Shin is definitely growing on me, this is the second book in this series I've read and I found it just as entertaining as the last one. One thing I've love about this series is that you don't necessarily need to read it in order to get a good feel for both the characters and the power dynamics at play between the individual clans. While it's certainly helpful of course Reynolds does an excellent job of filling in the backstories as it pertains to each book.

This particular volume was much more fast paced than the last one and we get swept up into the plot almost immediately and as with the last one given the sheer number of characters it was very difficult to figure out what was going on until almost the end. I also enjoyed that there is clearly an even bigger threat looming in the background of each of these books, someone from more sinister than the murderers we've met so far and I'm really looking forward to seeing how that plays out.

Overall, just a highly entertaining read with just enough complexity to keep your attention but not so much that the mystery becomes so confusing you end up getting bored.

I've been enjoying the way Josh Reynolds writes and his style works perfectly for Legend of the Five Rings series. It has a great story in this series, i was engaged with the storyline and how well it worked well in this series. I enjoyed the way the characters were created and it worked well overall. It left me wanting to read more in this series and from Josh Reynolds.

"And so?” Kasami snarled back. The two of them glared at one another once more, the air between them practically writhing with the promise of violence. Shin snapped his fan open and gave it a flourish, puncturing the tension. They both looked at him, somewhat shamefaced. Kasami felt annoyance at her own behavior."
