This book was so gripping and had me sucked in right from the beginning. I have really become a fan of Kiersten Modglin’s books as they always manage to pull me and keep me engaged throughout. I love how the books are quick, intense and thrilling reads.

Oh my god! She’s done it again. How? Kiersten Modglin tells the most creative storytelling. I’ve read everything of hers and she just keeps surprising me. Her novels aren’t particularly long, but man can she write.
I loved this crazy story and it made me nervous and anxious and it was wild! I chose to listen to this as an audiobook and man, the narration was exceptional. They all did an amazing job and I highly recommend this novel.
Thanks Dreamscape Media via Netgalley.

KMod’s thrilllers are reliably short and bingey. At under 5 hours, this audiobook was easy to get through in a day. I wouldn’t say it was the most mind blowing of hers (the Arrangement is still my favorite), but it was thoroughly enjoyable.

Andi had no idea coming home early would be a mistake or that her day was about to turn into a nightmare. Her husband of ten years has been a good person. In fact, they are good people, but when he invites a messy situation into their basement it’s Andi to the rescue.

In the matter of hours Andi and Spencer become rookie criminals. Spencer’s mistake takes them down a spiraling rabbit hole of unexpected outcomes. As they try to navigate one situation two more pop up.

As I’m listening to the audiobook I can’t help thinking about the show Dead to Me. For some reason the situation Spencer put Andi in has me laughing. It’s the internal dialogue that’s making me laugh and the way they play out each option.

Narrators:
Natalie Naudus
Scott Brick
Jesse Villinsky
In my opinion, the voice of Jo sounded too masculine. For the most part these performers transported me to the basement where all the mistakes were made.

This domestic thriller was fast paced with some humorous dialogue. Kiersten Modglin pulled out all the stops with the shocking twists. This is by far my favorite book by Kiersten Modglin.

Thank you Dreamscape Media, Net Galley and Kiersten Modglin. This is my honest opinion

I was thrilled to get this audiobook. This was a quick, fast paced ,twisty thriller. It was 4.5 hours but since I increase the speed it was done in 2 hours.

Andi is able to see her husbands location on a sharing app and is wondering why her husband is at home in the middle of the day? It was comical to see how quickly in her mind she escalated to the worst possible things. She hears something in the basement. Then her husband tells her "Don't go down there.."Which of course is going to be the first thing she wants to do, Then she discovers his secret. Yikes! There is a big ICK factor when the truth is revealed.

That is what makes this author great as she manages to keep shocking you time and time again. Just when you think you have seen it all she pulls out all the punches with one. Can hardly wait to see what she will write next.

Wow. This is my 13th book by Kiersten Modglin after discovering her on Instagram (where the fans call her KMod and I absolutely cringe). Some of her books are great, and some not great. Very very happy to say Don't Go Down There is one of her best books.

This was an audio arc from Netgalley and Dreamscape Media, and I literally gasped when I discovered the male narrator was SCOTT BRICK! If you don't know him, he is the Superbowl quarterback of narrators. His voice is melodic and he delivers every sentence as though he wrote it himself. It is a coup that Dreamscape hired him for this audio and I encourage you to add him to your list if you are an audio book reader (listener? I go either way when describing my 40+ year relationship with audio books).

In short, a wife, an (awful) husband, a mistress.......a basement.....lies.....really bad plans....questionable moral choices.....muuurdeeer. This had it all and delivered it in a nicely wrapped box.

The only downside - the length. On audio it was only 4.5 hours and according to Amazon, it's a 204 page book. I did a small amount of web-based research and am very unclear on what defines a novel, novella or short story. I don't know where this fits, but I wish this had gone on longer.

Thank you Dreamscape and Netgalley for allowing me to listen in advance of the May 4, 2023 release date.

Thank you to NetGalley, Kiersten Modglin and Dreamscape Media for an audio arc of Don't Go Down There in exchange for an honest review. This review is wholly my own and may not be reproduced.

This story was a shorter novella at only 4.5 hours listening time (cut down to 1.5 hours at my listening speed).

I did not read the synopsis ahead of time. I quite enjoyed a full-length Kiersten Modglin audio arc a little while back and figured I couldn't lose with this one.

In a nutshell - Spencer & Cassandra (Andie) are a married couple. Andie is unable to reach Spencer one day and gets worried about him so she leaves work early to go home & check on in. She finds his belongs in the house, but he is nowhere to be found. She then hears a noise coming from the basement and is standing in front of the door to go down, when her husband surprises her from behind saying "Don't go down there." He then reveals that he had been having an affair and when he tried to break it off, the woman tripped & hit her head on the counter and then fell down the basement stairs. She is alive, but he has bound and gagged her. His plan is to kill her. But, will Andie's sweet, people-pleasing conscience let that happen?

This story is mostly told from Andie's perspective, but a few of Spencer's POV are mixed in.

Overall - I wasn't really in love with the story, but for novella, it was decent. I'm sure if it had been a full novel, there would have been more room to elaborate and really get into things more. There was a surprise twist at the end that I hadn't seen coming and that may really be the only thing that kept me from not liking the whole things.

I did also appreciate the message that women need to support other women or there might not be anyone else who will.

Quick paced and if you're a fan of Kiersten Modglin, I'd definitely say it's worth a read. It's a fast one!

3.5/5 Stars

DON'T GO DOWN THERE, took me by surprise. I can always expect Kiersten Modglin to throw in a twist that I can never see coming. This was a fairly short novel you'll have no trouble finishing in a day's time. I am still in shock by what happened to Andi. She really was in a nightmare situation. I was hoping things would be alright for her in the end. This is the perfect book to add to your TBR list, if you enjoy a great mystery/thriller.

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for my gifted audiobook.

I found the summary of Don’t Go Down There to be short and interesting. It states that Andi has to figure out what to do when she discovers her husband's sinister secret locked in the basement. You do not have to wait long to find out what the secret is. While the secret itself is not surprising, there are a lot of surprises along the way to the conclusion.

The book manages to pack a lot into such a small package. This is a book that you can finish in one sitting and it will be hard not to. It is told through multiple points of view and timelines but was never confusing. I enjoyed the back-and-forth between both time and characters.

Being that this book is so short it's an easy one to recommend on that alone, but I recommend this one based on the writing and the story. Check out Don’t Go Down There, you won’t be disappointed.

I did not see that coming! Color me shocked!

KMOD has done it again!

Spencer and Andi Edwards appear to have it all - a happy marriage and two perfect children. Andi gets the shock of her life when she comes home and finds Spencer there. He has a warning for her "Don't Go Down There" referring to their basement. Will she go down there, or will she stay upstairs????

This was a tense thriller that can easily be read and/or listened to in one day. It's a short 169 pages or 4 hours 332 minutes for the audiobook. I listened to the audiobook and thought the narrators did a fantastic job. Good choice having more than one! KMOD packed a lot into this story and as I mentioned, she shocked me! I thought I knew what was going to happen...…I wasn't even close!

As this is short, we are only given what we need to know. We get minimal backstory on the characters, but I didn't feel I needed more as this was not a full-fledged novel. This one kept me on my toes and I did not want to stop listening to the audiobook as I was fully invested in what was happening in the story.

If you are looking for a short, entertaining, and tense story. This will fit the bill. She gets big props for the shocking twist and reveal at the end. Big props for the narrators as well. I can't wait to read what she writes next!
