A Matched Pair, If Only They Could Get Past their Pride

Clare and Iain are ready to ignite at the smallest spark. He must have certain property she owns, but she has plans for that same property. Iain did not get to where he was by accepting rejection easily. He is a ruthless businessman. He did come out of the slums and made it rich. He did come back from the dead, too, but that is a story for another time. Iain must do anything to get that property, but the lady turns his world on its ear. Unlike any woman he ever knew, she stripped his pride and seduced him without lifting a finger. She keeps saying "no" to selling him the property, at any price, but her body was his from the very beginning. Their romance was raw, but could the physical need turn into love? What will happen to the property that brought them together? Could Clare bring Iain to his knees just by merely existing? I enjoyed this gritty, seductive romance and look forward to what this author writes next. It is sure to be entertaining.

This is the second installment of the series, Unexpected Heirs of London. The story was captivating and pulled me in from the very start. Lady Clare was a lovely character, and I enjoyed seeing her determination. She wanted to expand the orphanage she inherited from her late husband, and Sir Iain wanted the same piece of land to expand d his business. Tue two go head-to-head with each other, but deep down also respect each other. Not to mention the fact that they were very attracted to one another, which brought about some really spicy scenes! The story was well-written with interesting characters and I am anxious to see what the next story brings!

Loved the twists and turns this story took and the relationship between Lady Clare Logan and Sir Iain Buchanan. Claire is a widow and trying to continue the good work her husband had started but is being thwarted by Iain, a seemingly underhanded business man. The passion between them grows as their secrets are exposed, and you won't be able to put this book down.

Clawing his way out of the filthy streets of Glasgow, Iain Buchanan has established himself as a successful, but relentless business man. Lady Claire Logan has plans for property left to her by her husband. Her dream to expand the Logan School For The Orphans and Unfortunates is in limbo. Iain wants the property and claims her dead husband made a gentlemen's agreement. The property is his to purchase. It's quid pro quo in negotiating for the property and carries over into the passion that sizzles between them. I was surprised how quickly their relationship developed into raw physical encounters that are very descriptive. This is no soft romance. It gets a little gritty, but I loved reading this book! This is a keeper!

Trying to make a deal over some property really leads to an erotic romance!

The overall plot was pretty simple. Lady Clare doesn't want to sell some of her property so she can honor her late husband dream of expanding the school. Of course Sir Ian has built up his empire from the ground up and wants to add to it. These two really argue with eachother, but deep down have so much respect for one another.

Of course the romantic scenes in this book are plentiful and spicy. That is what kept me reading versus the overall plot. Nothing fans the flames in this book!

Thank you to Dragonblade and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.

A very interesting story about fate, and how it strange works, my only issue with this book is that there is much narration that leads to nothing, i skipped a lot of the dialogues and still didn't miss anything.

This was an incredibly boring book. Too much time and too many words spent on stock character’s names and titles, where everyone is standing during a meeting, absolutely no chemistry between the characters and too many silly side stories. It was a pain to read and felt like the author put very little care into writing.

An interesting view on the widow relationship. I found her family dynamics to be hoped but not realistic as most refreshing. Although in fiction we want it all to work out. When not everything does its actually appealing but only when you get an HEA. The surprise at the end was intriguing and unforseen. Although I have reD other books in the series, these books tend to be stand alone with an underlining theme. There were a couple of scenes I skipped over but all in all a good well rounded book.
I recieved a free copy so that I might tell you what I honestly think. Hope you enjoyed my review. Now go enjoy the book.

Smart and sexy romance!

Above all else, this book demonstrates the importance of trust in a relationship by showing how a lack of trust shadows every interaction and impedes their progress towards their HEA.

Ian is a true self-made man, one who wields almost mafia-like powers with his wealth and connections. His hard-scrabble background renders him a sympathetic character, but it's still hard at times to think of the lengths he'll go to in order to achieve his goals.

Clare is as forthright and transparent as a woman can be while still protecting her own interests. I loved how she was willing to stand up to Ian and all the other men on both sides of the bargaining table, always with an abundance of grace and class.

These two definitely had chemistry in spades, and I loved that Ian was deliciously dominant while still respecting Clare as a woman and an adversary. I loved the introduction to cranachan, though I would not recommend using it as they did in the story.

Their HEA was achieved without either side losing the battle, and I truly adored their complex journey of the heart. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

A Lady’s Agreement by Terri Brisbin is an entertaining novel of commerce and business, as well has changing one’s life for the better through determination. Lady Clare Logan had alienated her entire family by marrying down, in their eyes. As it turned out, her marriage was not all she had hoped for, but she never shared that with anyone. She’s only been married for two and a half years before her husband, Jonathon, died, leaving all his holdings to her. For most of those businesses she had competent managers, but she ran the school herself, a school for orphans and indigents. She hope to expand it to include a school for older children wherein they could learn a trade. It had been her husband’s dream. Now, a man named Sir Iain Buchanan wanted the land she had earmarked for that purpose and was hounding her to sell it to him. He had doubled and tripled his price, and apparently could not be put off. She made arrangements to meet him at his establishment, where she learned how overpowering physical attraction could be.

This was an intricately woven novel, full of many things that did not directly pertain to the story, and yet, did. She would not allow herself to be fooled by a man. He knew she was too good for him. Neither of them could resist. Excellent character development. There was still the matter of the property to be solved, but more importantly, what was happening to the children. Why had they stopped coming to school. Surely he would not sink that low? Interesting story. They negotiated and made deals with one another. He was a surprise, in the most interesting way. This was a terrific romance and a good novel. Thanks, Terri Brisbin!

A Lady’s Agreement by Terri Brisbin
Unexpected Heirs of Scotland #2

Started with a punch that made me root for the male lead from the first page ~ Great addition to the series!

What I liked:
* Sir Iain Buchanan: knight, self-made man, wealthy, bright, takes charge, will not be taken advantage of, ruthless, will not harm a child, intriguing
* Lady Clare Logan: widow, wealthy, focused on educating poor youth, cut off by her parents, strong, resilient, bright, more open than she may appear
* The way Iain and Clare meet – mistaken identity
* The backstories of both though Iain’s was darker
* The secrets both kept and what their motivations were
* That the two are well matched in more ways than one
* Seeing the characters from the first book in the series
* Getting to know some of the supporting characters
* The way the HEA comes to fruition in the end
* Being able to visualize Edinburgh having been there almost a year ago

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about how ruthless some people can be and their total disregard of others

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes

Lady Clare Logan flies in the face of convention in this exciting romance. Having married a commoner against her authoritarian father's wishes, Clare worked alongside her late husband to build a school and orphanage for destitute children. Unfortunately, she was unaware of some of her husband's dealings which left her having to face the determined and forceful Sir Iain Buchanan. Iain has reached his limits in negotiating for the dockside property that now belongs to the disgraced Lady Clare, but he does not expect her to fight back, nor does he anticipate her breaking down the barriers in his heart and soul that he has so carefully nurtured to keep him safe. Iain and Clare are strongly attracted to one another, bringing them to a point where the heat between them is combustible. As a result, when Clare feels that she has been betrayed, the hurt is almost too painful to bear and Iain comes to the realization that a grand gesture is in order. The novel fortunately does come to a successful conclusion and love wins the day. I received a copy of this well-written romance as a gift through DragonBlade Publishing and NetGalley and this is my honest and voluntary review.

His offer for Logan’s property has been refused, again, even though they had a verbal agreement. When he shows up to confront and demands to see the owner, Sir Iain Buchanan gets a surprise. Insulting the owner of the property, widowed Lady Claire Logan will not get the deal done. Stalemate. She won’t sell, and he interferes with her plans for the property. Ian and Claire have an exciting actioned-filled story. They are both independent and stubborn, and they are perfect for each other, even though they don’t know it right away. The entertaining story is filled with schemes, plots, a few surprises, and a steamy romance. Great read!

Cutthroat arrogance & ambition collides so sweetly with passionate determination & overwhelming temptation!

Plunged into the squalor and blood thirsty gutters of Glasgow and then straight into the bittersweet hopes and innocence of a Leith orphanage, pulled me in instantly and hinted at the strength and resilience of Iain and Clare as their worlds collided and remained forever altered. Where that spark and recognition of coming across an opponent, that can neither be underestimated or disrespected, had me intrigued and compelled to dig deeper into this pair and enjoy peeling back each tantalising layer.
I really liked A LADY'S AGREEMENT there was this pulsing desire that blurred the lines between respect and business with this intense craving of need and want, that opened up a stimulating game of wit, savvy negotiation and underhand dealings with a heady overlaying of seduction, that awakened new desires wants and needs, within our leads, that just refused to be ignored. Amassing into a sexually charged tension that radiated beneath the vulnerability, overriding struggles, guilt and uncertainty tipped passion-fueled allure as they confronted, challenged, parried, ran to and retreated from each other, until both grew so irredeemably entangled and absorbed they became the perfect foil.
As Iain, the methophorial phoenix that rose from the ashes of such hardship and cruelty, attempted to skirt the boundaries between his past life on the streets and new found nobility as he hit a deliciously tempting wall, in the shape of unconformist widow and intelligent, struggling business woman, Clare over the rites of a Leith warehouse that doesn't just optimise the accumulation of their individual dreams but the loss and struggles they amassed on the path to achieve them.
A really enjoyable, statisfying read that took me to places I never expected to go. With its well fleshed out characters and the honest, hard hitting truths, unresolved regrets, riddling guilt and seductive-meets-intimately-sweet, steam wrapped, romance, they became enveloped in.

Widowed Lady Clare Logan has great plans for her property but keeps getting blocked. The man behind all her problems is a lot more than he appears.
Sir Iain Buchanan dragged himself out of the gutters of Glasgow and made his fortune. Obviously not everything he has done is ethical.
This steamy historical romance is full of fiercely independent characters, and lots of devious deals. It's non stop action all the way through.A very exciting story that is part of a series of stand alone romances.
I loved it.

This is a story of two very intelligent and very lonely people who have thrown their lives totally into their "careers". When their lives cross paths over an interest in a tract of land she owns and he wants, the sparks fly. But neither is looking for a relationship, commitment, love.
They go back and forth. Each trying to out think and out maneuver the other. But in the end they actually need each other.
I'm not sure I actually liked either of these characters. The book was good but not great.
31/2 stars rounded up.
I want to thank Netgalley for the opportunity to review this y.

I had a tough time getting into and staying into this book. I never felt the chemistry between Lady Clare and Iain. There was certainly sexual chemistry but otherwise it was hard to believe their continued interest in one another. The dialogue throughout felt flat and underdeveloped.

Spice rating 4/5

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it is the first one I have read by this author and I have to say it will be the first of many. It was steamy enough without distracting from the main story and I could clearly picture what Iain looked like from the description of him. I wasn’t sure if the story was going to be gripping enough at first, but it didn’t disappoint.
I enjoyed how Lady Claire was a force to be reckoned with and how much Iain underestimated her from the start, but he still kept on underestimating her at every turn expecting her to crumble.
Did she give in to her desires or did she stay strong ?? To find out you will have to read this yourself…..

I enjoyed this story, a slow burn romance with intensity and two strong characters in Lady Clare and Sir Iain.

He wants her property and her...

Lady Clare is a widow who is mistaken as a housemaid when Sir Iain barges into her world. He is instantly attarcted to her, moreover, he wants her property. Bad, So, he'll take them both.
I liked Lady Clare, but Iain was much harder to like. He was from the streets and reinvented himself. But he did grow on me as the book progressed. Business and steamy times.
