What the WHAT?! Okay, maybe some of this is on me because I get a little too confident when I’m reading KMod books and I think to myself about halfway through that I have it figured out…then throw in a third act twist, then two more for good measure and I did not see a single part of this ending coming. I didn’t see it coming even when it was GLARING me in the face…because KMod has this way of writing where she lulls you into the “hey look over here” and my gullible little eyes are like, “sure I’d love to do that so you can slap me silly later.”

I don’t want to say too much for fear of giving away some plot, but this was absolutely one of my favorite KMod books to date. I usually have a “love to hate you” relationship with KMod’s characters but this one felt a little different–I really just straight up hated Spencer from start to finish, went back and forth with Andi, and well, Heidi…I really loved her, even from the beginning, despite it all. Yet, even though Spencer was half the POV, I still ate this book up and enjoyed his chapters all the same.

I listened to this one on audio and while I really enjoyed the narrators for Andi and Kaylee, Spencer’s narrator was just okay for me. I had a hard time distinguishing between his different voices which made things a little unclear a few times but overall, he was definitely listenable. I’d definitely pick up an audio from any of them again in the future.

This was another hit from Ms. modglin and her bag of twists!!! Very good read, great original story, and surprise ending.

**please note due to low rating I will not be leaving a public review for this book as I have not paid for it.**

Narrated by Natalie Naudus; Scott Brick; Jesse Vilinsky ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Story by Kiersten Modglin ⭐⭐

The premise of this book was great, and I really appreciated that this was a quick read but unfortunately for me I just could not believe Andi's actions at the beginning because the undying love she described for Spencer did not mirror what we hear/saw for ourselves.

The twist were really good though. Just wish the beginning was executed better.

The queen of twists strikes again. KMod delivers another thriller that makes you think what is wrong with these people while simultaneously blowing your mind with the twistiest twist of them all! This one had me asking myself “how dumb is this woman?” And then having to drop my jaw in awe. Fabulous quick read - thanks to NetGalley for this one!

Don't Go Down There was an interesting listen, to say the least. I was confused at the beginning, as I was unsure of how the author would take the plot and expand on it, as we knew what was going on in the basement from the beginning.
I felt anger, fear, and anticipation while listening to this book. I very much enjoyed the plot. The character's internal monologue and thoughts added to the depth of the story. The plot twist definitely made the story. I overall very much enjoyed this book. If you're a fan of thrillers, you won't be disappointed!

I typically thoroughly love Kiersten's books but this one was just a bit too predictable for me. I didn't get that big twist with this one I was bummed; I enjoyed the narrator but this one just wasn't it for me. Two stars because I love this author and I enjoyed the narrator.

Wow, this book was really good, very short, but pretty good! I loved the title and cover of the book as it kind of gives you a hint of what to expect. Is the premise absolutely out there? Yes it is but who wants 100% realism in their stories? Would this happen in real life? I sure hope not but maybe.....I guess? I've noticed that some people are wanting hyper realistic thrillers and I'm ok with suspending a smidge of reality.

We have 2 main POVs in this story our married couple Andi and Spencer who seem to have the idealistic life, happy marriage, kids, decent jobs, the whole shebang. Until the beginning of this book! The pacing of he story is quick, which you should be expecting with a 200 page/ 4 hour book. The further we go in the story the more twisted everything becomes. For Andi's perspective we are in the now experiencing in 'real time' and for Spencer we have a mix of flashbacks and 'real time' experiences. Spencer's POV is .... well he is not the best decision maker. Also, that last chapter just was a shocker, did not see that coming. It was just great.

With the audio narration, I found it to be really great. I like when there are different narrators for each POV. I have listened to a couple of books from 2 of the narrators (you can click their names in the tags of this post for links) and they did not disappoint. For Spencer's POV, I don't know there was something about the male narrator that didn't fit for me. He did a fantastic job but he doesn't have a scumbag voice, which I guess Spencer was a sleeper scumbag. Overall though the narrators really did a great job bringing the tension of this story to life.

If you are looking for a short domestic thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat this one is worth the read!

This book was a whirlwind! I always love Kiersten Modglin's books and this one definitely did not disappoint! It was hard to put down because I could not wait to find out what happened next. Highly recommend the audio version.

My only complaint was I wished this were longer! I absolutely love everything that Kiersten Modglin writes and this one was no different. She always finds a way to create a fresh storyline with familiar tropes. This was a really quick read and I do wish it was a bit longer because I wasn't ready to let go of the story. This was perfectly crafted and the ending was a real treat. I really enjoyed the characters and found all of them really interesting. I think they all could have been developed a bit more which would have added some more length to this but I still really enjoyed it regardless. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Don't Go Down There
by Kiersten Modglin
Narrated by Natalie Naudus; Scott Brick; Jesse Vilinsky

Rating: 4.4/5.0 Stars

Kiersten Modglin does it again! If you enjoyed The Arrangement series, you'll definitely enjoy Don't Go Down There. This was a speedy listen that I was able to finish in one day. Andi is nice, and a bit naive. When I say naive, I mean that her husband Spence is a cheating, low down, good for nothing and why she stands by him, I will never understand. I don't want to give anything away, but in typical KMod fashion she crafts a fun, twisting and turning adventure that leaves you thinking about what you would do in the same situation. I always feel like KMod takes on some of the deep dark desires that could be possible...if most humans weren't innately decent and responsible human beings.

Scott Brick is a powerhouse narration ad his performance didn't disappoint. Jesse Vilinsky and Natalie Naudus held their own with him and they all lent to bringing the characters to life.

Thanks so much to the author, NetGalley and Dreamscape Medial for the opportunity to listen to and review this ARC!

Wooo this one kept me on my toes! Kiersten Modglin is back with another winner that is fast paced and twisty. I didn't want to put this one down. I recommend the audio version.

Thank you for an advanced copy of this audiobook! The narrator was fantastic! I enjoyed the plot of this book but I think the book was way too short. The characters could have been much more developed.

5 stars.

I loved this book from start to finish. They gave me a lot of The Arrangement vibes so I feel like anyone who enjoyed or loved that book/series would really enjoy this book. I enjoyed reading between the two POVs, especially the wife's because we got know and figure out everything along with her. I have been really enjoy this new "don't go down to the basement/stay out" trope and this book did it the best. I love Kiersten Modglin books and will continue to read them.

I also really appreciate the two different narrators and I feel like they put on a perfect performance.

So I am a big Kiersten Modglin fan and I have read most of her books and I try to grab them on Netgalley, Amazon, or Hoopla as soon as I can. I feel compelled to share this since this is the first time I am rating lower than 4 stars. Don't Go Down There was not my favorite and I was a little disappointed. This could be because I'm a big fan and you can't love everything, right?

As always, it's fast paced, decent character development, and I instantly hated Spencer. Overall, the story line was good and she had a great twist but it wasn't her best work, in my humble opinion. She always writes books at lightening speed and keeps me always wanting more. The underage piece was a little tough but not far fetched. The part that was not believable for me was that the mom or Andi didn't connect the dots sooner. Spencer didn't seem smart enough to me to have hidden it this well. I still love Kiersten's writing and this will not deter me from chasing her next book!
Grateful to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the ALC 🙏 #Don'tGoDownThere #Netgalley

If I’ve said it once, I’ll shout it again…. KMOD DOESN’T MISS.

Her books just grab me, pull me in, and keep me in a chokehold until the very last word. Don’t Go Down There was no different!

Andi Edwards realizes her husband, Spencer, is home early from work. Being the loving and devoted wife she is, she rushes home thinking he’s sick. Sick, physically? Ill he is not…

What do you do when your husband tells you not to go down to your basement? You go down there, of course. And you find out that everything you thought you knew about your marriage was a lie. Andi has a choice to make: stick by her husbands side, or force him to confess the truth.

Let me tell ya, this was a wild ride! I loved the over the top twists and turns. This one was FAST paced! There wasn’t a ton of character building. We are strictly on a need to know basis with DGDT, which I personally liked. It kept me focused on the situation our characters were dealing with.

I literally never know what’s going to happen when I open one of Kiersten’s books. The ending of DGDT really packed a wallop, and I didn’t see it coming. I listened to this (as I do most of KMods books) and I enjoyed the narration so much! The voice actors were fantastic.

Don't Go Down There by Kiersten Modglin is a gripping domestic thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat with its shocking twists and fast-paced storytelling.

Andi Edwards, a wife and mother, is faced with a disconcerting discovery when she arrives home early and cannot find her husband, Spencer, anywhere in the house. As she stumbles upon him emerging from the basement, disheveled and clearly hiding something, he utters the words, "Don't go down there." Andi is left with burning questions: What is Spencer hiding in the basement? Will she comply with his wishes or risk uncovering the chilling truth? And as the stakes escalate and their best-laid plans unravel, what sacrifices are they willing to make to survive?

The audiobook version, narrated by Natalie Naudus, Scott Brick, and Jesse Vilinsky, enhances the storytelling experience and all three narrators deliver impressive performances. Kiersten's writing style exceeded my expectations, providing this book a jaw-dropping ending! The author's ability to consistently surpass anticipated outcomes is truly commendable.

In conclusion, Don't Go Down There is an enthralling domestic thriller that delivers a rollercoaster ride of suspense and surprises. Kiersten Modglin once again proves her mastery in crafting gripping and compelling narratives. This book is a must-read for fans of the genre.

Grateful to Dreamscape Media & Netgalley for providing the audiobook ARC in exchange for an honest review.
