I always thought that Duranja would have to die to believe in Verity, well, maybe not die, die, but suffer some serious accident that left him in a deep coma and that Verity would be the only person who could see and hear him enough to help him.
In Dread and Buried, Angie Fox gives us a less dramatic solution: she forces them to work together to solve a case that has been unsolved for decades, involving pirates, treasure, and a runaway bride. Ah! And this old case is intertwined with a current case in which, as usual, our friends are accidentally involved.
This story, unlike The Haunted Homecoming, makes me want to continue reading the series again. Excellent and very entertaining!

A fun return to the Southern Ghost hunter series.
Verity is on a birthday weekend break with her sister. Whilst she is happy to have her boyfriend along, she is not so impressed to also be lumbered with Melody’s boyfriend Alec, especially when she finds out that they are entered into a treasure hunt that will involve them spending significant time together.
Lighthearted and witty, I continue to love these books with their quirky characters.

This is a cute witchy mystery that was fun and engaging. It's another great book by Angie Fox. Verity has agreed to a double date with her sister and her sisters boyfriend. The date is a weekend treasure hunt on a mysterious island. The fun weekend quickly turns into a real murder mystery that Verity must figure out to save her loved ones.

I loved this book! I thought it was a fun read and I loved the treasure hunt and pirates. I will definitely read more by this author and I can’t wait to read more of this series.

OMG..... I loved this book so much. I mean, I already knew I would because I've loved the whole series so far but the added extras of a treasure hunt, deadly competition, pirates.... oh wow. Brilliant! I absolutely flew through this book. The series is so easy to read, the characters are loveable and you just want everything to work out ok for everyone. I've got to say though, even though I knew what decision Verity was going to make at the end, because it was a classic Verity response, I was desperately hoping she would make a different one. Maybe I'm turning into Frankie!!!
However, despite loving the change in scenery I am looking forward to heading back to Sugarland in the next book.... hopefully.

I thought it was a cute mystery on treasure hunting and pirates with a paranormal twist. It was an easy read, I had fun reading it and the characters are lovable. This is the first book from the author that I've read. I'm definitely interested now on the other books in the series.

I have never read any books by Angie Fox before, or heard of this series, but the premise sounded like something I'd really enjoy for a more lighthearted mystery. It reminded me of a combination of Nancy Drew for the mystery, and the Sookie Stackhouse series for a paranormal/fantasy type aspect, along with the southern charm (but without the spice).

This one was fun because even though it was the 12th novel in the series, it could still be read as a standalone novel. I do think I'll end up going back and starting from the beginning, because there were little comments that I'm assuming were relating to past events from other books, but they didn't seem to give away any major spoilers or take up too much time away from the current story which was nice. I loved the ghost hunting aspect, and the fact that Verity and her sister Melody (and their significant others) were on an island haunted by pirates, searching for long lost treasure. This was definitely a cute, cozy mystery. It had some cutesy little romances, the characters were fun (I particularly enjoyed Frankie the gangster ghost), and it had a very satisfying, happy ending. The plot wasn't complex, but it was engaging enough to keep me interested and I do plan to read others in this series.

Dread and Buried is a fun new book by Angie Fox, with her lovable ghost hunter, Verity and her ghostly gangster companion, Frankie. In this adventure, Verity's sister has wrangled her into a double-date vacation. The bad part (for Verity) is that her sister's date for the adventure is the policeman whom she has had numerous run-ins with in the past. Then while well on the way (too late to back out) -another "surprise" - this island is haunted and they are entered in a competition to find a treasure. Of course, Verity has Frankie's urn - and thus Frankie, along for the ride.
The island ghosts are of course PIRATES and Frankie gets involved - and against her wishes, so does Verity.

But mysterious accidents happen and everything seems to be going wrong. Can Verity prove her ghost-hunter worth?
The problems and hijinks make for a read that is difficult to put down. There is mystery and danger enough to keep you reading and just enough laughs to keep you smiling.

While this is part of a series, it is certainly easy to pick any book in the series to read with no problems knowing what is happening. Each book stands alone nicely.

This is the first book out of this series I have read. I liked the story enough to find and read all the others in this series. I'm much more motivated to read them now. I'm not new to the author as I've read her Accidental Demon Slayer series and I loved those enough to read twice, so far. This one is a cute paranormal cozy mystery. An easy read and can be read as a standalone. You can't ask for a better combo than that, along with great writing! The only thing that holds back that last star is I doubt I will read it again.
I definitely recommend this if it sounds like something that interests you and you need an easy read.

I love this series, and this is probably one of my favorite so far. I enjoyed the character building with Verity and the deputy. I thing it is amazing how she loves her sister so much, when many would be jealous with how everyone loves her sister more than her. Verity is just as lovable as her sister and it feels like at times the town is overly cruel. Especially since both sisters are free spirits. This story was unique and less of a filler. I liked that Frankie seemed to mature as well.

I always love to get into the world of Verity.. This book was awesome. I just got so mad at Frankie, He sometimes is a butt for sure. I sure hope Verity continues her sleuthing and finding new ghost to help.

I had a swashbuckling good time reading this installment of the series. The characters are such fun and the mystery was good. And pirates!

This was the first and only book I have read in this series, so I didn't know any of the characters back stories.
I did find the book to be fairly fast paced and the heroine a likable character, some of the supporting characters felt quite flat. It was an interesting read, but I wouldn't go on to read the series.

Heartwarming romance filled with engaging charters, intriguing story line, witty banter, heart racing twists and laugh out loud moments. Really enjoyed this emotional and exciting journey!

A great pirate adventure with Verity! With it not being set in Sugarland, we have a much smaller cast of regulars, but the cast we meet on the island is fabulous! It's hard to know who to believe and who to trust. What should be all fun and games turns dangerous, as usually happens when Verity is near. I really enjoyed spending more time with Melody and Duranja, even though he's a little tough to handle sometimes.

Written really well. Just not the type of style that I enjoy.... Ghosts are just not my thing. Sure others will enjoy it though.

This is book 12 in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mystery series and features Verity, her boyfriend, Ellis, Sister Melody, and her date Alex,and of course ghost, Frankie. The 5 are headed to a haunted island for a pirate treasure hunt. Frankie is happy to be meeting with new ghosts and learning about their treasure. If you haven't read any of the previous books you may be slightly confused but Ms. Fox does a good job of explaining background. Now that their party is stranded on the island someone is trying to put a major damper on their treasure hunt. I like this series. It's light and fun.

Dread and Buried was a fun spooky book. When going into this book I didn't initially realize that this was book 12 within an existing series. While the book can technically be read as a standalone, you feel a little bit like you are walking into the middle of the story. But this is no fault of the book.
This was a great read as we are nearing the Halloween season. Ghosts, pirates and treasure! The story itself felt unique. I haven't read anything that is really similar to it.
The story telling was light and fun with an element of danger and mystery that wasn't overpowering. It really makes me want to start the series to find out how the main character and her tagalong ghost got here in more detail.
I would definitely reach for more in this series.

Verity's sister wants to do something very special for her birthday, so she can't say no when a remote island “double date” weekend is planned. Little did she know that this was actually to be a pirate themed treasure hunt.

Verity and her group will be competing against an author and his wife, a professor, and very competitive twins. It seems that everyone involved has something to hide, including the host /owner of the island.

Verity not only has to deal with the competition, she has to deal with some very angry pirate ghosts.

This is a great story, as they all are in this series. Can't wait for the next book
