Attracted to the description of this as “a sweeping historical epic of adventure on the high seas” I was disappointed to find out that most of this story does not take place at sea.

Many chapters are devoted to the background of the main characters detailing their families, how their paths cross and how they eventually end up on #TheGhostShip. The story is definitely sweeping in scope, covering many locations and involving a large cast of characters during an interesting period of history. However, this wasn’t the book I was expecting so the many subplots of the characters’ back stories seemed like barriers to what I thought would be the main story of an adventure at sea.

The story is well researched and written but the pace was far too slow for me.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #StMartinsPress for the ARC!

The Ghost Ship by Kate Mosse is an excellent historical fiction that is the third in the wonderful The Burning Chambers series.

I loved traveling back to the early parts of the 17th century. I learned so much about ships, seafaring, life, dangers, and the open seas during that time with this novel. I always love it when I cam learn something while I am being entertained.

While I read this book first in this series, I enjoyed it so much I have already purchased the first two and am awaiting their arrival. While I was easily able to get in the game jumping into the series with this book, I think I would have treasured it more if I would have had a bit of history built up first. Still, excellent.

Phenomenal!! Love this book. Louise and Gilles Barenton are amazing characters and had you hooked to their stories from the very beginning. The people they meet and the adventures they embark on will have you glued to the pages until the very end. Such wonderful drama and intrigue. Highly suggest this book to anyone who loves stories from this time period!

What a great adventure story. Great characters you care about. I can’t wait for the next book to continue the story.

The Ghost Ship by Kate Moss is a wonderful story of adventure, history in the 1600s and just plain good storytelling. Not having read any of the previous books about the Joubert family, I look forward to having something to go back to. The French, Dutch and Canary Islands location and all the things happening there in the 1600s makes for a very good read.

Privileged to have been granted the gift of reading this 1600 saga of survival as a female with skills and knowledge to oversee a ship in treacherous times. Unusual twist in this story that brings two women together to overcome extreme odds.
