Lili Chin is the master of body language illustrating!! Honestly, I would give this book 10 stars if I could. I have several copies of Kitty Language and of Doggie Language and I am constantly lending them out to clients. They are perfect for all ages. My recommendation is to leave it on the kitchen table and take turns reading one page each day and discussing it at the dinner table. Bravo!!

A very sweet and informative guide to understanding the communication of cats, from the sounds they make to their body language. The illustrations are charming and cover everything you could want to know about why your cat is doing what it does. Even as a lifelong cat owner, I learned something new!

This amuses. I have two cats at home that love to airplane their ears, amongst other funny behaviors. Super cute illustrations. If you have cats, this is a must!

Princess Fuzzypants here: Not all kitties have spent the time and energy in training their humans as I have. Plus, as all we kitties know, humans can mean well but often they are rather dense when it comes to us. This book will go a long way to resolving this crisis if you have an intelligent “pet”.

It explains our body language and how it is the entire body that often tells the tale. Mistakes can be made if the human is not observant. But if they take heed at what is written, it should prevent a lot of remedial training required. It talks about how we are all different so it is up to the human to decipher any confusion. It also has some great pictures in case the human is still uncertain.

They learn what our ears, eyes, tail and all the other parts communicate when we are interacting with them. They also learn our various vocalizations. We Maine Coons are noted for our chatty and varied vocabulary. All in all, it is an excellent book. Your humans will benefit as will you. Five purrs and two paws up.

This is a well written book for anyone interested in cats and why they behave as they do. I can see utilizing this to bring a first time cat into the home and explain to all what to expect. The drawings are cartoonish and so lovely. This is a fun book to read if you love cats.

Attractive, kinetic and playful images illustrate this great little book. Author Lili Chin speaks to readers who may be new to cats and their subtle behavioural clues, to help people decipher cats' moods and interest in their surroundings and fellow residents.

The author conveys a lot of information in simple to understand prose, but never talks down to the reader. I also liked the use of colour throughout the book, reinforcing the playful natures of the animals. The author's love and fascination for the furry creatures permeates this cute book, one which I wish I had had years ago when adopting my first cat.

Thank you to Netgalley and to Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed Press for this ARC in exchange for my review.

Synopsis:
A fun and informative guide to understanding the plethora of subtle movements and sounds cats use to communicate their needs, wants, and emotional states.

My thoughts:
This was a cute and well laid-out book with lots of information (mostly in point-form) that breaks down all those little movements a cat makes. Fun fact I learned, a cat’s ear has 32 muscles for movement in all directions. After reading this I wouldn’t say I’m a pro at understanding my cat, but I definitely will be looking closer for subtle clues now. Plus, the book is full of fun illustrations enjoyable for any age.

💕You might like this book if:
🔹 you’re a cat person
🔹 you want a little more insight into what / how cats communicate
🔹 you like easy-to-read, non-fiction books full of illustrations

I've always had cats in my life from a very young age, so I didn't pick this up because I was looking for information ABOUT cats... I picked it up to see the cute illustrations lol.

However, it really does have a lot of good information in it, so I would definitely recommend this if you're thinking about getting a cat, or if you're wanting to learn more about them. Not every cat is the same, so some of this stuff might not be applicable (which it tells you that at the very beginning) but it's definitely a good starting point.

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Lili Chen, and Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed Press for allowing me to read an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed are entirely my own.

This review is currently on Goodreads, and will be posted to my blog on 5/25/23

This is such a cute and informative book. The illustrations are wonderful, and I really think this could be useful and entertaining for both children and adults. I've been in the animal welfare industry for well over a decade, and even I had something to learn from this book. I think all cat owners should read this!

Kitty Language is a cute illustrated book that tells about different behaviors of cats. The illustrations are extremely cute and make me want to snuggle my own Devil fur babies. But it only has info that a new cat servant would likely need. I’ve had cats for much longer than I’d like to admit, so I knew just about everything in the book. But if someone had just gotten a cat or kitten, this book would probably give them much insight into why cats do what they do. But always remember above all else, the cats only keep us around to be their servants. They’d appreciate you getting this book to learn to take care of them.

Thank you to the publisher, NetGalley, author, and illustrator for a copy of this book in exchange for honest feedback. This is a very cutely designed book which I think would be perfect for a young reader who is about to get their first cat as a pet! Even as a seasoned cat owner, I think it was interesting and I liked the illustrations. Everything is clear to follow and there were plenty of bits of info that I found relatable as a long-time pet owner. All in all, I'd suggest it to anyone who is getting a cat for the first time especially younger owners (like pre-teen or teen).
