First thought: I love relatable plus size FMC and Everly did not disappoint one bit. There are were alot of relatable moment especially her mom, I experienced a very similar relationship. Thanks for giving us a plus size girly we can get behind and for giving her a HEA.
Everly is a designer but is afraid to put herself out there, putting her art out there was vulnerable thing to do. She is obsessed with the reality show On the Plus Size, which is an 8 episode life makeover show. Someone had nominated her to be in the show and she was chosen, now she’s living her best and worst dream. She’s having to face who she is and who she wants to be. This show is a journey to the new Everly!
Logan is a grump in plaid behind the camera of this reality show. He is a man of little words except when it comes to sticking up for Everly, when she wasn’t portrayed the way she wanted to be. He is a giant softy that loves to adopt senior dogs and will be working to follow Everly around and film her non stop during her 8 episode stint on the reality show.
This is a fun ride as they film, and are forced to get to know each other. Everly is a walking hurricane around Logan, and he can’t help but starting to fall for her. Then Everly kisses him and runs away, this was suppose to be a makeover show not a dating journey.
This is a story about embracing who you are and finding self worth. It has the overwhelming message that you are BEAUTIFUL no matter what size and that winning in life isn’t about the size of your clothes but if you are confident in your own skin, healthy and happy.

On the plus side was a really cute read. I enjoyed this and the positive vibes it had.
I liked the happily ever ending it had. Thank you Netgalley and publishers for allowing the chance to read and review. This was a four star rating.
As a plus size woman, a book with a plus size leading lady will always be one of my favorites. This book had a bit of it all, humor, sadness, joy everything I love in a good book. Will definitely be reading more from this amazing Author!
I really liked this one! It was so great to see Everly, the MC, come into her own and learn to accept her body. We also stan a brooding love interest who thinks their girl is beautiful every step of the way! My one note is that a lot of the commentary felt more like author soapbox moments than part of Everly’s natural internal monologue, which was a bit distracting, but I’m sure it will work for some people. Overall, the author’s writing style is just so readable and fun.
I love seeing all sizes represented in books and it's become more and more popular. I love all Jenny Howe books and I can't wait for more. I really enjoyed reading about Everly and Colton.
LOVED this book. One of my favorite romances I’ve read in a while. The main character is relatable and fun. The dynamic between her and the love interest is real and exciting. The spice level of the book perfectly fits the vibe.
I feel refreshed in my "plus size" body after reading this book. The dynamic between Everly and Colton was interesting and I enjoyed reading about them.
I devoured this book!
The romance trope is what first intrigued me, but I loved reading this book.
This is one that I have recommended so many times, and I’ll continue to recommend it.
Please read it!
Thank you Jenny Howe, NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Everly recently has closed in on herself since the death of her grandmother. Someone nominates her for the show On The Plus Size. Everly is so excited to be on the show and is hoping to gain her confidence back. Everly quickly makes eyes with the camera man, Logan. Sadly, the shows producers are using Everly to get more views and rating causing Everly to hate the way she is being shown.
I enjoyed this book and loved the story arc of Everly and Logan.
I enjoyed this book about a plus size or fat girl who is earning back her confidence through the lens of a reality show. I did enjoy the reality show involvement in this book. I thought it was fun, and the internet posts made it seem real as well. It was a fun addition that moved the story along. While I have read Howe's previous book, this one was much more enjoyable. I found the character of Everly to be a bit more mature than the main character in her last book, and I appreciated her growth over the course of the show and the book. I appreciated the ending too, being more about Everly's growth than just about how the romance tied up. Overall, better than her debut and I look forward to reading more from this author. 3.5 stars.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions within this review are my own.
On the Plus Side has me on split sides to be completely honest.
I'm all for the plus size representation, especially when it has body positivity attached to it. But it seemed like either the author is working through her own hurdles or she's writing as a plus size person who doesn't really deal with things on a daily basis.
I love the idea of this story. A larger human on a reality show out for the whole world to see to figure out her life and let people see that bigger people are "just like them" is a great theme. I think at times this book harps too much on it, and waves it as a big bright red flag. That and the overbearing mother was a bit too on the nose, and I wanted more from her.
That said the romantic interest and the love story was delightful and overall this was a nice read. If you're a fan of reality shows in books and plus size representation, this book is for you.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy for my honest opinion.
On the Plus Side was an ok read. Everly grew and changed throughout the story. I felt that story was more on the empowerment of Everly and how she changed and became more comfortable with who she is, rather than the romance. I just didn't feel the chemistry between Everly and Logan.
Everly has loved the plus sized makeover show On The Plus Side forever. After the death of her beloved grandmother, she doesn’t feel that she has many people who get her just the way she is and has quieted her natural exuberance to fit in. When she is nominated for the show, she’s so excited to meet her heroes, but will they be able to coax Everly out of her self imposed shell?
What I loved:
-diverse bodies representation
-reality tv show setting
-complex family relationships
This was a really cute and fun read. I loved the open communication between characters and the way Everly stood up for her boundaries! However, the plot did at times feel repetitive and I would have loved to see more of Everly’s personal growth outside of her romantic relationships.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reading copy.
Everly is just too much, but in the best way possible, and I'm so glad she found a way back to being herself in this sweet and seemingly possible story. I adored the way the author wrote the FMC because holy moly - it felt real and relatable and maybe it's because I'm fat that I finally enjoyed reading about hardships from being fat, but also loved the really incredible, positive outcomes from just being who you are. I was also thankful for how the author wrote the ending. It was satisfying and reasonable and a little predictable but overall brought a lot more closure than I expected to get. I would recommend this book to others!
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
This book was so so good. I love the representation and the banter. Will def be reading another book by this author
Thank you, Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for the gifted e-book! ❤️ #gifted. My review is comprised of my honest thoughts.
I tried. I really tried. I have been trying to read this for months on and off. I just could not get into it. You may love it.
Everly’s dream is coming true. She’s just been chosen to be on her favorite makeover show, On the Plus Side; her crush at work is paying even more attention to her; and she’s starting to feel more confident already. As the production starts to unfold and she realizes her goals may be different than she thought, she finds an unlikely friendship with Logan, the show’s cameraman. Feelings for herself, and Logan, continue to evolve and develop among the challenges and hitches in the show’s production.
I really loved Everly’s representation. As a plus size woman, I really related to her complicated relationship with her mother, and her lack of confidence in putting herself out there. I also really liked that it wasn’t simply “hot guy pays attention to the fat girl.” There was a lot more to Logan than appearances, and he had his own self-conscious moments. I wish that a show like this existed for real!
Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for an advanced copy of this book!
This was such a huge improvement from the first book where I felt like I was being beat over the head with infodump. This is wonderfully crafted, complex, emotional, steamy, and most of all the characters were worth rooting for. Loved it.
2.5 ⭐️’s rounded up to 3
It was just a normal day at work for Everly when she is surprised by the hosts of her favorite show, On The Plus Side, to recruit her for the next season.
First off, I do want to say I loved the plus size representation and think the author did a great job writing it in such a positive light, whereas if it were written any differently it could’ve been triggering for some readers. However, I really struggled though this read because I had a hard time finding a reason to root for the main character, Everly. It was written in a way that made her dislikable and overly naive. Her confusion on why a reality tv show would edit the footage they acquire to fit their show’s needs made myself as the reader confused - as this was “her favorite show” and it is common knowledge that reality TV is edited..
There were two love interests - James and Logan - and I thought she lacked chemistry with both of them. I do wish there were more scenes between Everly and Logan because I could see how they could have chemistry if their relationship had been more developed! In fact, I felt there were too many plot points that really could’ve been narrowed down to have a better developed story.
Overall, I really do still recommend it as I think some readers may find it an appealing, cute and a fun read! Bonus - there’s a dog named bagel and a cat named cream cheese 😍
