Wasn’t sure if I would enjoy this book, but once I started I couldn’t put it down. This is a story of Dr. Eve St. Clair, a doctor of psychology, who went to Sunderland England after inheriting a home from her Uncle George St. Clair. After being in the home she started hearing voices of different people and foot steps. Wanting to make sure she wasn’t crazy or imagining things she contacted Ransom King, a billionaire from Seattle in the USA who owns Paranormal Investigations, Inc. The story became active with ghosts, the group finding dead bodies at different times, helped save a young girl who was kidnapped and sold, and having to deal with police. It was an interesting story different than most of Kat Martin’s books but very interesting. I would recommend this book to others.

The Ghost Illusion
By Kat Martin

I put in for this ARC book with NetGalley as I had read one of Kat Martin’s novellas previously in an anthology book with two different authors. That story, although somewhat incomplete, held promise so I thought I’d try this book.

Unfortunately, I found myself lacking a connection to the H&h. At first they both seemed reserved, morose and aloof. I didn’t really like either of them. The author didn’t write the characters that way yet that’s how they came across to me. Then suddenly the heroine is an empath with connections to spirits and becomes super emotional snd willing to risk it all for the H. The hero, is the caring billionaire who doesn’t want a relationship due to past hurts. Yet they wind up in bed together, in a relationship. They’re together, then not, then professing undying love. Again….very rushed and all over the place.

The story line was interesting and the side characters were very enjoyable. The authors writing was well done if way too descriptive for my tastes. Personally I was more interested in the side characters than our H&h. The story also got a bit too religious for my tastes.

A weak 3-Stars from me.

*** My thanks to the Publisher and NetGalley. This is my honest review of this book. ***

A 150-year-old abandoned English orphanage sheltering a demon so powerful it can control dozens of weaker spirits, a naive American woman, and a team of paranormal investigators led by a handsome billionaire--the ingredients of a thrill ride served up by Kat Martin.

Eve St. Clair inherited the English manor house and decided that moving to England would be the perfect way to turn over a new leaf. Her plan is disrupted by barely-heard whispers in the halls, the sounds of running feet, and inexplicable feelings of despair accompanied by sudden freezing temperatures. Terrified to stay in the house, she connects with a team of professional investigators who succeed mainly in irritating the spirit haunting the house.

Eve and the team discover the possible source of the malevolent energy, but are stymied by its power and ability to not only possess humans but act in the physical plane with physical objects.

Complicating the search for a way to exorcise the demon, is the overwhelming attraction for each other shared by Eve and Ran King, the team leader. The tension between them crackles with violent passion held in check by the fear of loss.

I found myself in the cellar of the house sweating out the monumental battle between good and evil. Most of the time I was holding my breath.

I really tried to get into this book but it was just a bit too stilted in its writing, almost as if I was reading a textbook instead of a ghost story.

Who doesn’t love a ghost story with a little romance? Eve is hearing things in her uncles old British home that she has moved in to and she’s worried she’s losing it. She calls in a group of ghost hunters lead by handsome billionaire Ransom King and they have come to help rid Eve of whatever is lurking in her house. This story has mystery, romance, action, and I ate every bit of it up. This was a quick and easy read and I hope we will see more of these characters in the future. This has so much potential to be a great series.

An absolutely amazing supernatural ghost mystery. I was blown away by how good this was, from te characters, to the history behind everything and the romance subplot just made this even better. This was tense and suspensful and will have you on the edge of your seat the whole way through - especially as it is based on some real-life supernatural Victorian events.

This was such an incredibly interesting book. The story of the ghost children is so sad. The storyline certainly got my heart pumping. It was a unique storyline. It kept me frantically turning the pages until the very end. I read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

I absolutely could not put this book down. A billionaire has professional ghost hunters that go check out houses that think they hear voices or sounds. I highly recommend this book if you love ghost story with the paranormal.

this was such a great suspenseful thriller novel, I loved the idea of a horror element to it and the two blended well together. The characters worked well overall and I was invested in what was going on with them. Kat Martin has a great writing style that left me wanting more.

"I believe Eve feels a strong sense of danger,” Ran said. “That’s the reason she got in touch with us in the first place. It’s the reason I decided to wait until tonight to go in with our equipment. I wanted to give her time to recover from her experience. Having all of us there as backup should be a big help.”

This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Written by a talented author, this is a mystery with dark undertones. It is frightening. I like this author so much, but this book was too scary even for me. That being said, it is well written with realistic characters.

Initially, it seemed too good to be true. Eve St. Clair inherited a Victorian home in Sunderland, England from her uncle, but now Eve is hearing voices and seeing things out of the corner of her eye. Online research directs her to Ransom King, a man who has devoted his life to the paranormal after the death of his family, vowing to debunk fraudsters who make up an afterlife he doesn’t believe exists. He and his investigators descend on Eve’s home to prove there’s nothing paranormal going on. Drawing from the real-life horror at Victoria Hall when 200 children were killed during a magic show gone terribly wrong, Martin’s story is engaging and exciting

If you like ghost stories and the paranormal this is your book. Never have I ever wanted a book to be over so fast yet found it almost impossible to put down. Grab some tissues, clear your calendar, and forward your phone to voicemail because this one is going to grab you (no pun intended) and not let you go until this is over.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
