This is the third of David Jackson's novels that I have read and it didn't disappoint.

The prologue immediately drew me in and the plot really activated my immigration. I love the way Jackson took an everyday kind act and turned it into a week of unimaginable horror.

Yes some of the scenarios were slightly unbelievable but in the way a BBC drama can be. It didn't effect the plot it just added to the need to know what was going on.

I would have liked a little bit more character development and the ending was slightly disappointing, but overall an intense page turner!

Many shy people seem to have that make-or-break point in their lives when they have to try to come out of their shells, but Elliot is really taken to the extreme in standing up for himself (and Rebecca)!

David Jackson really is a master at putting ordinary people into nightmarish scenarios and One Good Deed is no exception. You can feel the tension and panic bearing down on you, even though you are just reading along!

I highly recommend this, along with the author's other books.

Thanks to the author, Viper, and NetGalley for the eARC of this book.

Things take a sinister turn when Elliott helps out a stranger being followed by her stalker. An exciting, fast-paced and tense thriller that you will find hard to put down.

This book was awesome. I flew through this as I needed to know what happened. All about stalking. Very good author who I am looking forward to reading more of.

It has been a while since I had the opportunity to read a novel by David Jackson, the last being 7 years ago (Marked – Callum Doyle #3) and I have no idea why I’ve not read another since. Time plays a big part of course and it’s simply a case of time has gotten the better of me! With that in mind I can’t tell you how pleased I was/am to have had the opportunity to delve into another Jackson thriller, this time I’ve read One Good Deed.

I remember a few years ago reading a book by Linwood Barclay and the book centres around picking up a stranger who has broken down on the side of the road and everything that follows. Helping strangers should be a simple and rewarding act right? It’s not just the movies or books that a simple act can cause so many issues and in this thriller, we, once again have a case where the protagonist should have just walked away and not helped. But we can’t know what’s going to happen can we? Most of us will hope that we, when asked, would be able to help out someone in need but I have to say, once you read a book like this you’d certainly be forgiven if you never wanted to help another human being – ever!!

When any book begins and the first few chapters move from one location to the other, you do find yourself (I certainly do) wondering how on earth the author is going to tie these characters together. You don’t have long to wait in this case as each action, although they appear separate, are indelibly linked. Elliot, the main protagonist comes across as weak and vulnerable and incapable of making decisions, he’s a scared man but when he has the opportunity to help a woman in distress, Rebecca, he does. Unfortunately for Elliot his one simple action opens up a can of worms unleashing violence, danger and intrigue.

Really enjoyed getting to know David’s characters once again and I really shouldn’t leave it so long to read his next novel. Fast paced, clever plotting and characters you will love and hate in not so equal measures, One Good Deed is well worth the admission fee.

Another fantastic book by David Jackson. He is by far one of my favourite authors and his books never disappoint. This was a unique storyline with good twists and turns. I really liked the main character Elliot.

I did try and overlook some of the ott and unlikely scenarios in this book but I wasn’t successful. I won’t give any actual secrets away but must ask why anyone who is attacked would refuse to get help? So not a favourite read for me I’m sorry to say.

Wow, what a page turner. Well written, fast paced and addictive with some good twists, alternating with dark and sinister in places. A new author for me but one I will look out for. This is a book I will definitely be recommending.
Many thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read thiS ARC

Fast-paced and exciting with plenty of unreliable-narrator types to keep you guessing. Elliot's good deed, pretending to be the boyfriend of the beautiful Rebecca, quickly turns nasty as Darren, a man claiming to be her boyfriend, appears on the scene.
Full of twists and turns, a thrilling read to devour in one, heart-pounding, sitting

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. This was another very enjoyable thriller this author. It was well paced, suspenseful with some dark characters, everything I love in a thriller. Elliott is a likeable, kind man, living a quiet life between managing a charity shop and caring for his much loved cat Bill. One evening, a trip to the corner shop for emergency cat food, brings Elliott and Rebecca together as she asks for his help, he comes to her aid unknowingly setting himself onto a course of deception and not only his life but the life of his very best friend Heidi also being put at risk. The tension whilst reading this book was palpable and it will definitely leave you second guessing whether good deeds are always worth the risk. #onegooddeed #davidjackson #netgalley #tea_sipping_bookworm #goodreads #thestorygraph #getlitsy #thriller #bookqueen #bookstagram

One Good Deed
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
[ad / pr product]

Elliott, an unlikely hero, comes across a scared and vulnerable Rebecca one night - there’s a man harassing her, following her. Would be mind pretending to be Rebecca’s boyfriend just while she walks home? And that is that - just a favour for a stranger. Until the man who was following Rebecca knocks at his door. He is dangerously obsessed with Rebecca, but even when Elliott comes clean, the man doesn’t believe him. The only way to save himself is to get Rebecca to explain, but there’s just one problem - she is nowhere to be found..

Firstly, I loved the focus on Elliott not being a ‘typical’ manly man. He was a very unlikely hero filled with anxieties and feelings of not being enough. I really enjoyed watching his character develop throughout the story, and uncovering different sides of himself he didn’t know he had.

As always, I loved David Jackson’s writing style. He writes such fast-paced tension-filled thrillers that barely leave you space to breath. I finished the book in under 24 hours because I was so gripped! You definitely need to suspend reality a bit while reading this one, as it’s not the most realistic of thrillers. But as @morbid_thrillers would say, it’s very much a popcorn thriller! Pure entertainment value!

I found the ending to be a tiny bit underwhelming, but I very much enjoyed the action leading up to it so it didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment too much.

This one felt much more similar to the first David Jackson book I read, The Resident, than his previous release of last year, No Secrets. It was definitely dark and gruesome in places, and it seems Jackson has returned to a more morbid vibe after a reasonably wholesome and tame release last year!

Thank you so much to the lovely team at @viper.books for including me on the blog tour for this one!

One Good Deed is out now!

Wow! What a page turner, I couldn’t put it down. It’s full of suspense with plenty of twists and turns throughout. The characters were great, the story itself was brilliant and the style of writing was perfect. I have read all the stand alone books by this author and I have loved every one of them.
I would recommend this psychological thriller to anyone who enjoys reading this genre:
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.

I have read books by David Jackson many times and his books always completely grip me and keep me entertained, and this new novel was no different.

The plot and story line was completely engrossing and kept me gripped, it was a different kind of thriller than i have read before with a different take on a crime that i have not read a lot of.

I liked the male lead and felt so sorry for him, and the position the female put him in, I really disliked her.

This book will entertain and keep you gripped until the end and will give you second thoughts in helping anyone you do not know.

Thank you Netgalley for a copy for an honest review

All Darren wanted to know was where his girlfriend is seeing that she's gone missing! She is not answering his phone calls so how dare her grandmother chase him away and refuse to speak to him?! All he wanted was just a simple conversation.........
BUT it ended in murder......

Elliot is a nice and decent guy who works at a charity shop for cats (This was where I decided he must be a good guy because CATS!)
On his way back from the shops he encounters Rebecca who asks him to help her out and act like he knows her because somebody is following her. This ONE GOOD DEED will not end well for poor Elliot and his friend Heidi because the guy in question is our friend Darren.......

Another brilliant read by David Jackson! I rushed through this book because I had to know how it was going to play out and boy what an ending! I will definitely think twice about being nice to strangers from now!!

Thank you to Netgalley and Serpent's Tail, Viper and Profile Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

Opens with a bang!!!

This one had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Sometimes a bit too over the top but never not entertaining. Elliott is a bit of a wiener which grated on me at times and the ex boyfriend what a creep!!!

One thing is for sure it doesn’t always pay to be a Good Samaritan.

Many thanks to Viper, NetGalley and the author.

Unexpected, Relentless..
Ah, the unassuming Elliott. He lives a fairly ordinary existence, keeps himself to himself. He’s definitely no hero. Or is he? Elliott’s life is about to change. He’s about to meet Rebecca. His life is about to transcend into utter chaos. A pacy, relentless and swiftly moving suspense laced with wry humour and wholly unexpected moments. The author never lets up for a second as the tension mounts and eventually reaches a clever and confounding denouement. A cracking and unforgettable read.

Charity shop worker Elliott would hardly describe himself as heroic. One night, however, he is approached by a woman, Rebecca, who tells him that she is being followed by a man and asks to accompany him for her own safety. Little does Elliott know that this good deed will set into motion a series of events that will put lives in danger. How truthful has Rebecca been and what is her relationship to the man she claims is stalking her?

David Jackson is a fantastic story teller who has a knack of drawing you into his books right from the start, taking what is an ordinary situation and turning it into a dark yet humorous plot. This is exactly what we get in One Good Deed when mild-mannered Elliott encounters situations that take him way out of his comfort zone and threaten to change his life forever.

The plot is gripping and it is easy to why Joanna Cannon has called the author, ‘the king of just-one-more-chapter’. I definitely found it hard to put this book down as I was desperate to see how Elliott would fare against the larger than life characters that he faced through no fault of his own.

One Good Deed is one of those books that make you ask questions about yourself – is it always a good idea to help a person in need or do we need to look for an ulterior motive?

If you have never read any of David Jackson’s books before, this is a great one to start with.
