DNF, I chose this audio from NetGalley “listen now”, but now I understand why it falls into the “listen now” category.
I could only get to chapter 5, it was shallow, egotistical and honestly stupid. I didn’t care for the speaker, monotone and didn’t try to accommodate the different character voices. Trying to utilize audio as well as reading on my kindle but NetGalley does not have many choices for audio.

"Mallory Goes to Therapy" takes us on a wild ride into the mind of an egotistical misogynistic narcissist. Picture Andrew Tate's minion with an extra dose of self-obsession and a complete lack of self-awareness. If you're expecting a hilarious parody, prepare to be disappointed.

From the get-go, our narcissistic hero decides to embark on a therapeutic journey to win over a woman who suspects him of having an addiction to sex. Because, you know, that's definitely how you impress someone. The comedy, however, gets lost in translation, and the story meanders aimlessly without even a hint of character development.

Now, I must confess, I haven't read the first book in the series, and after enduring this mind-numbing sequel, I can't help but wonder if there was any character development to begin with. Mallory, our so-called protagonist, remains abhorrently awful throughout, making me question the author's intentions and the existence of a coherent plot.

To make matters worse, the audio narration was an absolute drag. I had to crank up the speed to 1.75x just to keep myself from dozing off. Even then, the book felt like an eternity, stretching on and on like a never-ending therapy session that refuses to provide any insights.

"Mallory Goes to Therapy" is a lackluster attempt at humor that falls flat on its face. The parody falls short, leaving us with a detestable main character, a plot that goes nowhere, and an audiobook that drains your patience faster than Mallory drains your will to live.

So unless you have a fetish for unlikable protagonists and enjoy torturing your eardrums with a monotonous narrator, steer clear of this disappointing sequel. Your time and sanity deserve better treatment than what Mallory and his therapy session can offer.

----------------

Edit : Ah, yes, amidst the sea of disappointment, there was a glimmer of hope in the form of a side story. The only saving grace of "Mallory Goes to Therapy" was the intriguing switch between Mallory's self-centered perspective and the woman he desperately desired. In these rare moments, the narrative sparked to life, offering a respite from Mallory's insufferable presence. The nice police officer (yes, you read that right) and his connection with the woman added a much-needed breath of fresh air to an otherwise stagnant storyline.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook, unfortunately this was just not for me. The narrator is boring and the main character is out right horrible.

I made it through chapter two before I gave up waiting for a funny part since it was listed as humor, instead all I got was the story of a man who is a compulsive lier and will do or say anything in order to convince a woman to sleep with him. Some of the lines in the book that Mallory says are straight racist even and that’s when I finally couldn’t believe what I was listening to.

5.3% in and I had to give up. I was bored and not at all enjoying it. I felt uncomfortable with the narrator and he made this book feel even less enjoyable.

Book: the tone of the book did not really really work for me as i was expecting a funnier installment or a more like able (or redeeming) main character. In spite of getting some momentum, not much changes in Mallory. His comments on gender/race/ sex are really unfortunate. Also disliked the attempt of romance from other characters prospective.

Audio: Enjoyed the narration, even though it was a bit confusing whenever the point of view swapped from Mallory as there was no indication or change of tone

Thank you to the author, publisher, narrator and Net Galley for providing a free e-audio version of this book in exchange for my review.

I had high hopes for this one, but it really didn't work for me, overall. Had it not been an audio version, I think I would have given up on it early on in the book. But as it was an audio, I just pushed on.
From the description, I expected it to be humorous but it just wasn't. It fell a little flat. I didn't care for the characters and some of the comments were just rude. Overall, very disappointing.

I can't think of anyone I would recommend this to. Maybe 1.5 stars, rounded down.

I have almost no words for this book. The main character is crude and the most unlikeable character I've ever come across. The way that he speaks (and thinks) about women is just disgusting. I don't even know what to say. Kevin Mallory is supposed to be going to therapy to work on his issues and yet he still just doesn't seem to grasp what a truly horrible person he is and the way he views other people who aren't "like" him. I'm so sorry to say this, because I can't imagine the work that goes into writing a book, and I appreciate authors and the entertainment they provide, but this is one of the worst books I've ever had the misfortune of reading.

Outside of the story itself, I found the narrator to be just so boring. It was dull and barely kept me entertained and invested.

The story was slow and I found it was a struggle to follow with the narrator, probably the voice, speed and intonation. I started to be distracted...

Unfortunately the characters and the story plot were not very pleasing and enjoyable, which I hate to say that. I did not find it humorous and funny. When I requested for this audio book, I was looking for something that will make me giggle or even just relax a bit, but not this book....

Thanks Netgalley for this audiobook to exchange my humble review,

I was just not a fan unfortunately. I didn't love the narration, I didn't like the writing style and I didn't enjoy the story. Thanks Netgalley for letting me give it a shot!

DNF - I quit a quarter of the way through the book.

I understand comedic parody, but I didn't find Mallory funny at all. And where is the humor in a woman passing out drunk on his special cognac at his house and waking up with her underwear missing? The caricature feels all too much like real dregs of humanity who pollute society, very real men who are insecure, toxic predators with whom some of us have had to do battle. I have a wicked sense of humor and would've laughed if it had been all about people getting revenge on this guy. Can we make him into a living voodoo victim? Perhaps that happens after hours of listening to his lies, manipulations, misogyny, and tone- deafness. I don't know or care. It wasn't worth the discomfort of finding out.

The narration left a lot to be desired. The pace was too slow, but even if I sped it up, words were distractingly mispronounced and the tone was too flat.

I never normally leave a review for books I regard as less than 3 stars, I’m leaving this one though. There’s not a thing wrong with the authors work, the writing is excellent actually. The storyline plausible and well thought out. The narration if a little slow for me (even when speed increased) was good too. The problem was Mallory. I despised him, I didn’t realise that this is the 2nd book based around the character, when I say I despised him, this would normally be a “what a brilliantly written character” moment, this didn’t work for Mallory I didn’t care if he done the work and redeemed himself or not. I very nearly DNF. It felt like a slog to read. I’d love to read other work by the author though, hence I felt it justifies having a review written. I do not for a second want to take away from the authors talent and reiterate the writing and the story are not the issue.

Thank you to NetGalley and Independent book publishers association for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook in return for an honest review.

DNF!
Dol narrator, Dol story, terrible main character.
I requested this book because it was in the humor and satire section. Needless to say, I don't get why it's there.
I didn't even finish the first chapter when I got bored of it. And when checking reviews for the same book the main consensus is terrible. So, after listening 8% of the book I'm giving up.

Mallory Goes to Therapy is a hard book for me to review. The narrator did an excellent job delivering the story in a deadpan tone, but the story itself, while at times hilarious, was often disturbing. This book is for readers who enjoy satirical talk about sexuality, racism, violence, and other sensitive topics.

I received a complimentary audio ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I only got 11% through the audiobook provided by netgalley when I realized the rest of the book was going to continue on like this. I did not read the first book so I can't speak to that. But this is awful. Mallory is scum. The synopsis made this book sound way better.

Narration was good. However, the book did not draw me in or hook me to want to read more. I was not aware that this was a sequel to another book when I read it. This book, unfortunately, did not hold my attention. There was a lot of explaining little nuances of everyday life, and the plot took too long to develop.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to review an advanced copy of this book.

I wanted to like this more than I did, but it was slow for me. I know that it was supposed to be humorous, but I did not think that it was.
I listened to this on audio, which helped. I do not think I would have finished if it were not on audio. Perhaps reading the first book
would have helped my enjoyment, but I did not know there was one. I gave this 2.5 stars, rounded up to 3.

Thank you Netgalley for the audio of this book

The story started off slow and the protagonist seemed like he would be a psychopath. Turns out he was a sex addict but a sort of bumbling character wanting to help people at the cable company he works for, in his own pompous way. He is hapless, spends beyond his means, his credit card are maxed out and he has no friends. Through the course of the story he makes friends with people he helps in the office when they realize he genuinely wants to help them in their different situations. He hits on the co-workers sister and the suggest he go to therapy. He agrees and they even take him to therapy and pick him up. He meets other characters at the group therapy session and he continues to act like a blowhard. He ends up endearing his friends to him when they realize he is harmless. His heart is in the right spot, he just goes about doing things differently than normal people would. He inadvertently brings people together, romantically and is happy for them. The book ends abruptly and I realized there is a second book that continues the story. Look forward to reading the second book. Did not like the audiobook narrator.

I picked up this book not knowing anything about it, so the fact that it wasn't a book for me is ultimately probably a fault of myself and not the book. I love stories of great personal growth, and while this book may have included that, I missed that this was the second book in a series and that the main character was lewd towards woman (which is why he's entering therapy for sex addiction) which seriously detracted enjoyment from the book. I didn't especially the narrator, either, although I respect they were trying to portray a difficult character, he was a bit too grating for my taste.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy.

Kevin Mallory appears to be a misogynistic, racist and delusional. However it doesn't take long to realise that he simply has no understanding of the world
Even if I ignore how horrible Mallory is, I have to note that the entire plot is based on an assumption that everyone in an entire company is too stupid to know how employee representation and labor laws work.
