Quick Summary: A hilariously funny rom-com with life lessons hidden in plain sight
My Review: The Book Proposal by K.J. Micciche was a hoot and a holler. It was such a funny reading and listening experience that I cannot help but want to engage in the same kind of antics the author used. (I totally could, but I won't. Darn it!)
This creative story within a story within a story... (you get the picture) was a rip roarin' laugh. The characters, from the leads to the supports, were perfectly delightful. Even the not so great characters served to add texture to the story.
The very peculiar and downright unique circumstances experienced by Gracie and Colin were so unexpected. Still, the twists and turns that came with them doing life and being in relationships were understandable. Witnessing them maneuver work and home life situations showed the colorful meaning of growth and self realization.
My Final Say: Readers will love this book. It will sneak up on you and let it loose. (See what I did there? Lol.) Seriously, this book is a good time. I highly recommend it.
Other: I was fortunate enough to be able to review both the e-book as well as the audiobook. Both mediums were on point, but I confess that the listening experience had me cracking up big time. Everyone needs to take a listen.

Thanks to the author, to Dreamscape Media, and to Sourcebooks Casablanca for making this wonderful work available for review via NetGalley. The words I have happily shared are my own and have been voluntarily submitted. I appreciate the opportunity.

I truly wanted to like this story, and I saw so much potential in it! However, to me there is a difference between realistic and real. This book was a little too REAL for me and not even realistic. I love characters with flaws or quirks, but this one was just too much for me.

This was a fun rom-com. Grace is a romance writer, after a drunken night with friends she sends a drunk email to her high school crush Colin. To her sursprise Colin responds to her email, and they form a friendship. They are both getting over breakups and Colin helps Grace with her new book proposal.
This book was very original and had me laugh out loud several times.
Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the advanced listener copy. The narrators were great.

The bright side, I enjoyed the narrators. I DNF at 25%. I thought the characters were immature and I felt like the author’s writing was trying so hard to be an adorable rom com that it missed the mark. Unfortunately this one wasn’t for me but I’m sure others will love it.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape media for the free ALC in exchange for my honest review. Loving the books about authors or how publishing works. Felt fresh and kept my interest. Would have loved a different section for her drunken meltdown to fin growth... i would LOVED to have had the ex-wife have a better response or faced stronger punishments for her actions.
3.5/5☆

I don’t like writing negative reviews, I really don’t but … I didn’t like this one. I was excited about it, too. Cute premise and adorable cover. However, it was immature, crass, and had some wildly unnecessary gross scenes. It felt like a rom com with scenes inserted by a middle schooler.
This book is dual POV. Colin and Grace went to high school together. He accidentally gave her a horrible nickname. She always thought he was making fun of her, etc. Years later, she drunk emails Colin making fun of him. Yes, it was like she was twelve in that email. Even drunk, no one needs to making fun of someone’s appearance, it is immature and unnecessary.
Grace is a ghost writer and a romance writer. She gets a book deal and has been using Colin as inspiration. That’s why she drunk emailed him. He emails back asking what the heck...and this sparks a friendship. They bond over dreadful treatment from their exes. He offers to help her with her book. And off we go.
There was the possibility of a good book here but it had far too many gross middle school humor scenes, felt wildly immature, and there was no character growth whatsoever. Also, several things were left unresolved. Our 30 year old main characters acted like they were 14. If a romance with a lot of crass humor (I swear the jokes were written by a 12-14 year old) is your thing, go for it. Otherwise, I’d pass.
Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an arc of this audiobook. I apologize if misspelled any names or locations, I read this via the audio narration. Thanks to narrators Nick Mondelli and Kelli Tager for a good narration of an otherwise underwhelming novel.

This was a dramatic, ridiculously fun and sexy debut romance that involves a romance author with writer's block drunk texting her high school nemesis and somehow becoming friends.
Recently dumped just before her wedding, Gracie's life is a bit of a mess and she's finding it hard to write about happily ever afters when she no longer believes they exist. With a huge book deal on the line though, she ends up getting help from her old enemy turned new texting buddy, Colin, who helps her come up with the plot for her new book drawing on his own love life disaster with his ex-wife.
Unfortunately this backfires in an unexpected way leaving Gracie unsure if she'll have a career to revive or not. Ironically, while Gracie writes steamy love stories, this book was actually a closed door romance with not too much actual on page spice between the MCs. I didn't mind too much though because I found myself constantly laughing at the crazy things Gracie said and did!
Overall a super fun debut with memorable characters and I for one will be eagerly awaiting this author's next book! Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!
