Inheritance is a book with a world filled with luscious vistas and deep characters. This is the first Nora Roberts book that I’ve read and I could kick myself for never having done so before. My typical genre is Paranormal Romance and this book slides right in. I am definitely a Nora Roberts fan now. I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.

Thank you for the advanced reader copy from Netgalley!
This was my first Nora Roberts book and I really am liking this series. I received the first two books as I've answered your copies and I'm liking the romance ghost story. I'm looking forward to the third book and to check out more by her.

What do you get when you mix a crumbling mansion, a charming ghost dog, a legacy with a bite, and a woman discovering not only who she is, but where she belongs? You get Inheritance — Nora Roberts at her moody, magical best.

Sonya MacTavish didn’t expect to inherit a gothic manor in the Maine woods, nor the mysterious family secrets that came with it. She certainly didn’t plan on a paranormal roommate — or two. But the house has been waiting. The past has been whispering. And Sonya? She’s about to write her own chapter.

Roberts blends her trademark warmth and slow-burn romance with spectral echoes and creaking floors. It’s a cozy ghost story in the very best way — a little spooky, a little swoony, and utterly satisfying. The themes of found family, healing, and courage ring louder than the bumps in the night.

If you're craving a heroine who finds her strength while surrounded by secrets and spirits (and a love interest with just enough gruff charm to make your heart skip), Inheritance delivers. With style, suspense, and that signature Nora magic, it reminds us: sometimes, the home you inherit is the one your heart has been searching for all along.

The best historical/ghost story/drama filled book that I have read in a long time. It starts out with the base for the genealogical family tree. early last century. This family, the Poole's are huge, so big in fact that the bay Poole's Bay is named after them. They own half of the town too. There are several brides who have died in the "manor"

The story starts with Sonya and the big revelation that she isn't getting married. This part is a drama worth reading. Then her Dad is a twin and adopted out to 2 different families. Big big story and big family. This is a must read!

Somehow, I’ve managed to never read Nora Roberts before now. I know she’s been a staple in the book world for my entire life, but I wasn’t sure if she was for me. I gave it a chance with this book, and I’m glad I did. Inheritance is the first book in The Lost Bride trilogy. It sets up for an intriguing series. At first, I thought the premise sounded like something I’ve heard before, but it was well written and intriguing. The characters had a good amount of depth, and the dialogue was realistic. I was lucky enough to be able to listen and read this at the same time, which is my favorite way to consume a book. What I found lacking was the unoriginal premise. The audiobook is very well done, and the narrator fits the part perfectly. The story overall was great and I’m looking forward to continuing the trilogy. I highly recommend this book.

Thank you, NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for allowing me to read this book. I am writing this review based on my own opinion.

The prolific author, Nora Roberts, has crafted another exciting trilogy that pulls you in and doesn't let go. Boston born and bred Sonja McTavish discovers her fiancé and her cousin in bed together. This precipitates major changes in Sonja's life both personally and professionally. When a lawyer visits and she discovers that she's the sole inheritor of a huge manor house in the small town of Poole's Bay, Maine, it's an opportunity to start afresh. Making the move, Sonja also discovers there are ghosts and a resident evil witch spirit in the house. Added by her best friend, Cleo, and a new set of friends and neighbors, Sonja begins her journey as the catalyst to clean house of the evil spirit. I read this straight through and enjoyed it and the next book so much that I've advance ordered the third in the series (Fall 2025 publication).

Inheritance delivers a compelling gothic mystery that hooked me from the start. A family curse targeting brides spanning centuries, centered around a beautifully atmospheric Victorian manor on the Maine coast. Roberts creates a wonderfully spooky yet cozy mystery atmosphere with the haunted house elements, and I loved how the supernatural aspects felt integral to the story rather than just thrown in for effect.

The way Roberts reveals the historical tragedy through Sonya's dreams works really well - it feels more organic than traditional flashback chapters and adds to the eerie, supernatural atmosphere of the house drawing her into its past.

My main complaint is that there was quite a bit of focus on Sonya's work as a graphic designer and the marketing/business side of things, which felt like it slowed down the pacing when I just wanted to get back to the ghostly mystery and family curse. Those sections didn't add much to the gothic atmosphere I was there for.

Overall, a solid start to what promises to be an intriguing trilogy. The combination of family secrets, supernatural elements, and cozy mystery vibes makes for an engaging read. I feel emotionally invested in all of the characters, and I've already started book two!

Thank you to NetGalley & St. Martins Press for the ARC!

This quite the story! Has a bit of everything; family, cheating, and maybe a love story? How can you go wrong? Will have to finish what I started!

The intriguing prologue of this book opens in 1806, featuring the tragic tale of Astrid Poole, a new bride who is brutally murdered in her wedding gown, her wedding ring callously removed by a vindictive killer. This gripping start set my expectations high for an exciting story as I turned the pages.
The narrative swiftly transitions to the present, introducing Sonya MacTavish, the sole heir to the lavish Victorian manor of Collin Poole, perched on the scenic coast of Maine. Sonya discovers that Collin was her late adopted father's twin brother, a fact unknown to anyone, including her father. The will stipulates that Sonya must reside in the manor for a designated period, providing her with a timely escape after recently breaking off her engagement and resigning from her job as a graphic designer to start her own home-based business.
While this premise had the potential to be a delightful and engaging story, it unfortunately moved at a sluggish pace. It soon became evident that the manor was haunted by the spirits of nearly every young woman who had lived there over the centuries. Unexplained occurrences, such as ringing doorbells, gusty winds, and inexplicably completed chores, became the norm. Even Sonya found her outfits mysteriously chosen and laid out on her bed. I felt that the notion of ghostly voyeurs was overdone, and I found myself skimming through the pages, hoping it would get better. Towards the end it did seem to take on more substance, however, then it unexpectedly just ended.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All comments and opinions are my own.

This book is the first of three. I kept reading until I finished it, I couldn't put it down. I love books by Nora Roberts, but this one feels a little different and it ends like a slamming of a door. I quickly grabbed the second book to continue the story. I was given a preview copy, but I still enjoyed it. I can't wait for this to come out in paperback so that I can continue with my collection and finish the third book and thus the story.

Inheritance tells the story of Sonya, who had just dumped her cheating fiance and called off her wedding when she learned that she inherited a beautiful old mansion overlooking Poole's Bay in Maine from an uncle she did not even know existed. The kicker is that the mansion is haunted by various ghosts - most are friendly/helpful but one is an evil witch and not happy about Sonya living in the home. There is way more paranormal stuff going on in this story but it would be hard to describe without giving away some major plot lines. I was lucky enough to be offered both the audio and ebook copy of this book by NetGalley and enjoyed going back and forth between the audio (in my car) and the ebook at home. The writing is very easy to read and the characters are likeable - my only complaint was that the book ended on a real cliff hanger so now I need to read the next book in the trilogy, The Mirror, to get the answers I need about what really happened at the end of this book. For the audio, the narrator's voice was just perfect. I love the Southern drawl of best friend Cleo's voice! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC and audio of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

I have always loved the authors books, but must confess I hadn’t read one in awhile, so the opportunity to ready this book was a real treat.

The story starts like many do, girl comes home unexpectedly and find fiancé in bed with someone else. Then things get interesting, she ends up leaving her job, but gets a visit from a lawyer. Then things get lawyer represents a relative she never knew about. As the title suggests, she was left an inheritance. Like all good inheritances, there are strings attached and she has to go to see what she inherited.

Now the story really starts, interesting characters, strange situations, a wicked witch and a whole collection of past and present inhabitants. I would love a Molly and Clover in my life.

This is book one of a three book set, and I started that as soon as I finished this one.

Oh my this book is so good! The story of the Inheritance would stand on it's own without the absolutely lovely romance plot adding so much to it! The characters are absolute individuals who I definitely want to know better, and the house is an entire individual all on its own. I think my only regret is that there isn't a copy of the family tree for me to refer back to, especially with that family's love of alliterative names!

Do be warned it's most definitely part 1, ending on a cliffhanger. I read the entire thing in one day, it's absolutely captivating, and I refuse to open book 2 until book 3 comes out!

Okay, so our heroine is probably the luckiest person on the planet. Inherit huge mansion just when you need a fresh start? Check. have the best and most supportive family and friends (even the dog, a rescue, requires no training) ever? Check. Restart your career on an absolute whim and have everything line up so perfectly it's borderline silly? Check. But, I mean, it isn't like she's ungrateful.

“I am a bride. I am a wife. It thrills me to know my life begins today, as I am no longer Astrid Grandville. I am Mrs. Collin Poole.”
“Find the rings. You’re the last who can.”

Wow! This book was a super addictive, twisty, suspenseful, haunting roller coaster ride of emotion! I loved every second of it. Inheritance truly encompasses everything I look for when I read a Nora Roberts book. There are amazingly strong characters, supportive friends and family, a fully immersive setting. I love the relationship between Sonya and Trey and am really wanting to see more between Cleo and Owen. I want to live in this house!! I could do without the murdery witch ghost, I’ll be honest but the rest of them seem amazing. I could definitely handle a house that gets cleaned by a ghost maid. I am very much looking forward to getting more answers about the family and why Sonya’s dad and uncle never knew about each other. There are so many unanswered questions!!!

I really enjoyed this book, it drew me in right from the start. I finished it in about 24 hours. Now I need to read the next book in the series. The third book comes out later this year.

I would call it fantasy light. There are ghosts and maybe a witch, but set in reality.

I like the friendship between the two women. And the protagonist and love interest did not jump into boxed together after knowing each other for five minutes.

There were curse words, and a little spice.

Trigger warning: there is mention of Domestic abuse and her fiancee cheats on her early in the book.

I really adored this. The characters were all relatable and the dialogue flowed, as always. I loved the setting and the idea of the old haunted house. I love a ghost who can communicate and using music was great. I loved the playlist!
