A beautiful story that I was sad to finish! I fell in love with the characters and their stories. Such a well-written story that I couldn't put down. The relationship between Claire and Aunt M was so sweet and loving and I felt like their story could have been based on a true story. You will not regret reading this book!

I absolutely loved this book. If you love France, love stories about the war and love romance this is the book for you. It was filled with courageous characters both during the war and the present day and true love which was pure and beautiful. It was easy to read, with smooth transitions between the past and the present and was difficult to put down. The ending was absolutely perfect too and will bring a tear to your eye!

A brilliant debut offering a fascinating peek into history. Both the present day and the Second World War story strands had me hooked from the start, keeping me fully invested in the characters and their interwoven fates. I look forward to reading more from Corin Burnside.

A dual timeline novel, Her Forgotten Promise by Corin Burnside travels from WWII to present day. The main character Margaret is a member of the WAFF during WWII and loses contact with her friend Agnes. In present day, Claire, Margaret's niece, is attempting to find out what happened to Agnes.

At this point, I did not finish the book (about a third of the way through, because the book began delving into a sensitive topic I chose not to read.

A copy of the book was provided for my review. All opinions are my own.

Review:
This is a beautiful story, told over a dual time line, one set in the present and one that takes place during WWII. The characters are strong women each with their own problems but there are also many similarities. The book is very well written, vivid and with great attention to detail. The story flows well and has is very moving with the right amount of adventure and suspense and a bit of romance to keep you captivated till the end
The characters are well developed; enough background information is given in order for the characters to appear realistic.

Overall:
A well written and captivating story with great character development and the right amount of adventure and suspense. It also gives an insight into the role of the British SOE during WWII.

Many thanks to #NetGalley and publishers for an #ARC of #HerForgottenPromise.
Wow.
This book jumps between two storyline in present day and WWII. It alternates most chapters, and each chapter ending leaves you wanting more. I feel like I have lost a group of friends after finishing this book. Not a lighthearted read, but it still is a great storyline to devour.
Recommended read.

I have finished this wonderful book in less than 48 hours due to the intense heat. I haven’t wanted to put it down. I have been totally engrossed in the story of Agnes, Maggie and Claire.
Agnes and Maggie meet when Agnes joins the same WAAF office as Maggie in WW2. They become friends and in time become lovers - this part is so beautifully written. But one day Agnes disappears and Maggie has no idea where the love of her life has gone.
Fast forward 70 years and Claire is called into her Aunt Maggie’s nursing home. Aunt Maggie is showing signs of dementia and keeps asking where Agnes is. Claire has never heard her guardian mention that name before.
The book switches beautifully between WW2 and modern day as we discover what happened to Agnes…….
It goes without saying, I loved it! I love historical fiction and, in my opinion, this so well written and meticulously researched. I love the twist, won’t say anymore! I was totally lost in it. The characters were really believable and I found it easy to picture the story in my head.
I look forward to more books by Corin!

I very much enjoyed this well written and obviously well researched book. It is evocative and intriguing and I was totally invested in Agnes’ story. I was slightly less interested in the storyline with Claire and would’ve preferred more from the older Margaret but otherwise this was a brilliant read.

I loved the premises of this book from the very beginning. The storylines cleverly feed into each others and the switch from past and present makes the plot dynamic and intriguing.

I love the setting and felt immediately connected with Agnes and her story. I don't usually read historical fiction but I love novels that have different timelines alternating, and Her Forgotten Promises definitely delivered.

Five stars for this very accomplished debut, with characters that will pull your heartstrings and and intriguing mystery that makes me rush through the chapters. I can't wait for more books from this author!

What a wonderful book!

I was completely swept up in this epic story of love, loss and adventure in the most difficult of circumstances.
A dual timeline novel following Claire in 2014 as she tries to help her aunt Margaret find her best friend, Agnes, who vanished during WW2, and Agnes herself, in 1943 as the truth about her disappearance is unraveled.

I love an adventure story with strong female leads and this book ticks those boxes. It also has a lovely romantic thread and the author has captured a great sense of place in the prose.
Moving and thrilling, I hugely recommend this debut!

Thanks to the author, NetGalley and to HQ Stories, Harper Collins for the opportunity to read this advanced copy.

A beautiful romance torn apart by the war and brought back to life in the storytelling of Margaret, to her niece of her life during the war and the disappearance of her friend Agnes.
Determined to solve the mystery Clair begins to investigate.
Told in two timelines and from the points of view of Margaret, Agnes and Claire the story of life during war time, of love lost and of lives saved is beautiful and Claire finds her own peace even as she allows Margaret to finally lay her questions to rest.
Loved it!

I do enjoy books set with a WW2 theme - especially with SOE stories. This book did not disappoint and shows how easy it would be lose people when homes were destroyed and it was unknown who survived and who moved elsewhere. It was a touching love story and having a modern one intertwined added to the depth of the book.
