Shadows at Dusk is a great follow up novel to the first of the Missing in Alaska series. I loved the setting of Alaska and the two main characters. They had wonderful chemistry and the build up to a relationship between them was written well. The suspense was high at all times and I had difficulty putting it down because I wanted to find out what happened next.
Shadows at Dusk delivered everything I love in romantic suspense. A thrilling tale from beginning to end.
How refreshing to have a heroine who is flawed like the rest of us. Carrie might not be physically perfect yet she’s a confident pilot who grabbed Trevor’s attention from the start.
Trevor’s protective instincts are front and center as he and Carrie team up to figure out who killed her father figure, Isaac, and find out what happened to Trevor’s sister.
They’ve both been burned by love and have trouble trusting others. But with God’s help they might just survive the danger they find themselves in and take a chance on each other.
This book was perfectly paced and I found myself reluctant to put it down. The main characters grabbed my interest from page one. The side characters were each unique and added an interesting element to the story. I highly recommend it.
I received a copy courtesy of Revell. This is my honest opinion of the book.
Another great book by Elizabeth Goddard. Shadows at Dusk reeled me in from the first page. The book is second in the Missing in Alaska series but is easily read as a stand-alone story--although it was good to see Police Chief Autumn Long again! The story is ripe with tension that had me holding my breath, suspense, and emotion. The main characters were portrayed as authentic individuals who are working through intense situations in their lives. Vivid descriptions of Alaska brought a lot of interest to the book. Readers who enjoy mystery and suspense will not want to miss Shadows at Down. I read a complimentary copy of the book and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.
Missing in Alaska book #2
Detective Trevor West’s sister went missing in Alaska a year ago and he is desperate to finding her. She left a few photographs as clue to her whereabouts and needs the help of an experience pilot to track her down. The best resource is Carrie James who knows the area like the palm of her hand. ....and the adventure begins.
I received this Arc from the publisher Revell via Netgalley for my thoughts and I am glad to share them with you. Ms. Goddard is one of the authors I like to follow. .She writes with a steady hand and knows how to spin an interesting tale filled with suspense and thrills. Along the way a bit of love attraction never hurts and she does that with aplomb and taste. The dynamic between the main characters is cute and well-done. I really like how Carrie and Trevor interact. The suspense doesn’t stay to one case, Carrie has her own agenda, she needs to find who may have killed her closest friend and bring the killer to justice. As the two close in on the answers...they face dangers and connections they could not have imagined. What a wild ride we are into flying the sky of Alaska while moments later we are deep into caves with crumbling walls and miners (bad guys) plotting to blow up the shafts and the whole mining camp. The action is so exciting...I couldn’t help but flip the pages furiously (Ok, a bit heavy). Ms. Goddard vivid and colourful words bring her stories to life and make them believable.
This enjoyable story is a blend of suspense, faith, adventure, danger and romance.
I started reading Shadows at Dusk and I thought some of the characters sounded familiar. When I requested it from NetGalley, how did I miss that this is book two? I didn't notice because I will read anything Elizabeth Goddard writes. She's a great author! Even though this is second in a series, it does well as a stand alone novel.
Carrie James is carrying a lot of baggage. Literally and figuratively. She is content in her job as a delivery pilot in remote Alaska. But her world is shaken up when a handsome detective from Montana arrives looking for his missing sister. Trevor West hears that Carrie James is the best person to help his follow his sister's footsteps before she disappeared. He has some photographs from his sister that Carrie can identify from the air. But someone does not want Trevor and Carrie to dig up the past. As the threats mount and the danger increases, can Carrie and Trevor find his lost sister and stop whatever evil is growing right under them?
I found Shadows at Dusk to be a roller coaster ride! It has all the right ingredients for a great story: exciting plot line, likable characters, light romance, and trust in God. If you read Shadows at Dusk you will not be disappointed!
"When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour.."
Isaiah 43:2-3 KJV
This book was absolutely brilliant!
I seriously loved the previous book, "Cold Light of Day", but this book is even better if that's possible!
The story was a complex one, with lots of twists and turns, red herrings and few clues as to who was the true culprit. It constantly kept me guessing, and I so appreciate that in a story. The romance was sweet, clean and well-written, and the final scene was so satisfying!
Kudos to the author on a great book, I can't wait to read the next one!!
Thanks to the publisher and author for the complimentary paperback I recieved to review courtesy of Library Thing's Early Reviewers program. Thanks also to the publisher for the complimentary e-book I recieved and reviewed through Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review but it was my pleasure to. The thoughts above are my own.
Shadows at Dusk by Elizabeth Goddard took a while for me to get into. Right from the beginning, there was a high octane moment, but then when the story moved into Alaska, it took a little bit of time to dive into the actual story. A lot of flying over places. Questioning locals with the image of Jennifer in Trevor's pocket. While the heroine and hero expressed they were falling in love, I, personally, had a really hard time buying it. Yes, they had a past, but then they wanted to trust each other and fell in love way too quickly. Personally, if I was running for my life, I would not stop think of my feelings for this other person were real or not. As for the plot, it was okay. Not really that exciting until the characters landed on Jacob's Mountain. I did find it odd that as they were searching for answers people would come out of the woodwork and hit them, sabotage their plane, and simple things to keep them from looking. Because not even the characters knew what they were looking for. Pictures that Jennifer left were the only clue, but they honestly were not clues, in my book. Overall, Shadows at Dusk by Elizabeth Goddard needed more depth to the plot and the suspense element. I found the romance unbelievable too.
I received a complimentary copy of Shadows at Dusk by Elizabeth Goddard from Revell Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
"Shadows at Dusk" by Elizabeth Goddard started with a bang! This book really grabs your attention and keeps you guessing all the way through! There is a twist at the end that I never saw coming! I highly recommend this book if you like a good, clean, suspenseful read.
I received an ARC of this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest opinion.
This is the second book in the Missing in Alaska series by Elizabeth Goddard. Even though, I have not read the first book in the series, I do plan on buying it as soon as I can.
Trevor is in Alaska looking for his missing sister, Carrie is a pilot that flies him to remote locations for his search. The descriptions of Alaska brought the book alive. The fast paced adventure kept me reading late into the night.
The characters were well developed, as was the plot. I liked how the characters’ faith was an elemental part of the story.
4.5 stars
Elizabeth Goddard’s latest tales you for a ride!!
Carrie James is a bush pilot trying to escape her past. Trevor West is searching for answers. When their paths cross, two mysteries also collide and now they have to help each other solve these cases that mean so much to them.
I liked how Alaska is very much a character in this book. It’s portrayed with personality and dimension that’s super cool. Both MCs were well-done, though I did connect to Carrie more.
There were lots of surprises and twists that kept me guessing. I did feel like one or two things were left a little open-ended but nothing major that spiked my enjoyment of this book.
I have loved this entire series. It’s definitely worth the read. Highly recommended!
Detective Trevor West is in Alaska to find out what happened to his missing sister. He’s a former FBI agent who now makes his home in Montana. Trevor hires a pilot to help in his search, although he can’t stand flying.
Carrie James fled to Alaska to escape her past. Along with her partner, Carrie runs a piloting business. Trevor & Carrie will use photos his sister left for him to try and ascertain her last movements. Danger follows Trevor & Carrie. Someone doesn’t want them to discover the truth. Will they escape with their lives and discover the truth?
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Detective Trevor West is trying to learn what happened to his sister. She went missing in Alaska and he gets the help of Carrie who is a bush pilot. This is a mystery with some romance. And lots of twists and turns.
Alaska is the backdrop for this exciting novel. You get a real sense of the solitude that many experience in the vast Alaskan country. I found it very interesting that the main way to get supplies and to get from one place to another was by bush plane. The story was interesting and thrilling in many places. The characters are well developed and likable.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced reader copy for an honest review.
Carrie a love she had for this job bringing supplies into war torn countries that needed them. The man standing in front of her had been a love, he now chose for them and their future, he is saying.
Did he think she would go along, a push gave her the answer
A sister missing, new evidence of a key to a deposit box that had pictures of Alaska. A year missing could the brother Trevor now get answers.
Issac like a father to her, was almost like he was saying" caring for others, will help heal you". The beauty of Alaska, the vast wilderness one doesn't usually get a chance to see. It seemed so real of Alaska in this story, as was the love he had for his .sister. The dangers they encountered as they search, bringing their past out to be healed. The author excelled in bringing us a riveting story, and with good strong characters and their journey to healing and love
Given arc by.Net Galley and Revell for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
Wow! A thrilling and fast paced ride of mystery, intrigue, and adventure. This intense story is my new favorite suspense book of the year. It held the perfect balance of romance without being cheesy or overpowering. I absolutely recommend this and I’ll be rereading it for sure.
This book started out a little slow but as I kept reading it was hard to put down. I loved the characters who had strong personalities. I would definitely recommend ! Once started just keep reading
This is the first book by Elizabeth Goddard I've read and it's the second book in the Missing in Alaska series. But it can definitely be read as a standalone, and I strongly recommend it! I will be going back to read the first book in the series as well. Because this stole my attention from page one and had my complete focus all the way through. There were so many twists happening, I couldn't guess from one moment to the next what was going to happen.
Carrie and Trevor had serious chemistry happening and there was constant danger pushing the two of them together and continuing to ignite things between them. This book felt like I was reading the script and storyline of a high-octane action movie! The action and the romance were both central to the story and had me on the edge of my seat in anticipation. Not only did reading it have my adrenaline going, but there were plenty of times where I felt like my heart rate was through the roof! I can't recommend it enough! If you love drama, romance, action, suspense, unpredictable books, this one's for you.
A fast paced, suspense, and danger filled ride that will keep you reading long into the night! The second book in the series did not disappoint. Its gripping beginning keeps you captive until the very end. Heart pounding danger, unexpected twists, and romance make this an absolute thriller!
Detective Trevor West comes to Alaska to search for his missing sister. His path intersects with pilot Carrie Jones who came to Alaska to escape a dangerous past. Circumstances bring them to work together and find them constantly fighting danger at every turn. As they fight to stay in front of the danger, both must come to grips with pasts that haunt them.
Shadows at Dusk is an excellent addition to a thrilling series! Likable characters, creative storytelling, and a gorgeous setting combine to make this an unforgettable read. Anxiously awaiting the next release!
I was given a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are completely my own.
Shadows at Dusk starts out very intense and grabs the reader right away. There are so many suspenseful moments throughout the book as Carrie, an Alaskan bush pilot, helps Trevor, a detective from Montana, search for his missing sister. In exchange for her help, he promises to assist her and find her friend’s killer. I loved the development of the characters along with their relationship as they escaped so many dangerous moments. This is a great book with all the intensity of a good, suspenseful mystery with unexpected twists and turns. I highly recommend it and as always, look forward to Elizabeth Goddard’s next book!
The second in the "Missing in Alaska" series, I was expecting to already have met the sister of the main character in the previous book. I was wrong! Instead you are taken from an intial setting of Africia to the wilds of Alaska on the hunt for a missing sister.
This is a thriller, mystery and romance all rolled up into one. It can be read as a stand alone. The missing sister was a good plot device as that kept the action moving with a strong female character (typical of Elizabeth Goddard books).
I receive complimentary books for various sources including, Netgalley, Authors, and other such sources. I am not required to write a positive review and have not received compensation.
