OMG, I loved this book so much!
It was my first time reading a romantic suspense and this one is my absolute favourite.
Elijah is such a sweet character, I loved everything about him. I want one in my live. And I liked the fact that he was de sunshine and the way he took care of Autumn.
Autumn was such a strong character and I loved her development through the book, she was such a close person, living in her own bubble that she forgot how to live.
And the we get the suspense part where I was like WTF??? I thought I knew who was the person behind the roses, but the real culprit never crossed my mind, well done.

Thank you netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Spice: 🌶️

For the TL;DR go to the bottom

I found this arc in the “read now” section of NetGalley, so here are some of my thoughts!

I chose this book because I absolutely loved the cover and title! I may have been reminded of a certain vault song by the one and only T Swift, and I was totally influenced to read it because of that!

Autumn is an accomplished pianist who suffered in a terrible accident 10 years prior leaving her with chronic pain, grief, and anxiety. On her way to making her comeback to the stage, her life is thrown into chaos when Elijah moves into her house without her knowledge, and thus our enemies to lovers story begins.

Overall, the characters in this book were okay. For me, the standout was Autumn, which is great since the story is about her! I was so invested in her personal story about overcoming her injuries and coming back to play again. She has such strength and passion, and I was constantly rooting for her. Also, in one scene she was wearing a Reputation Tour shirt, and I felt that on a deep personal level because I’m pretty sure I was also wearing my tour shirt when reading that part.

However, everyone else was shady to me. Her best friend, the conductor’s assistant, and even our love interest, Elijah. I wasn’t vibing with any of the other characters, which is a shame since it was a romance book! I will say that my feelings towards the other characters started to make sense because there is an underlying mystery and suspense, so there has to be a villain here somewhere, but it still didn’t sit right with me.

Elijah eventually grew on me, but it took 70% of the book to get there. To be honest, Elijah was an a-hole in the beginning and not in a cute way. Banter is one thing, but being out right rude is another, and that’s what it felt like. All of his interactions with Autumn also felt very forced towards the beginning of the book. Imagine the worst roommate you could possibly have: eats your meal prepped food, moves your stuff out with no notice, paints common spaces with no permission, and even changing the locks without telling Autumn! Bad vibes immediately. He won me over eventually, but dang, I was ready to toss him out.

Along with the romance, there is also a sub plot of suspense. Autumn may have a stalker situation after finding roses on her door step for the past 3 years, always appearing around the anniversary of her accident. I had my suspicions, but of course I was wrong because I’m getting really bad at predicting the villain in stories recently. But I did enjoy this part, and thought the person behind it was clever.

Overall, the story wasn’t bad, but the vibes were off at the beginning which affected my reading journey.

Tropes:
✨Forced Proximity
✨Roommates
✨He Falls First
✨Enemies to Lovers
✨Grumpy x Sunshine
✨Dual POV

TL;DR- Not bad, but I don’t think it was my vibe.

Ok, this story is a lovely example of enemies to lovers/forced proximity/he falls first tropes. But it’s all just too cheesy for me!! So much cringe I just can’t deal with the sugar sweet romance. I know some love it, but it’s not for me. Overall, liked the story but can’t get past the cheese.

This book seemed like it would be cute but I had a difficult time getting into it. Autumn didn’t seem willing to compromise and wanted everything her way. Elijah was way more understanding and was easier to like. There wasn’t enough to keep me invested in the story. Still would suggest others give it a chance but it wasn’t for me.

Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the ARC.

Autumn has suffered a tragic accident. She is a pianist and is planning a comeback. She lives alone and likes it that way, until she unexpectedly, gets an unwanted roommate.

Elijah is a game designer, trying to launch his own company.

Equally stubborn no one is willing to give up the house.

With such close proximity, the sparks fly. There is something more going on, she is getting creepy gifts that she can't ignore anymore.

I like the storyline, but had the hardest time getting into the story. It would be nice if there was a bit more showing, than telling.

got it on NetGalley, all opinions are mine

This one sounded like it was going to be really cute. But the plot was so slow. I also did not feel any connection between the main characters. For a romance book, this needed more spice. This book could have been so much better if they plot was more thought out.

This was my first book by this Author and I really enjoyed taking my time to read about Autumn and Elijah.

He falls first
Forced proximity
Enemies to lovers
A character with chronic pain
Mental health representation
& more

I loved how easy it was for Autumn and Elijah to fall together.. their love was easy & if I am being honest with myself, I'm obsessed with when that happens.

I did at times feel like the story line was moving a tad slow for my tastes but by the end of the story everything ended up where it needed to be. It was an easy read and I can't wait to see what else this Author has.

Autumn is a concert pianist and is due to play her first solo following an accident she had a few years ago. She is surprised when she comes home one day to find that her landlord has rented out the ground floor of her home to Elijah. Initially, these two do not get along but over time they begin to grow closer together.

I really enjoyed this one. This has a lot of tropes that I really enjoy; enemies to lovers, forced proximity and grumpy/sunshine. I loved the romance between these two. There is also a mystery side plot that I really enjoyed. Overall I thought that this was a good read and I would recommend checking this out.

👌🏻what i liked:
This was an easy and quick read. I found Autumn and Elijah’s backstories interesting, and I really enjoyed the grumpy sunshine aspect.

🙃 what i didn’t like:
The switch from strangers to lovers felt rushed and forced. I honestly thought I missed a chapter because it happened so quick. The mystery storyline created unnecessary drama. The book was already jam packed with storylines and could have happened without the mystery storyline.

🥰 special thanks

I enjoyed this book, it was a quick read! Although, this book was a bit too fast paced than what I was expecting to see, the beginning was really cute but then all of a sudden I felt like, I was left hanging without some information and just skipped to them being lovers when they were just strangers. The way the couple fell in love in an instant was a little overwhelming, which it would’ve been better to see the characters develop love for each other as time progresses. I did love this book, i loved how we got to see each of their individual views, I do believe the book was well written although I did feel like some parts were missing but I still felt connected to the book and characters which was good, and I recommend it to anyone and everyone who wants a good book, needs to get out of a reading slump, just go read it and find out, you will have no regrets.

I had to DNF half way through this book. Absolutely nothing was happening. I didn’t care for the characters and I could immediately tell that the romance was going to be forced. Also the writing isn’t necessarily bad but I’ve read better

Autumn rents a cute townhouse from her father’s friend. One day, she wakes up and finds a man moving in - turns out her landlord rented out the first floor to Elijah. She is not a fan, but they are both too stubborn to give in, so they are forced to cohabitate. Add in some odd gifts showing up on their porch, and what could possibly go wrong?

Oh wow this was painful. The dialogue was so cringey I had to stop reading at times. The banter was so forced. When Elijah and Autumn first meet, they read more like siblings to me than future lovers. I found Autumn to be almost too cold/grumpy and Elijah to be too much of a puppy dog. The only interesting part of the book was the mystery, and even that was boring as I guessed the twist from a mile away.

The book is fast paced but there were too many things going on that it almost started to feel like it wasn’t a romance. I didn’t think we got nearly enough time of Autumn and Elijah getting to know each other, and I thought they got together WAY too quickly. I wasn’t invested in their story, and I didn’t feel their chemistry at all.

Overall, did not enjoy and would not recommend

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC of this book!

4.5 stars
I loved this book!! It was everything I love in a romance, plus a bit of mystery and suspense. It was a fun (and often relatable) read that I didn't want to put down.

There were a few loose ties with the mystery subplot that I wish were addressed to round out the narrative, and I did anticipate what would happen pretty early in the mystery, but I enjoyed it regardless.

Thank you so much to Kate Callaghan and NetGalley for the ARC!

What a fresh take on rom-com. I love a grumpy sunshine trope and felt that this wasnt predictable, but also gave me exactly what I was looking for in a book with a cover like this!

First chapter in and I was hooked. Great emotion and already lots of chemistry from the get go between both protagonists.
The only thing is it was a tad predictable, the broken lock, car keys elsewhere, sudden person popping up and having eavesdropping on conversations and there were lots of hints from the get go, more than breadcrumbs taling us where the storyline was going. Maybe even too many hints. But that's the only real problem, other than that, the chemistry, the strive to get to where they want to be is fully believable and felt.

Touches on the realities that come with chronic pain so well that as a person living with chronic pain, I actually felt represented and seen. It was not fluffy, ill be fine but all woe is me, no, it is a daily minute by minute struggle but we are so damned strong but it's often overlooked by those who just do not understand. I have never felt as seen as this book made me feel and its story just further enhanced my reading experience. The chemistry practically flew off the pages, it was believable and a well fleshed out story. Granted it got a little predictable in places, there was a good twist at the end with the 'who is the baddy?' element.
Full of emotion and heart, it's a definite keeper and future author follower for life, book.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the characters were great and fun. I loved how they were forced to live with each other and the forced proximity did some great things for their relationships. The pace of them falling for each other was great and I just loved seeing them grow together. I do wish the mystery of the roses was more prevalent throughout the novel instead of only being important in the last 15% of the novel. It felt very rushed and made it unbelievable.

Hi just wanted to flag a continuity lapse on Chapter 21 pg 156/266 - what t-shirt? she was described as wearing a wrap dress.

Reviewed on Goodreads, copied below:
2.5⭐️ Silly forced proximity premise, if you can suspend disbelief and roll with it, a fun enough time. Simple. A bit cringey at times, overall not too spicy. Nice to see chronic pain representation. Third person narrative is not my favourite.
Thanks to Netgalley for eARC.

This was a cute enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine with a splash of romantic suspense.

Autumn is a successful pianist dealing with trauma and chronic pain and is set in her routine-like ways. Enter Elijah Wells stage left and you get a handsome and charming entrepreneur with a heart of gold and a cute puppy sidekick.

When Autumn and Elijah are forced to share a house together things start to heat up. I loved the banter and the pranks these two played on each other, and watching their interactions with each other grow into concern and friendship and eventually more was done beautifully well.

I loved the mixing of genres with a cute romance aspect to a suspense thriller with the reveal at the end. The story blended together and really gave this book more depth.

The spice is tasteful, but I loved the more intimate moments so much more. The best thing about this book was the mental health representation with anxiety and the circumstances surrounding Autumn’s chronic pain and her mental health after a traumatic accident.

If you haven’t added this to your TBR, you should. And I will definitely be adding Kate Callaghan to my list of authors to follow and read through her backlist.

🌶🌶

This book was everything. It was such a feel-good cutesy romance, and I loved every second of it.

Forced proximity, grumpy sunshine(but she was the grump and he was the sunshine), he falls first, dual POV, Spice, suspense(I know what!), chronic pain rep, and THE CUTEST dog(Brinkley was my favourite character😅), what more could you ask for!

The whole book was so easygoing, I absolutely loved the writing style, and the banter and chemistry between the two MCs Autumn and Elijah was chef's kiss!

I think what made me give this a 5-star rating was that I really enjoyed the very slight suspense/mystery aspect. It was written so well and kept me guessing until the end. It made me feel like I wasn't just reading another typical rom-com book!

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this. It was a great pick-me-up, and I would definitely recommend it! Best part - it's already released, so go give it a read!

I enjoyed the banter between Elijah and Autumn. Parts of the plot felt rushed and I would have enjoyed a bit more showing over telling. Overall, I did enjoy the book.
