This book is actually incredibly good, and I really hope others will decide to give this a go! I do not want to write a lot about this, primarily because my brain is only thinking about this, and I do not want to forget what I just read.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me access to this arc.

4 stars/5

Well I gave up sleep to finish this book my god.
If you love friends to lovers trope this book is definitely for you.
If you love magic also for you!!!
Love that it is two povs.
Fast paced book - love.
Only downside was the world building, hoping this will be more prevalent in the following books.

Can’t wait to see what book 2 and 3 have in store for us.

This was interesting. I would have liked Dis-Cons and CIU explained early so they would have more of a pull. What is their power structure and what are their consequences. Honestly, I am super tired of the name Ella being used in witch and vampire novels. My cousin is named Sadie and I went to school with a girl named Shara Chudd so they were a little triggering. Picking character names is really important and individual but they can hit readers wrong. The description of feeling spellwork was fun. In my experience, it feels like energy being pulled away or it gets really heavy—like a change in atmospheric pressure. The people make me feel slow and like I am walking against gravity. But they vary in skill, just like writers. This book is good but it gets lost in the wrong details.

This book was too difficult to get into, I felt like I should have known the world when I started reading but it’s the first book. I didn’t make it very far.
~This book was given to me by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review

I received an e-arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion of the work.

This book wasn't for me. I won't say the story isn't good or bad. The outline of the story seems good there is action but it reads like 15/16 yr old ya and it isn't for me. The dual pov is good lots of stuff happens. Wren and Ella are good main characters and the magic and the discon seem interesting. It lost my interest and I started to skim the book.

This book threw me back straight to the distopic golden age of the 2013 's ! Funny and action packed, this book also haves a good twist on fantasy and romance ! Both protagonists are very human and had such a deep connection than grows along the book. Love this one !

I loved the use of magic in this universe and how the characters dealt with the world. Becca C. Smith has a great writing style and it does everything that I was looking for. I was hooked from the first page and thought it had a great fantasy elements going on. I look forward to more from Becca C. Smith.

"A light click of the door closing ended the only interaction Wren was going to get from her father for the morning. It was more than she normally got. And at least he hadn’t noticed the missing truck in the backyard, although a small part of her wanted to see if it might jolt him out of his self-made coma. It didn’t look like that would be today."
