God, of course I loved this book. Alexis Hall can do no wrong. The premise did worry me somewhat, because amnesia seems like such a damn kooky premise. But true to form I absolutely, unrevokably fell in love with these two.
Sam is the manager of a bed and bath store. Jonathan is the owner of the chain. When Jonathan invites Sam to London for some remedial training and pushes Sam into a shower giving him a concussion, Sam fakes amnesia to save his and his team's jobs.
The book is full of hijinks, is laugh out loud hilarious and both Sam and Jonathan are just impossible not to fall in love with.
The absolute perfect Christmas read for 2023.

I loved Boyfriend Material and Husband Material. They are one of my favorite romances, so I was excited to read another book in this universe. To say that I was disappointed was an understatement.
Sam Becker is an incompetent manager. He doesn’t do anything when one worker keeps spilling tea on their sales merchandise, or another worker doesn’t think she should have to work. But he doesn’t like the worker that’s excited to work. Maybe this is a British thing of hating people who want to work. When his boss, Jonathan Frost, finally orders Sam to the company’s headquarters, he knows everyone will get fired because they deserve it. After an accident leaves Sam with a head injury, a misunderstanding leads Jonathan to believe Sam has amnesia. Sam continues the lie to see if he can change Jonathan to be as incompetent as Sam.
I hate Sam. Besides the incompetent boss part, he inserts himself into Jonathan’s relationship with his family. And it was hard to read any of those family scenes as warm because Sam constantly lies about having amnesia because he wants to change Jonathan into someone who won’t his store. The power imbalance is everywhere.
Jonathan’s character flaw is that he needs more tact when talking to people. But Sam thinks Jonathan is a horrible person because of the perceived coldness and develops feelings when he’s changed Jonathan enough. And Jonathan falls in love with a version of Sam that’s a big lie. He keeps heaping praise over how kind he perceives Sam, not knowing Sam uses him the whole time.
I thought better of Alexis Hall.

I didn't hate it since I was able to finish it quite easily. I just had very little investment in the story as it unfolded. So little that it took until the 65%ish mark to finally notice it's a story surrounding xmas. The dialogue has no spark. It's mainly just Sam and his coworkers (clowns) repeatedly calling Johnathan variations of a dick, dickhead and prick.
Johnathan is the stereotypical mean but misunderstood boss and Sam is the nice and quirky (if you can call him that) employee. The romance failed to convince me that they had any chemistry for it. They have as much tension as rubbing two milk cartons together. Just two boiled chicken breasts without even an ounce of a bouillon base. It was boring and had no real buildup. There’s more chemistry between me and the tortilla chips I had last week.
Here's the thing when it comes to the overall story: Sam just sucked. A full-blown insufferable loser who doesn't know when to mind his business. He’s incompetent and if I was his boss then I would’ve fired him too.
Thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for providing a copy for an honest review.

First of all, thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this ARC. While I didn't love this book as much as I loved Boyfriend Material or other Alexis Hall novels, there was a lot I did really like about the story. The story feels fresh and funny, but not in a way that feels like it's copying characters from his previous books. I really enjoyed the grumpy/sunshine and most of the side characters, even though there were a LOT of them. Actually, the plot was a real stand-out for me, and it kept me wanting to read more.
Where I struggled with this story was with the romance. This is a romance book, after all, and while these two did get together, I had a lot of trouble connecting their personalities. Jonathan would be WAY too much of a jerk, just way too heavy on the conflict, and when the author tried to show a softer side, it always felt like it came out of nowhere and it was out of place. There wasn't enough organic, "getting to know you" kinds of romance-building romances for me. The conflict parts felt like they went on for way too long, and I don't think I got as in depth with Jonathan as a character as I did with the ones in Boyfriend Material or other more successful Alexis Hall books.

This is fine. I generally liked it but I think I’m going to continue to distance myself from Alexis Hall’s work. Things that are meant to be funny are always edges with meanness. Characters are likable enough but not endearing. I feel no desire to reread this, the writing and author are just not for me anymore.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This wasn't my favorite. I mean, it has all my favorite things - grumpy/sunshine, fake amnesia, etc. But something about it just didn't click for me.

I wanted to love it- I really did.
What worked: large cast of smart, eclectic characters ,LGTBQ+ representation, humor and wit. Jonathan's family and Sam's coworkers were a hoot! SUPER Grumpy/sunshine, enemies to lovers, fake amnesia.
What didn't: There was a lot of wordy dialogue. So.much.talking. I love words and conversation, but it started to bog down the pacing. I also didn't buy into the romance.

A return to form from Alexis Hall's last novel.
This Christmas adjacent story hits all the best tropes and wraps up really well. I was a bit worried as I got closer to the end that there would be some shenanigans but it fleshed out pretty good and ended on a high note.
My only complaint is that the third act feels a bit rushed and it really doesnt appear until the last 20 minutes or so of the novel so you really dont get that big pay off moment most rom coms give.

Alexis Hall really nails this kind of book. If you liked Boyfriend Material and Husband Material then you will love 10 THINGS THAT NEVER HAPPENED. This book has incredible charm, snort-laughs, found family, quirky and lovable side characters, and main characters that are perfectly flawed.
Sam and Jonathan are grumpy+sunshine magic. I absolutely adored them both and was insanely invested in their love story. Both of these characters change and grow during this book and I just fell in love with them.
I listened to the audio version of 10 THINGS THAT NEVER HAPPENED and it was perfect. The narrator added so much humor and feeling to the story. I recommend listening to the audio version of this book even if you are not usually a fan of audiobooks. This narration is so good!
This book is pretty slow-moving. I find that most Brit-Lit books have a slower pace than similar American books. Again, this is on par with Boyfriend Material by the same author.
10 THINGS THAT NEVER HAPPENED is filled with holiday magic, a sweet story, laughs, and romance. It's a must-read (or a must-listen) this year!

I love all of Alexis hall’s books. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but this one of was one of the best. Laugh out loud funny, absolutely worth reading.

I had such a hard time loving this romance, I couldn’t buy their connection because one of the main love interests was just such a jerk.

I just love Alexis Hall’s slightly ADHD characters so much. This one did not disappoint with a cute story premise and a very grumpy grump character.
So cute and cozy with lots of witty banter.

Thank you so much to Sourcebooks Casa, Netgalley, and Libro.fm for providing advanced copies of this! All thoughts and opinions are still my own.
Every time I pick up an Alexis Hall book I know I'm in for a great time. And this was no exception. His books are always hilarious and sweet and wholly endearing.
This was a really fun, laugh out loud funny romance between two polar opposite heroes, caught in a ridiculous lie. I love a cheesy amnesia plot so I was on board from the very beginning. I thought their banter was fantastic and Sam's coworkers were absolutely hilarious.
The audio was fantastically narrated, the characters were chaotic but endearing, and I enjoyed my time from start to finish.
I just don't think these two are forever 😅 Some books leave me feeling like the main characters are soulmates. That was not the case here lol. While I loved them both individually, I never completely got on board with them as a forever kind of couple.
Boyfriend Material is still my favorite of this series/world but this was a fantastic addition. And I'm so excited that we're getting even more!

DNFing. I thought maybe I could read another Alexis Hall book after DNFing a few but the writing is just soooooo long and languid and the style just isn’t for me. I can’t bring myself to care about or connect with any character. Thanks anyway for the ARC.

Alexis Hall never disappoints and this book was no exception. I absolutely adored Sam and being roped into his shenanigans. Alexis Hall brings his large cast conversations, witt, and his embarrassingly sweet and goofy moments to this book. I was absolutely smitten by these two and I can't wait for more.

This enemies to lovers story has a bit of everything, lots of bed and bath story lingo, a head injury, pretend amnesia, a grumpy cat, Christmas decor and of course some family trauma. The friendship and banter with Simon's co-workers was a lot of fun. This was definitely a slow burn, but a good read, very enjoyable.

LOVE Alexis Hall and this one was no different. Fun memory loss romance--who knew I would use that string of words! But Alexis Hall did it!

Not sure I've laughed that hard reading a book in a while. It also caught me in the feels a few times unexpectedly, but then again this is Alexis Hall so I should have expected that was a possibility.
The way Sam's opinion of Jonathan so very slowly changed, but not enough for him to not still be like, "okay, sometimes you're still a dick" was excellent. At first I thought some of it was being a bit dragged out but honestly, looking back, all the pieces kind of connected in a way that I'm not sure it would been good tightened up. Sometimes the family was a little... much, but honestly, it's family and that was the point.
I also listened to the audiobook (did not receive an ARC of that) and the narrator was brilliant.
All in all, very enjoyable. I do highly recommend the audiobook particularly, if you're an audiobook person. I would recommend.

I was so excited to read this book and it did not disappoint at all. If you’re a fan of romcoms, grumpy / sunshine, mm romance, opposite attract, single pov, faking amnesia, boss/ employee relationship and holiday theme, you will definitely enjoy this book.
The story is very well written with a great plot and different from the other books, Boyfriend/Husband material.
Overall, I really enjoyed everything about the story including the multiple side characters. I can’t wait to read the next book on this new series. I highly recommend it.

Alexis Hall knocks it out of the park yet again with a great queer romcom. There were a lot of characters and that did make it sometimes hard to follow, but everyone had their own distinct personality. It was a very fun (and funny) read like most of Hall's other works in this genre. The banter, as always, made the characters believable and fun to read.
