Mary Jo Putney starts another series set in an alternate Regency England, Dangerous Gifts with Silver Lady. The hero is an officer of the Home Office who senses danger along the Coast and investigates threats to the Crown. England and France are about to return to war. Bran has been called back to his family estate as the only remaining male heir and he meets Merryn who has had her memory suppressed, but escaped from her captors. Merryn can sense danger and has some foretelling ability. Together they have to solve the danger to the Plymouth naval yard. Great paranormal adventure.

This was a great adult historical romance, that I would definitely recommend to fans of the authors previous books!

This wasn't my favourite read from this author but Bran and Merryn's relationship is portrayed as tender and passionate, and as they face peril together, their bond grows stronger.

Often books with amnesia aren't my favorites, but this one managed the plots well enough for me to leave my personal feelings aside and really get into the story,

I listened to an audiobook version of Silver Lady and was generally entertained. It felt vaguely familiar- almost distractingly so - for me to finally determine, no I don't think I've read it before. So from that perspective, perhaps it didn't feel that unique, but it was a comfort read - just an enjoyable escape from real life with enough drama, stakes, danger, and romance to keep me engaged.

Well written and vividly descriptive. I got lost in this story and loved the mystic quality.

A great series. It can be read as a stand alone but I have enjoyed the series. This book moves fast and has a little adventure, and romance. The ending was a little unexpected. Great read!

I've read and enjoyed books from Mary Jo Putney in the past, and I couldn't resist this one - a historical romance with not only some potential spy action, along with a touch of the paranormal? I had to give it a try, and I'm happy that I did. I enjoyed the characters, their budding relationship, the mystery of where each of them came from. The investigation of a possible plot against the country was a nice addition. And the fact that several of the characters had one form or another of some type of psychic gift is something you don't always find in a historical romance. I rarely find the first book in a series to be the best of the series - much time is spent in establishing characters and relationships and the overall tone of the series to come. I feel sure that this is the case here as well - but Putney has done a fine job of establishing where it appears the series will be going, and I look forward to reading subsequent books in this series.

Certain gifts can be dangerous indeed. Bran Tremanyne was abandoned by his biological family when he began to exhibit certain paranormal gifts. Saved by another similarly gifted young boy the two are found and adopted by the Tremayne's who are gifted themselves and seek and save gifted ones.
Bran, now a Tremayne and a renowned agent for the crown returns to Cornwall when he finds that his father is seeking to reinstate him as the heir to the family title now that his older brothers have passed. His gift tells him that he has another reason to go to Cornwall where he is in a position to rescue Merryn who is suffering from a memory loss after being kidnapped.
As the story unfolds, more gifted ones join the cast of characters. Smugglers, dastardly plots, assassination attempts are in the horizon and only our cast of characters relying on their teamwork and intuition can possibly save the day.
An excellent romance with its paranormal elements and thread of romance. I can't wait to see some of the other characters find their HEA as the series continues.

Extremely well written, full of emotions, drama, suspense, intrigue, mystery, paranormal, romance, action, history, passion with twists. All the characters are so well developed and very strong. Merryn and Bran have feelings and emotions between them. Bran has a history that when he was young , he was left because he was odd or different. He ends up being adopted into a large family and given love. As years go on, he helps others but then a solicitor shows up looking for him. He wants to return Bran to his rightful family. It's there he runs into Merryn and helps her recover yet finds out that she has some powers of her own that others want to misuse. Together they work to solve the issues of Plymouth Harbor plus between them selves. This author has the ability to pull you into the story and keep your attention till the end. Hope there are more of these books in this series from this special family. Would strongly recommend to everyone.

Interesting, intriguing, introduction to a new series that will showcase paranormal gifts in the main characters of historical romances. Great start to a new series!

What I liked:
* The introduction in which Rhys and Gwyn Tremayne find two small, gifted children – Caden and Branock – and take them home
* Bran: abandoned at three, escaped with Caden and made it to London, taken in and raised by the Tremaynes, works for The British Home Office, problem solver, researcher, knows people and can see threads – knows he needs to go to Cornwall and not because he is last in line to inherit a barony
* Girl: a mind-wiped woman, kidnapped, gifted, to be used against her will for something big – liked finding out who she really was and how her life would play out
* The closeness that Caden and Bran have both as tiny boys and later as men
* The idea of “gifts” and how they are explained in the story
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* The way the gifted characters felt and followed their intuition
* The relationship between Bran and Merryn and how gifted often find the perfect mate
* Getting to know Tamsyn, Matthew Davey, Glynis, Annie, Alice, and wondering about Cade’s younger half-sister and if she will show up later in this series will be
* That I liked and cared about the characters and felt I would like to have them as friends
* Knowing that there is another book in this series to look forward to
* All of it really except…

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about war, spies, treasonous acts, and the evil men and women will do for money

What a great start to a new series by a favorite author. The premise reminded me a little of her Guardian Trilogy but not so heavy on magic as that series was. In the new series the gifts are a little more plausible, more on the line of strong intuition. Can persons with these unusual talents be trained to have them be stronger? Just maybe it is possible, at least to a degree. Of course, danger and intrigue abound. I loved these characters so much. I always think that this author's characters and stories can not get any better and then she writes another better than the one before. Along with the main story of meeting new characters, thwarting a plot, there is the underlying current of intolerance for those who are different because of their special gifts. Can't wait for the next one.

What a fun and unique twist to your traditional historical romance!

Set within a traditional historical setting between London and the Cornish countryside, Mary Jo Putney gives her characters some extra pizzazz with the addition of paranormal gifts and special unique powers.

Bran Tremayne has just found out that he is not an orphan, but his family is alive, and his father wants him to come back and become his heir. Already happy and settled in London lifestyle, Home Office special agent Bran is tempted to deny his heritage, except for the silver string of light he sees in his minds eye beckoning him to set out for the Cornish countryside.

Upon arriving at his families estate, he is drawn to the woods. When one night the draw becomes even more powerful, the reason he’s here becomes evident when a young woman suffering from a memory issue surfaces from the trees.

After escaping her captors, Merryn doesn’t remember who she is or where she’s from, but she senses, security and safety with Bran.

As Maren’s memory returns and she works with bran to uncover an even larger plot than her abduction, their bond becomes obvious.

This was such an exciting story with an interesting mystery plot, and a delightful amnesia, based romance featuring featuring faded mates!

I’ve read a selection of Mary Jo Putney‘s books in the past, and this is her most unique I’ve seen so far. I’m excited to see how this series continues as we hopefully get the other siblings HEA’s in the future!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed the blend of mystery and intrigue within this captivating historical romance, unfolding against the backdrop of the early 19th century. The characters held my attention, and the brisk narrative, coupled with the challenge that summoned their unique abilities, added to the allure. Bran's gifted family proved charming, drawing me not only into Bran and Merry's tale but also sparking my interest in his brother Cade and sister Tamsyn. I eagerly anticipate more captivating stories from Ms. Putney in the Dangerous Gifts series.

Bran Tremayne a special agent for the Home Office and Merryn who was found on the Cornish countryside, she has amnesia. The story has suspense, mystery, drama, danger, a common enemy, twists, turns and romance. The story is well written with a strong storyline that kept me turning pages. I had to know why she has no memory. I received a copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A Little Magic Helps
This is my first time reading anything by this author and I must say it was a bit different than my usual reads.
An interesting romance story with wonderful characters that find love and reach a HEA.

Bran Tremayne is drawn to Cornwall to face his noble family. Bran was thrown away due to his magical gifts. He was lucky enough to be fostered by Rhys and Gwen Tremayne. While in Cornwall, Bran is drawn to the woods and finds a mysterious woman in the woods.

Merryn Penrose has magical abilities that can help her uncle. She is kidnapped from her home and mind-blocked in order to be controlled. Finally she is able to get away and finds Bran.

They both have a magical connection which helps foil a plan to disrupt the festivities at the Navy Yard.

This is a historical romance with some magical aspect along with a found family. I liked the fact that Bran had his foster family to rely on along with meet his noble family. He could find love with Merryn.

I really enjoyed Bran and Merryn's story! I just loved watching these two come together and work together to solve the mystery of what happened to Merryn.

Silver Lady is the first book in the Dangerous Gifts series.

Rhys and Gwyn Tremayne have been rescuing children in London for years. Bran Tremayne and his companion Cade were lucky enough to have been found by them and welcomed into their family. The children they rescue all have special gifts that have made them unwanted by "normal" people. Bran works for the Home Office which is a perfect fit for his gift of being able sense the truth and solving problems. Bran gets a visit from Matthew Davey, a solicitor looking for an heir that has a dragon tattoo his shoulder. When Davey sees the tattoo, he is sure Bran is the rightful missing heir.

Davey introduces Bran to his disagreeable father. Unfortunately, Bran remembers when his father got rid of him when he was three. He is not really interested in forming a relationship with this man. But being there enables him to investigate a potential problem in the area.

Bran spends time with his mother and sister in order to get to know them better. But he also finds a young woman who emerges from the woods, who doesn't know who she is and struggles to speak. Bran will be drawn to her as he begins to care for her and feels as if she is important to his journey.

This was a mysterious story about the gifts some people have. I enjoyed the story and the different abilities they each had and used for good. I liked the characters which were very strong minded. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
