury and the potential legal issues within the entertainment industry. Both aspects added a layer of difference which made this a compelling read. The author has a nice writing style which features credible dialogue and a fast pace.

Goldie is a famous actress who once was abducted. Years after that abduction, Goldie ends up in a car crash and, as a result, suffers from dissociative amnesia. Goldie now thinks that she is Gypsy, a hippie looking for a girl named Candace who might be in danger because the CIA is looking for her and wants to experiment on her. Gypsy actually is a character from a movie that Goldie was asked to portray. Goldie gets out of her amnesia pretty quickly, although very many challenges and adventures are coming up ahead, as not everybody is who they say they are.

This book was so well written. This was my first book by Khaled Talib, and honestly, I was completely invested right from the start. The plot was pretty predictable, but with this book, that did not even really matter since there were so many plot twists that got you wanting to know what was going to happen. The tension was up throughout the entire book, which just kept me wanting to finish this book. And when I did finish, it did not disappoint. You also got sucked into the character's lives. I was so invested that, at a certain point, I felt so bad for Maria that I almost cried. The book also briefly touched upon being locked into a psychiatric institution when you actually do not deserve to be there, which also was really interesting, and I wouldn't have minded a little more elaborate plot on that.

It was interesting to see Goldie´s condition and how it affected on her reputation and specially her poor husband. Props to him for taking care of her and having patience. Something i didnt like though was the slow placed plot.
