Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for this Advanced Readers Copy of Hex and the City by Kate Johnson!!

Hex and the City is pretty much the perfect romance. It has strong and hilarious lead characters and a really fun plot. I loved Poppy and Axl and the chemistry between them was hot. The witch aspect just made it even better. This book is a huge amount of fun. I can't wait to read more by this author.

This is a fun paranormal romance involving a witch, Poppy, with magical hair like Rapunzel. Chaos follows Poppy wherever she goes and she's new to magic, so she has a lot to learn about control. Axl is a hot, celebrity magician. Poppy's co-worker "accidentally" sells a cursed pendant to Axl and Poppy has to try to get it back before it causes trouble. Adventure follows!
This was a fun witchy romance with a sprinkling of time travel and trouble. It was fun seeing all the chaotic trouble surrounding Poppy. I liked how the coven comes together.
Thanks to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter through Netgalley for an advance copy. This book is expected to be published on September 3, 2023.

Book two is finally here. Tra la tra lay! I felt like singing when I started this book because the first book was so refreshing! Book 2 misses some of that just because it isn’t new in this world the author built. We’ve lived in it for a while.
The meet up was definitely different. Poppy accidentally sold Axl a cursed charm, so she had to retrieve it from him. Naturally, they’re kept together in situations that are better and better as types gives forward. The side characters are chef’s kiss. I wouldn’t change a think.
I hesitate to say much because I don’t want to ruin a single part of it for you. Take my advice and read it! You’ll love it!!

Really good! Loved the plot and characters, highly recommend for a fun summer read! Thank you NetGalley for this ARC

I really enjoyed the book as well as the characters. The writing style was easy to understand and very enjoyable.

This was a lot of fun! I really needed a silly book and this was just perfect. Lighthearted with a side of sarcasm.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

✨ 🧹 Magically Romantic 🧹
I absolutely LOVED Hex Appeal so when Hex and the City was announced I knew I had to read it ASAP!
We follow Poppy who is a London dwelling witch (with magical Tangled-esque hair) who works in the Hubble Bubble Magic Shop. If life isn’t already chaotic enough between work, family and her coven - she accidentally sells Axel (a famous celebrity illusionist) a real cursed pendant! Now it’s up to Poppy and her newfound ally Axel to retrieve the pendent and stop the magical mayhem that is ravaging the city!
Full of found family, witty witches, steamy banter, curses, hoot and a half humor, spice, romance and a whole lotta magic - Hex in the City by Katie Johnson is a magically fantastic read!
Thank you to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and Netgalley for the advanced copy!

Thank you, Harper Collins UK- One More Chapter, for allowing me to read this advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really liked Poppy’s character; I enjoyed her whole story about finding out her gifts and her true identity. I also loved the descriptions of London and the inclusion of historical events.
Unfortunately, that’s where my likes ended. I really didn’t like Alex’s character, and I didn’t fully believe the original chemistry between Alex and Poppy. Honestly, if this story got rid of Alex completely and was solely about Poppy and her story, I would have really enjoyed it. Don’t get me wrong, I know this book is supposed to be romance, but for me that was the worst part!
Even though this book was not for me, I do believe people who are into witchy romances will probably love it.

A fun easy read about witches, magic, curses, and romance.
Love Poppy and her hair , all the other characters..
Just a really fun read .

This was a fun, whimsical, witchy read, with romance, banter and found family.
Hex and the City follows Poppy, a witch who seems to cause chaos wherever she goes. She lives with Iris, the Coven leader, and I absolutely love their relationship and the found family aspect of the Coven.
No romance book is without its love interest - in walks Axl Storm. When all hell breaks loose, can a witch and fake-magician work together to bring order to the chaos?
I did enjoy this book, but there were some elements that I feel could have been developed more. The instant-love seemed a bit too quick for me to fully feel connected with the characters and their relationship.
I also love an action-packed read, but it almost felt like there was no much going on which left aspects of the story feeling like it needs a bit more.
That being said, if you’re looking for a light, fun, quick witchy read then look no further!

This was a fun witchy contemporary romance. Main character Poppy is a 20-something witch with sentient/magical hair who lives in Highgate with her mentor and works part time in a magic shop, where she accidentally sells a cursed pendant to Axl Storm, a super hot Aussie stage magician in town for a show. Determined to get the cursed pendant back, she goes to Axl's performance, but it's too late - chaos (seemingly curse related) reigns, the venue is flooded, and Axl's assistant/most recent hookup is severely injured. Axl (actually Alex) finds his life suddenly intertwined with Poppy's - who he quickly realizes practices *actual* magic - as they confront a series of increasingly unlikely and terrible events while trying to find the cursed pendant. I really liked Poppy and appreciated the witchy twist on the wacky/chaotic/total mess female main character romantic comedy trope. This was fast and fun and I'm looking forward to reading more from Johnson!

This really bums me because I was really looking forward to this ARC from @netgalley and HarperCollins. I get the concept - a witches in London twist on Sex and the City, but I just never got into it. I liked be audiobooks, so maybe that format would’ve made me like it better.

This was so fun! Cosy, sexy, funny, with quite a few (pretty out of the left field!) high-stakes moments. We follow Poppy, a 27 year old witch with seemingly sentient hair, who works at a little magic shop. Things take a turn when she accidentally sells heartthrob Axl Storm a cursed pendant…which doesn’t bode well for his west end opening night. Thus starts a pretty intense few days for the two of them!
The romance is equal parts sweet and sexy, and was a lot of fun to follow along with. It’s chaotic in the best way - I genuinely could not tell you where the plot was going to go next, but I more than happily went along with it, and had fun on the ride. The miscommunication between them can be frustrating, but it’s always quickly resolved, and honestly makes a lot of sense in the situations they’re put in.
There is also a very heartfelt plot line about family, and parenthood, which I thought was very lovingly done.
I definitely recommend it if you’re after a fun, witchy, romance! I also low-key wish I had magical hair now.
Thank you to the publishers, and net galley, for the copy to review.

Poppy accidentally sells a cursed pendant to Alex and must retrieve it from him. Once she does, Poppy and Alex are thrown into an adventure together. Can they fix the chaos they caused or will sparks fly?
Hex and the City is a novel by Kate Johnson that stars Poppy, who is a witch. She unintentionally sells a cursed pendant that ends up in the hands of Alex, who is an actor. I gave this book 2/5 stars because I personally did not like it. I found it hard to get fully invested in this book, which led me to not knowing what was happening. I didn’t care for the characters much and thought the plot was boring. I liked the witch aspect of the book and can understand why others would like it. I think that this book would be good for those who like modern witch adventures. I personally would not recommend this book to others. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

3.75 stars - Creative story but lacked in good world development. Would have loved more back story on the "coven." The books pacing felt disjointed to me. Sometimes it was action packed, and sometimes it slogged a bit. There was a particular scene with specific emotions and even exact thought processes that repeated itself more than once... that was really annoying. For the most part though, it was an entertaining read that could have benefited from some better editing. I liked the characters and the concepts, but I wanted less of the insecure feelings part and more about the witching. I did buy the related book Hex Appeal after reading this, so, I liked it enough to read more! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is my second book by Johnson and I remember that the first one fell down the middle for me. Not bad but just “meh”.
This follow up book fell a little lower for me. Poppy was a hard character for me to click with and one of my least favorite romance tropes made an appearance: Insta-love (or in this case Insta-lust).
I loved the fall vibes and the magic but overall the book, story and characters felt lacking. I wanted more plot line, more fleshed out characters and more of a filled in story regarding the magic/romance.
I felt thrown into the story so it left me feeling “meh”. Not the best but not the worst. It was a nice light hearted fall read while on my vacation.
Perfect for fans:
Fall vibes
Dual POV
Third person narrative

I enjoyed this book. It was an interesting read . I found that I was able to read quickly and enjoyed the pacing and premise of the book. I would recommend to others.

This was such a charming story. I love a good tale of witchcraft, and the juxtaposition of magic versus stage magic was really fun to explore.
Poppy has my whole heart, her beautiful chaos, her journey of self discovery and self confidence, her love story, it was all an absolute pleasure to read.

Hex and the City is the second installment in the series.
Poppy Thistlefoot is a witch that designs jewelry and works at the Hubble Bubble Magic Shop. Chaos seems to follow Poppy everywhere! She accidentally sells a cursed pendant to Alex (Axl). Alex is a popular illusionist who is so swoon-worthy. Poppy and Alex must work together to reverse the curse. What could possibly go wrong? EVERYTHING!!
