I honestly wasn’t sure about this one going in…it sounded like a thriller romance which is a step away from what I normally read.

Be warned. There is some seeeeeriously heavy content in this book. Domestic, verbal, physical and occasionally sexual abuse run pretty much all the way through it. It’s extremely difficult to see a female character THAT broken and terrified in a marriage.

And no matter how bad a marriage is, I just cannot reconcile infidelity in any way, especially on the male character’s part, as he has a loving family, even if his wife is distant. I’m so conflicted about it though, because I really wanted Rosamund to experience some sort of happiness in this book, but it just felt wrong.

This book has trigger warnings for a reason, and it was a bit much for me.

I really enjoyed The Gilded Cage. I was drawn in and eager to find out what would unfold with these characters. There are some hard to read themes, but it makes you root for Rosamund.

Luisa A. Jones does a great job in creating unique characters that I enjoyed a lot getting to know them. It worked overall in a historical way and glad I was able to go on this journey. It worked overall in the novel I was glad I got to read this and thoroughly enjoyed the journey.

This was so good. I was hooked and had to know what happened. This kept me entertained and it was perfect for by the pool.

While the subject matter is uncomfortable at times, the book is clearly well researched and gives an insight in to the lives of women and the lower classes at the turn of the 20th century, I read it in a day and Will seeking out more of the author’s work
