"It didn't mean anything. It was just sex."

"Did you get that from the cheating husband handbook?"

The genius of Kiersten Modglin is she gives me goosebumps and has me cackling at the same time as she crafts her shocking thrillers. Don't Go Down There is no exception. A little over 4 hours it's a tour de force for premier narrators Natalie Naudus Scott Brick Jesse Vilinsky as they perform their butts off in this WTF is going on domestic thriller.

Andi can't find her husband. She hasn't looked in the basement they never use but now she creaks open the door and hears a voice gush, "Don't go down there!" It's her husband Spencer. What's going on? Is he cheating? Does he have a woman down there? Well let me tell you the 4 hours listening to Spencer spin his tales and hearing Andi come to her ULTIMATE conclusion was a giddy thrilling time.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from Dreamscape Media via #NetGalley for a fair and honest review.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the free audio book in exchange for my honest review! THis was narrated by Natalie Naudus, Scott Brick, and Jesse Vilinsky, all of whom did a fantastic job!

I see from other reviewers that I am in the minority here but I had several issues with the book. In reviewing the blurb for the story, it ticked all of my boxes, and I was very excited to read it. However, the further I got into the story, I just did not see the plausibility of the plot as executed and I needed that to enjoy the read.

First of all, the premise of a loving wife coming home to find her husband has locked his mistress in the basement and being faced with the choices of how to deal with that sounds like a great read. But, the characters did not have enough development and were just a bit contrived. It was almost like reading the horror scene where the dumb blonde is told not to open the door and you know she will. You knew what would happen here and for this story, it just was not believable. It takes a certain sociopath to be able to do what the characters were considering and I did not see that built up in their characters.

Second of all, its too short. I wanted to check with the publisher to ensure that chapters had not been omitted in the download. More backstory would have made the plot better. Where was the build up for the couple's relationship? personalities?

Third of all, I found the ending too abrupt. It left me with unanswered questions and not in a good way.

This is my first novel by this author and it will not be my last. There is tremendous potential here for a great psychological, suspenseful read. While this one fell flat for me, I definitely will pick up her next book.

The entire time I was listening to this I was yelling or mouthing "WTF?" Every single sentence was more scandalous than the last. I could not predict where this was going at all. It was madness. It was a wild ride that will never be replicated.
And then I got to the end! OMG.
You have to listen to this.

The narrators nailed it.

Don’t Go Down There by Kiersten Modglen is the kind of thriller I’ve come to expect from the author. This book is a fantastic perfect example of a great thriller! Andy is married to Spencer and when she arrives home early and find his car in the driveway she gets worried when she cannot locate him in the house. When she hears a noise coming from there unused basement she is perplexed but as soon turns to relief when she sees her husband Spencer coming up the basement stairs. He has a confession and what he confesses will turn Andy’s life upside down he cheated on Andy with Heidi Heidi has a broken wrist and oh yes she’s tied up in the basement. He explained to his wife how she was a client of the agency he works for because relationships between clients and agents are frowned upon so they kept the relationship secret but now because he wanted to end it Heidi threaten to tell Andy and show her video and pictures and screenshots of the conversation he had with her but he’s not a violent guy… Right? She immediately dislikes their captive guest downstairs but before it’s over she will look at the victim and her husband in a new light and they will change everything she knows about her life. Andy doesn’t know what to do with the information Spencer tells her but the victim perpetrator situation brings up old events in Andy’s life and that will help her decide the outcome. This book was so so good! I haven’t been impressed with the authors last two books but this one she is back to her best and OMG Natalie Naudus did a fabulous job Narating this book and so kudos to her. I have heard about many books Scott Brick has narrated, but never heard one now I have and I know why all the hype is valid. This is a total five star listen. It’s only five hours long but packs a mighty punch this is such a great book and I’m so glad I didn’t give up on the author because this is the kind of thriller I look for in one I am used to her delivering. What a great read! I received this book from NetGalley and Dreamscape Nedia but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

This was a short, but full tilt crazy ride!! You can always count on Kiersten Modglin to put the 🍿 in popcorn thriller. I love the way this book started and came full circle by the end. I can’t make too many comments because everything would be a spoiler. Go into this one blind, strap in, and have fun!
Great narration by Natalie Naudus and Ray Porter!
*Thanks to Bookoutre and NetGalley for the audiobook.

You're thrown right into the story right off the bat. I thought the beginning was a little cringe, but I went with it and I am so glad that I did. The twist of the ending, that I did not see coming AT ALL, made the entire book that much more better. FOUR STARS!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to review this audiobook. And as always, great job by the amazing author Kiersten Modglin.

Don't Go Down There by Kiersten Modglin

First, I want to say this was a quick read it flowed nicely with a few twists that made the story come together. I was engaged from start to finish. Andi comes home early and is looking through the house for her husband. She knows that he is here as his car is home, but room after room she searches and isn't able to find him anywhere. Until he comes up from the basement. He is surprised to see her, as she him, looking all disheveled and uneasy. Spencer knows he screwed up and tells her, "Don't go down there". Wait, what? What does Spencer have down there that she can't see? What exactly is he doing? Will Andi accept comply with his wishes? Or will she have no choice but to go into the basement to see what it is that her husband is so obviously hiding?

The great thing I was not sure how this story was going to play out. Some parts where ridiculous from the way they acted and how dumb Spencer and Andi can be. Like buying Aspirins from a drug dealer for 600 dollars oh boy how can someone be conned that bad.

This book was entertaining and the few hours I spent listening was well worth my time. If you like quick thrillers this one will be for you. Also, if you like domestic thrillers this will be for you too.
The story was narrated by Natalie Naudus, Scott Brick and Jesse Vilinsky which was nice they gave voice for the different points of view from each character. This was a four-star read for me.

DON'T GO DOWN THERE by Kiersten Modglin and read by Natalie Naudus, Scott Brick, & Jesse Vilinsky was a short snappy thriller!

Sometimes you just want to be entertained and not have to dive too deep into character motivation or development. This is a book for those moments! More of a novella at less than 200 pages, the audio was a super quick listen and just the entertainment I was looking for.

Andi has a sixth sense that something is wrong and heads home early. When she finds her husband home unexpectedly and heads to the basement to investigate, he tells her, "Don't go down there." The suspense and action take off leaving little time for Andi to process and decide what she is going to do!

I recommend this story for a quick entertaining novel in the genre. The audio was done well, and I really appreciated the three narrators. Listening at 2X speed felt easy and smooth through all the transitions and I was caught up in the angst, even if I would have run out immediately!

Thank you so much to @dreamscape_media and @netgalley for the chance to listen to this audio and share my thoughts. This title is available now!

Maybe I’ve just read too many of her books in a short span of time but this one is not my favorite. It’s not the writing; that’s excellent, as usual. The writing grabs you and builds such great tension. It’s just that the story wasn’t that great. These have to be the two dumbest people on the planet. I think my issue with the book is the implausibility of the actions taken (or, at least, they should be). Still, it was a good read, just not up to the standard I’m craving

During my flight, I listened to this audiobook. Since the very first chapter, it had me intrigued. The story is told from different POVs, and even though some characters need more depth, it is a great thriller. The twists and turns are unexpected and all plausible. Overall I recommend it.

Thank you, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley, for the advanced listening copy in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kiersten Modglin for this audio-ARC in exchange for my honest feedback and review.

Spencer and Andi have a beautiful home, beautiful children, wonderful careers, and a fulfilling marriage. When Andi comes home early thinking Spencer is sick she finds something in the basement she can't believe. Where is her husband, what has he done?

While I did guess the twist before it was revealed I really enjoyed this quick domestic thriller. If you're looking for a fun twisty read this summer for a car trip or lounging by the pool this is one you need to check out! Overall great book!

Quick audiobook thriller that had me hooked so fast! Always fast paced with quickly building plots, this one does not disappoint. I finished this book in one evening.

What would you do if you arrive home and your husband tells you “don’t go down to the basement.”? What if what was down there had the potential to change your life forever, and not for the better.

Thank you NetGalley for this audiobook ARC, opinions expressed are my own.

Andi comes home early after tracking her husband's location, and determining he has left work early. She soon finds him and must decide whether or not to enter the basement and if she does enter the basement, will what happen in the basement stay in the basement?

This book was moving! From the very start of the story, it felt so vivid as if you were actually in the house watching the events unfold. The narration was phenomenal.! I kept wondering what will happen next, how will it all end. What route would Andi take. I think the ending did a great job answering the question that the reader had, so that when the audio ends or you close the book, that one lingering question is resolved.
The police part was a bit hard to believe and almost satirist! No way would the police not do a thorough investigation. It is incredulous to believe that the police would just take the word of the person on the crime scene who is covered in blood and simply close the case. It is sheer madness lol, but the book was so good!!!
I want to read more from this author! She is a great storyteller.

KMod writes a messed up married couple better than any author I know!

This domestic thriller sucked me and and kept my attention. It had some twists I did not see coming!

Andi comes home early from work and is surprised to see her husband's car there. She looks for him, and when she finds him, he is surprised to see her as well. He looks upset and disheveled. She tries to head down to the basement and he tells her "Don't go down there". And so it begins.

As the layers start peeling back, you will think you know the whole story, then you're hit with something else.

Enjoyed from start to crazy finish!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for an ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Rating ⭐⭐.5

~ Quick Summary ~

Andi discovers her husband’s chilling secret in the basement and she needs to decide whether to help protect her family or let Spencer pay for his sins and destroy their lives.

~ Pick this up if you enjoy/don’t mind the following ~

📖 Quick and easy read (169 pages)

🤯 You’re in it for the twist and turns only

🤼 Unlikeable characters

⛔ No character development

~ Thoughts ~

Considering Andi was painted as a very normal suburban and devoted wife, I couldn’t believe her actions. H

This is personal preference but this book was too short. It felt like the first and last third of the story was missing. I wish there was more around the development of the characters themselves because the build up could have helped make Andi’s actions more believable. And the ending felt abrupt as we don’t know what happens to the characters next.

Thanks to Dreamscape and Netgalley for the Audio ARC.

Andi is in quite a pickle. What does she do with the woman her husband has tied up in the basement? Do they kill her, dispose of the body and move on with their lives as if nothing happened? Or let her go and take the consequences?

I'll admit I was a little bored for the first half of the story. Why didn't Andi just pack her bags and leave? Take the kids and let her husband clean up his own mess? Her indecision made her complicit. The Spencer chapters were frustrating. It's amazing the justification men will come up with. Despite the slow start I was so intrigued with how they were going to get out of this situation that I kept going. The second half held some twists that changed the game and I was pleasantly surprised. A solid thriller.

I would have loved to read this book. I usually only do audio while traveling but since i chose this i began it. Amazing plot and intense action throughout. I did not however enjoy the female reader speaking as her husband off and on throughout a few chapters. It made me feel as of a person was play acting while reading for a child.

All in all this was a great book but difficult to form a picture of the characters in the beginning.
