Book Six D Morgan Brookes Hold your breath.

Another dynamic read from this author, and Morgan once again is that woman that you just can't hold down in her work, with the crazy killers and you can't help but love her.
It becomes addictive and now a body is found in lake Thirlmere and it's not a pretty sight.
Outstanding, amazing leaving me looking forward to more thrill as you turn the pages, leaving you hungry for the next installment what a series this is

Oh I do love a Morgan Brookes novel and this one did not disappoint - it was so addictive a definite afternoon read as I wanted to get to the end. The relationship between Ben and Morgan continues to develop and love the Aunt. The setting works so well and it really inspires me to go there. Cant wait for the next one.

I was given an advance copy by netgalley and bookouture but the review is entirely my own.

Detectives Morgan Brooks and her boss/boyfriend Ben investigate two murders that look like suicide. Morgan gets into harms way as usual and it’s up to Ben to save her.
This was a fast paced exciting read and I’d like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC that will be released June 2, 2023!

Like the title this reader was constantly holding my breath. This is another page turner in this gripping and very addictive series. It all starts with a package delivered to Morgan at work. Inside the box nestled amongst the foam peanuts is a rubber mask. What does it ? Who sent it?? Is this a sick joke or something more sinister. Go to bed early and read this latest in another gripping and addictive series!!!!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.

This is book 9 in the Detective Morgan Brookes series. I love this series❤️. Morgan really is a magnet for trouble but she always gets the job done. I recommend the read👏🏻.

Detective Morgan Brookes is called when a body is found in front of Lake Thirlmere. The victim had been bound and her body staged. When Morgan learns that the victim’s father recently died at the same spot she is suspicious and wonders how well the killer knew the victim.

When the killer turns their attention on another victim, Morgan is horrified to learn the identity. More determined than ever, she is desperate to solve the case. Can she find the killer’s identity before anymore unsuspecting victims are taken?

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I think my students will like this one, a police procedural with likeable main characters. How she figured out the clues that got her to the killer would be interesting to them , as they like to figure it out. A fast read

This was a pretty good book, I didn't like it as much as her other books but it was still good. I would have liked more exploring the motives of the killer, which had more potential than was explored. It felt at times slow and then rushed at the end, I did figure out the killer and the formula of the killer being obsessed with the main character, so we know he will capture her at some point and we know she will be rescued/save herself by the end. Not wanting harm to come to her but maybe a different storyline would work better for me 3.5

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

Detective Morgan Brooke’s is called to a reservoir on a cold night to discover a young woman’s body carefully posed in her car. With clues pointing towards the dentists surgery where she worked, Morgan investigates the dentists and their families. When a second body turns up, linked to more than one of the team, they have to step up the investigation.

I love this series. The way Morgan has these moments of realisation, keeps us in suspense until the end. She needs wrapped in cotton wool though! The team works well together and I enjoy their banter.

Highly recommend both book and series.

I read this page turner in one setting and it was great!
I used to read Patterson but now I like this series. I’ll definitely be reading more by this author.

Whilst I love this series and did enjoy this book I'm not sure how many more I can read where Morgan is the target of a crazed killer. There comes a point where it becomes a bit grating.

Lovely book to read a typical Morgan Brookes not doing what she is told but she always gets the job done.Helen Phifer writes great stories with characters that go so well together.5*

When you meet new people, you are always a bit on your guard for the loud ones. They often are intimidating and even a bit aggressive. So you let them be and most certainly don't want to start an argument with them.

On the other hand there are the quiet ones. Those who would not hurt a fly. does this mean they won't hurt another living creature either or is this just a smoke screen to hide behind and slip through the net??

Maybe the loud ones use their behaviour to vent and maybe the quiet ones are the sneaky ones? Time will tell...

Morgan, Ben and the rest of the team have to deal with yet another killer in their town. Morgan, you just have to lover her, has not changed one little bit. She still often acts before she thinks about the danger you might find herself in. She just wants to solve the case and save people.

Poor Ben. He already has a lot on his mind with the cases and Morgan does not really help by adding to his sorrows by not exactly doing what she has been told by her boss. Yet again she does it, because she wants to put the baddies behind bars as soon as possible, finding herself very often in very dangerous situations.

Morgan is tough. That is for sure. A cat has nine lives. That's way less than Morgan seems to have. :)

I love this series. So, please, dear author, keep them coming. 5 stars

Thank you

I used to love James Patterson's women's murder club, but I prefer this series now. The characters are so easy to like (tears are often shed) and the plots always different. They could be read as standalone, but I'd recommend reading the entire series as the characters grow throughout. The way the team interacts can also be quite funny. I read this book in a day and am already impatient for the next one to be released

Yet another outstanding book. I love this series. The story was amazing and I enjoyed it. I'm already looking forward to the next book.. Morgan is a character which I have loved since the first book

I love this series and this book was no exception. Once again Morgan finds herself in the midst of a complex case which becomes personal for her. She has a knack of finding herself in danger and this case is no exception.

All the characters we have met in previous books are back, all with important parts to play in this story. As to whether they make it through unscathed, that is something only time will tell.

I read this in one sitting as it pulled me in so quickly. I couldn’t put it down.

Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy.

This is hands down one of my favourite thriller series of all times!!

It's basically perfect as far as I'm concerned. The writing style flows really naturally and makes it easy to get lost in the action. The plot is constantly moving forward and there's a good pace and these books never seem to be lagging or have any parts that drag on.

The characters are well established by now but continue to grow as characters. They're well written and fleshed out and even if reading as a standalone, you still get such a clear sense of who they all are.

The plot has plenty twists and turns and each new addition to the series isn't just the same book as before but woth a different killer. They're completely new stories and they all build on the previous. There's also no plot holes or things happening that contradict previous books. The other good thing is that each new book isn't full of spoilers for the previous ones so even if you start here, you can go back and catch up and still get the full experience of not knowing how previous books end!

So yeah, just read it is all I can say

This is the 2nd Helen Phifer book i have read and it did not dissapoint i like morgan and Ben together they make a great team. The story was good a few twists and turns which haf me om the edhe of my seat at times it was hard to tell who the killer was which is a good thing.

I really enjoyed this. It was fast and furious as usual. AND poor Morgan takes her lumps again. I had a strong inkling at who the killer was but at times she made me doubt myself.

There is just something about this series that keeps me clamoring for more every single book. I love how Helen Phifer weaves a creepy tale. And as an American I find how she tells the story fascinating.

I’m looking forward to more. And I hope that Morgan gets time to recover from this one. Perhaps her & Ben need a vacation. 😉

Hold Your Breath is part of a series but it works as a stand alone book. It is a thriller and the writing pushes this book rapidly until the end. Terrific

A detective, Morgan, is called to a lake where she finds Jasmine, a young woman, sitting dead. Murdered.
It turns out Jasmine's father committed suicide at the exact same spot a few months ago.

Morgan sets out to discover the murdered. Along the way her friend Emily is found dead - with the same marks that signified murder in Jasmine's case.

This book is a page turner
