The second half of the book was really good. The first half was setting it up. The ending was a great cliffhanger

Oh my, what a great story. Nora Roberts knows how to pull her readers into the tale from the first page.

I love the present-day characters. Sonya MacTavish is a courageous woman. I love how she deals with finding her fiancé in bed with her cousin. She takes the high road, but the ex and co-worker is a jerk and tries to make her look bad. Sonya decides to have a trial stay at the home her uncle left her in his will. As soon as she moves in, she encounters ghosts from generations past.

Cleo is Sonya's best friend. She is the best friend we all want and need. Cleo is another strong, independent woman. It is impressive how she builds Sonya up and supports her whenever she needs it. She also has a "white" witch in her Louisiana family. Connections are always positive.

Oliver "Trey" Doyle is the son of the lawyer representing Colin Poole's (uncle) estate. There is an immediate connection with Sonya, but it isn't acted on immediately. Trey is concerned that he might move too quickly after Sonya's breakup. However, he is very familiar with the house and the ghosts that haunt it. His connection brings him to the Manor whenever Sonya has questions.

The manor ghosts are interesting. They are all women who died young. They are sweet and welcoming to Sonya, except for one. Hester is the evil witch ghost who adds suspense and villainous vibes to the story. She is so hateful I can't wait to see what else she has up her sleeves in the future.

I could not put the book down. I knew each page could introduce harm to Sonya, and I worried each time Hester Dobbs made her presence known. I love the way Nora develops her characters, especially the women. Inheritance is an entertaining nail-biter. Nora makes the story amusing, atmospheric, and thoroughly entertaining from start to finish. Now I need the next book to see what else will happen at the Manor and see if more sparks fly for other characters in the story. I'm so grateful that Nora Roberts is a prolific writer. I am confident that she won't make me wait long.

After, probably thankfully, discovering her fiancée has been cheating on her, Sonya MacTavish is thrown for another loop when she finds out her father had a twin brother he never knew about. Not only that, but her newly discovered uncle, Collin Poole, has left her everything in his will including the Poole family house - a beautiful Victorian manor on the coast of Maine. With her life already turned upside down by the cancellation of her impending wedding, Sonya takes this as an opportunity for a much needed change and to learn more about the family she never knew she had.

However, there's a catch. Sonya must live in the house for three years which may be difficult considering the house has some very interesting inhabitants. Namely, former generations of Poole brides who have all met a tragic death. Luckily, Sonya is not completely on her own. Her best friend Cleo and local lawyer (and Poole family friend) Trey are close at hand to help Sonya unravel the mysterious curse of the Lost Brides.

It's almost silly to review a Nora Roberts book at this point. Lady knows what she's doing with a story and even if some of the storylines feel repetitive to her previous books it's the fact that she's written so many and, truly, there are only so many tropes to go around.

Inheritance follows in the same vein of other newer Nora Roberts trilogies in that there's some kind of supernatural aspect running throughout. This time it's ghosts. Specifically ghosts of the cursed brides of the Poole family. I do like the idea of a haunted house and that house being haunted by the family that came before. If you think about it, aren't all houses haunted? If not literally then figuratively by everything - and everyone - that came before. It makes the title of the book "Inheritance" all the more relevant. Whether you believe it or not, the spaces that we inhabit as our homes have history - sometimes joyful, sometimes not - and those things carry.

I liked the premise and I thought that the supernatural aspect was full of just enough chills. It is a very slow and methodical build, however. I'd say this is mostly a set-up book. I'm hoping in the next ones we'll see a bit more action and forward momentum. I did like learning about all the twists and turns of the manor and getting a lot of good background information, but now I'm ready to really dig into the story especially with that very tantalizing ending.

Overall, another entertaining read in the Nora Roberts oeuvre. I think Nora Roberts is a great author in that you can pick up any book or start to a series from her and you are guaranteed that you'll enjoy the read even if this is the first book you've ever read from her.

It's been a while since I've read anything by Nora. This one sounded good, and I knew I had to try it. I'm so glad I did because I totally ate up this story. I couldn't put it down and when I was made to, I got a bit pissed off. How dare the world interfere with my reading? As the book ending my thoughts were, "what the hell, a cliffhanger?" Yep, it ends in a cliffhanger. I have to be honest here if I'd had known that I would have waiting for all three books to come out and read them as one.

Since I didn't know that I'm going to warn you. Yep, the story rocks but leaving so you are hanging and let me tell you I was so invested in the story that at 1:30 in the morning I wanted to yell out loud. I wasn't used to Nora leaving us with a cliffhanger ending but like I mentioned I haven't read her in a bit. So go into this story with knowledge.

I totally love the characters in the story. Other than the boyfriend in the beginning everyone is enjoyable. Most of the story is told through Soyna's POV. You have a bit of the other characters but not much. It works because of the fact that almost everything happens to her. I will say if the balance of the romance was there, I might have been a bit hesitant to love it, I would have only liked it a lot. But there is a good romance story in here, in fact, there is more than one.

As I mentioned you'll love the characters and how they all interact with each other, and the biggest thrill is the ghosts. Yep, you heard me right, ghost. They are just as much a main character as the rest of them. You will really enjoy them and want the characters to interact with them. I loved getting to know the history of Sonya's family. I was also glad that at least one of her cousins decided to be there for her.

They only thing that makes me feel like I've read too many romance books is the fact that I really thought the ex would show up knowing for when he finds out about all that she now has. He seems the type. But again, since it's a cliffhanger who knows those feelings, I was having could happen. I will say I'm not sure that when the next book comes out, I'll rush to read it, or I'll wait till the last book in the trilogy is out to read them together. It's all a dilemma for now. As of right now this book is taking up a lot of my thoughts. Don't you just love that in a book. I know I should go into more that happened in the book to give you a full review on this story, but I want you to experience it for yourself. Believe me the story will be much better for it.

Well. Wow. I was blown away by this book. I don’t ordinarily read Nora Roberts, but I think that’s about to change. Everything was wonderful about this book. The story, the setting, the character development, the spooky ghosts, and the characters were all intriguing and pulled me straight into the story. This is book one of a trilogy and the only complaint I have was the cliffhanger ending. How will I wait for the next two books?

So, I am going to be honest I had never previously read a Nora Roberts book before reading this title. I know she is incredibly popular and an author that our patrons flock to every time she releases a new book. Therefore, I figured it was about time that I read one of her books to see why she has such a following, and I have to say I get it. This book has lovely characters, a great plot line that is fast paced, and it leaves you wanting more. I cannot wait till the next book comes out. I am excited to see what happens Sonya. I loved everything about this book, from the main characters, to how the haunts are portrayed. I know that this book will not necessarily need a lot of talking up to fly off our shelves, but I am still looking forward to recommending it and discussing it with patrons.
Thank you so much to St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy of this title.

Wow! Nora Roberts knocked this one out of the park. The only disappointment was, the book, not being longer. I was not ready for the story to end. I have always had a love/hate relationship with Nora's trilogies. I absolutely freaking love them, but hate waiting for the next book. Most of her trilogies have fantasy/magic woven into them. Her stand alone books usually don't, so if you love that sort of thing, give this book a read.

Thank you to NetGalley, Nora Roberts and St Martin's Press for the opportunity to read this ARC.

I'm a little late to the party when it comes to reading Nora Roberts and believe me when I tell you, I'm kicking myself for not checking out her books sooner.

Inheritance is a thrilling, gothic story filled with tragedy, lost love, and of course, romance. Mixing historical and contemporary fiction, I could not put this story down as it left me utterly captivated. The writing and characters capture your interest from the very first page and before you know it, you will be swept up in one unforgettable story.

I think Inheritance starts the Lost Bride Trilogy off with one heck of a bang and I can't wait to find out what will happen next!

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I finished this book a week ago and I am still reeling. It has been a long while since I've read a Nora Roberts book, but wow, just wow. Nora Roberts is damn good writer.

I'd like to start off with the bad, because the bad is in the beginning and then I can gush about the rest of the book. So here's my issue- I don't see what the beginning of the book brings to the rest of the story. And I do mean the very beginning, as in the first two-three chapters. It was such a dramatic, shocking event that I felt like it was going to be this major thing in the character's life. Aside from one outburst towards the end of the book, it never really came up and it did not affect anything as far as I could tell. This was very annoying to me as I felt that there were a hundred different ways to cause upheaval in the characters life that would fit better. Okay, that is all.

On to the gushing. I absolutely fell in love with this story once our FMC Sonya moves to the Lost Bride Manor that is full of hauntings. Some good and some malevolent, the odd occurrences would be enough to send me screaming and running. However, Sonya is made of stronger stuff and harbors a deep desire to learn more about the lost brides and even her own family history.

While many of the scenes were sad, the dreams and visions of the past were also some of the most interesting, and seeing how they manifested in their next "life" as spirits was at times funny and other times thought-provoking. After all, one of the biggest questions of life is what happens after it ends? And if you couldn't past on, how would you handle it. This line of questioning isn't explored much in the novel, but it got me thinking.

Now we all know that Roberts is well known for her romances and this is no exception. As far as romances go this was a slow simmering romance, but it was sweet to watch unfold. Especially with multiple POVs so we got full access as these characters fell for each other.

The setting is atmospheric, and Roberts weaves a stunning vision of a gorgeous manor, seaside village, and details that made me feel as though I were there. The characters were great, even the adorable four-legged ones! A few side characters could've used a little more fleshing out. I'm hoping this will happen in the next book.

And there absolutely will be a next book. I am hanging over a really big cliff right now and I am not happy about it. Major jaw drop when I hit the end and realized that it'll be over a year before I know what happens next!

This book was so good! It is the first in a new trilogy. I just loved the characters, their chemistry was great. While a lot of the story is leading up to future books, it just leaves you wanting more. I can't wait to read the next addition in this series! I would highly recommend.

This is the first book in The Lost Bride Trilogy and I am hooked! Sonya inherits a hunted house from a relative her family knew nothing about. A wicked woman haunts the house killing a bride every decade and taking their wedding rings. If Sonya can find the seven lost rings she can break the family curse. The hot lawyer Trey offers to help her and they can not help but get involved with each other. The book leaves off with a cliff hangar which just wants you to get the next in the series when it comes out. I received an ARC from NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for my honest review.

If you can’t stand a cliffhanger, wait until the series is complete before reading. But don’t miss out on this. I have no idea what I’ll do while waiting for the next book. Perhaps dream of Sonya and Trey and The Manor. So much light to this story to balance out the dark and mysterious. And the ending!?! Ooh, I can’t wait to see what happens next!

This was not good. The beginning was interesting and it just got more and more boring. Can Roberts still spin a tale, yes. But this was just not it. It reminded me a lot of her "In the Garden" trilogy, mixed with a bit of "Inn Boonsboro" trilogy. I don't mind the magical realism she does, but I think the ending with the whole [redacted] just does not cause me to want to read more of this.

"Inheritance" starts off with 28 year old Sonya MacTavish thinking about how in a few short weeks she is going to be getting married. I don't want to do spoilers in this review. But things occur and then Sonya finds out that she inherited a mansion in Maine from her late father's twin brother (that he never knew he had). There's a lot of convoluted explanation about this, but just go with it. Sonya decides to make a fresh start in Maine at the mansion and finds out that it comes with a history and several ghosts.

The writing was okay, but after a while I just did not care about the plot. We keep getting thrust back into past timelines with a "bride" and how she's killed by someone/something. The first book is just Sonya and her best friend Cleo trying to figure out how the brides died and why. And then some very lukewarm romantic interests that pop in the story.

The flow was just pretty awful. After a while it just felt painful. I wish that Roberts had a left a few "brides" story on the cutting room floor. Also I just did not buy the romance between Sony and [redacted]. There was no heat there at all. I just felt like after a while I was reading a very boring romantic mystery/thriller/etc. that wasn't giving me enough romance.

The first book ends on a cliffhanger. If you get aggravated by reading cliffhangers. I say just borrow this from a library and or wait until book two comes out so that you can read them back to back maybe.

Oh my goodness!! How am I going to wait until next year to find out what happens next? This was an awesome story that builds and builds as the story progresses. Sonya MacTavish finds out that her father had a twin brother no one knew about and she is left his estate, a haunted mansion in Maine. 7 generations of brides in the Poole family have died on their wedding night or within the first year of marriage. All of their wedding rings were taken and Sonya needs to find them to break the curse that revolves around the manor. I absolutely CANNOT wait to read the next book!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This review is based on an ARC from NetGalley, courtesy of the publisher.

I love a Nora Roberts trilogy, and the guest book of this one sucked me in immediately! Sonya and Cleo are such strong female characters - and so are several of the lost brides. :) And Trey...I love him. I wish I could see the beautiful manor, but I feel like I can from the descriptions. I wasn't ready for this one to end, and can't wait to read the next one to find out what happens next with this group of great characters!

I hate to say it but I have to. This is the third recent Nora Roberts release that’s just too long.

It’s like this. I’ve read almost everything this woman has written in the last three years and loved most of it. Because her books were cute and short and hit the spot.

But now it just feels like they’re being released before few more rounds of editing. So many scenes are just so similar. And the romance? The main character just become old married couples way too quickly.

And now that I know that this trilogy is not a book a couple, I’m curious to see how it will unfold

Inheritance is the first book in the Lost Bride Trilogy and yes you'll end on a cliffhanger so be prepared. Even though the story is not complete I still feel satisfied by the way the author ended and felt the book was well rounded. This is trilogy has that classic Nora Roberts feel, kind of reminds me of the Guardians trilogy or the Donovan Legacy, a little magic, wonder, friendships, family and romance. You get pulled into the story from page one and feel sad when you hit that final page. The characters have a likeable, fun quality, each different in their own way and the author does a wonderful job describing them you can't help but feel like you know them. I can't wait for book two.

I’ve gone back and forth on how to rate this book. It’s the first book in a trilogy, so naturally there should be some amount of cliffhanger at the end, but this was more like ALL cliffhanger, with no resolution to speak of- which meant what had been a great story up until that point just felt completely unfinished. And now I have to wait an indeterminate amount of time to continue reading.

That said, I did love these well-drawn characters - especially Sonya and Cleo. Their friendship is the real star of the show here. I’m also curious where the ghostly mystery element to the story shall take us. I guess we’ll just have to stay tuned….

A nice start to a trilogy that sees Sonya's life turned upside-down at the start. Her fiance cheated on her and then she discovers that not only was her family larger than she knew, she's inherited a mansion. A haunted mansion. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This blends romance, the paranormal, and mystery into a highly readable book that will satisfy fans of Roberts.

I absolutely love Nora Robert’s books. I couldn’t put down her book “Inheritance”, Book number one of her Lost Bride Trilogy, a haunted manor in coastal Maine with Seven dead Brides. I don’t believe I have ever read a book that ended with a cliff-hanger. I am definitely interested in reading Book Two!
