Sister of the Bride was a super cute friends-to-lovers book. It was a fast easy read that never felt boring. The book wasn’t just romantic, it was also pretty funny (but not silly). The dad jokes, nicknames, and Pippin’s sassiness made the book standout. I also appreciated Pippin’s struggle to deal with so much change in her life that it made me unable to put the book down. I had to find out how everything would land for her. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this book!

This one was a cute little father of the bride retelling.

It focuses on Pippin who has been tasked with planning her sisters wedding. In amongst the chaos her best friend Toby, returns having been away for a number of years. As they reconnect, whispers are all around and feelings start to evolve. Has Pippin’s future been in front of her all along?

I definitely recommend this one if you want a quick and cute read but also enjoy a slow burn, which I definitely do. I absolutely loved it.

"Why don't eggs tell jokes? They'd crack each other up! Come on, that one was good."

Pippins life has been turned upside down and she is struggling to deal with everything. Her sister, Polly has returned back from Europe now engaged. Her mum has decided to sell the restaurant that belonged to her dad and Pippin had been running and has been her life ever since she lost her dad.
The only thing that she can now relay on is Toby. Her best friend who has returned back into her life (in person)after 8 years along with many dad jokes. After Polly and her Pippin's friends have started planting ideas in her head. Are Pippin and Toby just friends or is there something more to their friendship.

The story was a light read. I felt even though the title was true, I didn't feel it was the right one. As you don't find out that Polly is getting married until maybe about 20%, but the reader knows from the word go. I felt the relationship between Pippin and Toby took a while to develop, but when it did I found especially the ending to be very rushed, but I enjoyed the epilogue and how it brought everything together.
Also bonus points for using the name Polly- it isn't very often I get to see my name in a book and I love the dedication.

Thank you Netgalley for a copy of the book for an honest review

I devoured this romance in about one sitting. It was a perfect read over the Memorial Weekend. Pippin Marino runs her family’s Italian restaurant in Boston’s Beacon Hill. Her twin sister, Polly, has returned from studying in London, engaged to a woman she met six months ago and Polly wants Pippin to help plan the wedding. At the same time, Pippin’s mother and grandmother want to sell the restaurant which has been in the family for generations and is Pippin’s connection to her late father. And if that wasn’t enough, her best friend, Toby, has returned from California, single and Pippin is starting to see him in a whole new light. There is a lot going on for poor Pippin!

There are times when I feel like authors just pile on the FMC and just throw one thing after another at them and I get a bit frustrated, like do women have to suffer before they can have love? Morrill certainly gives Pippin her fair share of things to deal with but it all felt very real and age- appropriate. It feels very authentic for a 26 year old struggling to figure out what she wants to do with her life at the same time dealing with the weddings of the people around here when she is single. It all comes together for her, as we expect from a romance, but the ending didn’t feel forced or too cliche.

There were a lot of cute elements to this book, each chapter began with a bad dad joke from Toby. The secondary characters were fun but didn’t take over the story which I appreciate. But I really loved the setting. There is nothing more wonderful than Boston in the summer and I enjoyed all the references to the city. And I appreciated even more that they were accurate!

Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC and I really mean it, I needed this lovely slice of romance (I can do bad puns too). And after a few lackluster books, it was much needed, like the beginning of summer in New England, it was like Pippin says:

“I’ve always loved Boston in the summertime. It’s as beautiful as the winter is bleak, our reward for enduring months of cold and damp and snow…”

The book comes out in September, so put it on your TBR.

Sister of the Bride has all the hallmarks of a delightful romcom and I ate it up! Once I saw that it was a take on "father of the bride" I knew it was a book I needed to read and I wasn't disappointed! If you enjoy friends to lovers romances then check this one out!

This book has such a good Friends-to-Lovers trope.

Pippin's journey throughout the book is inspiring, her ability to adapt makes her such a good character.

Also, I love Toby. That's it. He is a definitely a new book boyfriend.

THIS BOOK!

I love the movie Father of the Bride so reading this book must have been my destiny. I admit, I fully expected a typical, cutesy little romcom that would be a fun read, but not really live up to the movie (yes, I wanted the movie even though this is a completely different story!). Holy Toledo was I wrong!

Pippen and Toby have been best friends since childhood and after living cross-country for quite some time, Toby suddenly moves back home. Of course, Pippen is thrilled because she definitely needs her best bud to help her navigate some very big changes coming her way. Her twin sister is getting married and her family is selling their home and restaurant leaving Pippen wondering what the heck she is supposed to do with the rest of her life. Add in the fact that Pippen also discovers that Toby is no longer the lanky teenager she remembers and is now her hot, muscular BFF that she thinks she has feelings for and you've got a whole recipe for hysterical chaos!

Lauren Morrill's debut is expertly written with the right amount of humor to create laugh-out-loud situations without going over the top. I loved each character and was fully invested in the story - to the point that I couldn't wait to pick it back up. There are several spicy scenes which can be skipped if that's not your thing, but if it is…grab a fan!!

Highly recommend if you're looking for something fun and light-hearted that has a satisfying ending (plus learn some fun dad jokes along the way)! I'll be pressing this book into so many people's hands and cannot wait for Lauren's next book!

A huge thanks to NetGalley and Yellow House Media for an advance copy of this book! All opinions are my own.

I love Toby. He's a little too perfect to be true, but gosh he's lovable. Pippin got on my nerves a bit, as she couldn't quite get out of her own way, and was a hard sell - between being totally clueless to those closest to her, but also having this strong business sense for the restaurant business. I understand that people can excel in one versus the other, but this book seemed to describe the same skillset.

🍝💍👩🏼‍🍳 - sister of the bride

thank you NetGalley for giving me an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

this story starts with pippin who is running the restaurant that her father left behind after he died, then change starts to happen like; her sister polly getting married, her best friend Toby coming back to Boston and her mother is going to close the restaurant that pippin feels is the last reminder of her dad.

I didn’t love this one- I have to be honest.. the whole thing was a bit cliche and I found it hard to connect with at the beginning.. I was just a little bit bored and struggled to continue. Once I got halfway through it started picking up and Toby and Pippin were really cute. But I don’t think this one was for more.

This book had me squeeling, it was such a good romance, but there is of course more to the plot as well. You see pippin struggle with what to do with her life basically, when everything seems to be falling apart. Luckily her best friend Toby is there for her.

The book started of a bit slow, introducing pippin and explaining her situation, but when you get to the part where they kiss omg you wont want to put it down anymore.

I loved this book and would totally recommend it to anyone! It will be published on the 12th of september so go and get it!

Thanks to @netgalley and the author for sending me the Arc in exchange for an honest review!

I love a good friends to lovers, and this felt like a slow burn. Slow to start. I felt like there could have been more emotion put forth as someone who has lost their father I don’t think they touched on the importance of that and what you share with a sister. The story was good and it was easy to read.

I really enjoyed this first adult read from Lauren Morrill! It was fun and sweet and a little bit sexy and Toby definitely had me swooning :)

Thank you for the chance to read earlY!

I loved this title. This was a laugh out loud, giggle, and swoon-worthy book, with just the right amount of spice.
The cute puns and dad jokes really help you get a feel for who the characters are. There is so much growth in our main character’s relationships, not just romantic, but with her twin sister and her family, she was very well rounded.
The book is so well written, you truly feel like you are there in the moment with them. And the dialogue feels very natural.

"Sister of the bride" is a very tender rom-com, with of something spicy and also lasagna and ice cream 🤌🏻

Where should I start?
I really liked the story and Lauren's writing is very nice and bearable😉
It's a best friends to lovers where we meet Pippin (who manages the family restaurant) and ✨Toby✨ (a resident ER doctor).
They have been best friends for 20 years and their friendship is everything nice in the world😍.

I couldn't empathize much with Pippin and truth be told I didn't like her so much but her point of view is quite interesting and seeing how much she cares about her family is beautiful.
But I LOVED Toby, a wonderful friend and a kind, tender and thoughtful man (as well as handsome and tall) he is a walking green flag🥰.

I liked the LGBT representation and the lesbian wedding planning 🏳️‍🌈 but I also would have liked to see more of Polly and Mackenzie because they were so cute together💖

The secondary characters are great and make the story so much more interesting.

I would have died of happiness if the book had Toby's POV😳.

Thank you @ and @ for this eARC😊

BLURB:
For someone who doesn’t do well with change, Pippin Marino sure is dealing with a lot of it. First her twin sister returns from Europe with a fiancé and a plea for Pippin to plan the wedding. Then her mom announces plans to sell the 100 year old family restaurant that Pippin has been running since her father died.

But at least there’s one good development in Pippin’s life. Her best friend has Toby Sullivan surprised her by moving back to Boston. Having him back is the one bright spot amidst her summer of panic, especially when he offers to help her plan the wedding.

But then one kiss changes everything.

And Pippin Marino does not do well with change.

MY REVIEW:
This is the classic ‘friends to more’ trope which I usually love, but this fell a bit flat for me. The characters were overly cliched and I couldn’t connect with them. The pacing was on the slow side, we are a fifth of the way through the book before her sister announces her engagement. There was also a significant amount of telling not showing at the start of the story.

Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in return for my honest review.

3.5*
Pippin Marino hates change. Yet her whole life is going through major change. As she works to figure out her next steps for the future, help plan her twin sisters wedding, she also has to sort through her feeling for Toby, her best friend who just moved back to town.
The story was a funny heart warming story of self discovery and friends to lovers. I would have loved a few chapters from Toby's POV.
Other than minor editing issues (I'm sure they will get them fixed in editing!) I really enjoyed this story.

Thank you Netgalley and Lauren Morrill for the opportunity!

In "Sister of the Bride" by Lauren Morrill, readers are introduced to Pippin Marino, a girl who struggles with change. When her twin sister returns with a fiancé and asks Pippin to plan the wedding, and her mom decides to sell their family restaurant, Pippin's world is turned upside down.

Amidst the chaos, Pippin finds solace in her best friend, Toby Sullivan, who surprises her by moving back to Boston. His return becomes the bright spot in Pippin's summer, especially when he offers to help her with the wedding planning.

However, everything changes with one unexpected kiss, and Pippin, who has difficulty adapting to change, finds herself in a whirlwind of emotions.

"Sister of the Bride" is a cute and heartwarming read, deserving of its four-star rating. The book beautifully captures the challenges of navigating unexpected changes in life and the impact they have on relationships. Pippin's journey is relatable, and the story reminds us of the importance of embracing change, even when it feels uncomfortable.

Overall, this book is a delightful blend of romance, friendship, and personal growth. It will leave readers feeling warm and fuzzy, making it a recommended read, especially for those who appreciate stories about overcoming challenges and finding love in unexpected places.

This contemporary hits all the right spots for fans of the genre. Featuring a classic "friends to lovers" trope the narrative is part family drama, part coming of age story and part standard romance. The spice is spicy, but not just for the sake of being racy. The relationship develops in a believable way and the potential conflict is handled by, brace yourselves, the couple actually talking.

I will warn that Pippin is a bit of heavy furniture at the start. For someone who claims to love family above all else, she had no support to offer her sister upon the engagement announcement, had no clue whatsoever what was happening in the life of her so-called best friend, and somehow managed to completely miss her mother making obvious plans to change the family business. It can be tiresome. However, Morrill does a great job of not only making this part of genuine character development, but in illustrating how this family dynamic is a side-effect of being the one who keeps it all together. Is Pippin inflexible, or is she just the one who has no room for error because everything rests on her? This one will shoot straight to the GenX/Millenial heart.

While the resolutions are all a little too convenient, the HEA works and this was, overall, a fun read in classic contemporary style.
