A book that instantly pulls you in. A exciting tale that leaves you hanging with uncertainty throughout and I was unsure of the circumstances but it is definitely thrilling and will get the blood pumping.

Wendy Clarke is up there on the list of favourite @bookouture authors. I have adored every book by this author to date and this has been no different.

The Night Out is addictive and gripping. Clarke is a queen of pulling the reader in and making it impossible to put this one down.

Elise is a believeable character and one who you can say so much about. Her husband knows very little about her past which adds extra suspense to this one. This was enough to completely pull me in.

I found myself frantically wanting more from this one. It’s without a doubt Clarke’s best yet. I have adored this from beginning to end.

Clarke is able to make my pulse race with this book. I have loved every moment of this book and can safely say I’m excited to see what’s coming next.

Wendy Clarke’s The Night Out is a chilling, unpredictable and terrifying thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.

Elsie and Sean are enjoying their first night out since the birth of their daughter, Kitty. Having gone to their favourite wine bar, the couple are relishing the opportunity to have some fun and to let their hair down for a change. However, fun soon turns out to be the very last thing on both of their minds when they go back home and find a police car waiting outside their house! Apparently, somebody had reported Kitty missing and although Sean is relieved that his daughter is safe and sound, Elsie knows that this was a warning and the start of a nightmare she has been trying to escape for almost two decades…

Elsie has secrets. Secrets she has worked very hard to keep for the past fifteen years. Back then, Elsie had no choice but to tell the police lie after lie, so now she wants them out of her house as quickly as possible. If the police start digging into her past, Elsie is petrified of what they might uncover – and she cannot run the risk of her perfect life being ruined. But her greatest enemy is out there watching her every move just waiting for the right time to strike and make her pay for what she did fifteen years ago…

Wendy Clarke’s The Night Out is packed with menacing twists and turns, heart-stopping tension and chilling shocks and surprises that will keep readers up all night. Wendy Clarke knows how to make her readers jump out her skin by ramping up the suspense and danger to such an extent that putting the book down will prove impossible – and that is certainly the case with The Night Out.

A superb psychological thriller, Wendy Clarke knocks it out of the park yet again with The Night Out.

The book opens with Elise and her husband Sean returning home after having a meal out. This is their first outing since the birth of their daughter Kitty. Megan, Elise’s daughter by her first husband, has been left at home to babysit. Elise is horrified to find police cars outside their home as they have had a report of a missing baby. Elise panics but is relieved to find Megan and Kitty fast asleep. Who had rung the police with the message? Next day Elise receives an envelope containing a newspaper cutting from her past and she realises that someone else knows the dark secrets from her past and she fears for her family’s safety. Teenage Megan starts questioning Elise about her father and is determined to find out what secrets her mum is hiding. The story moves between the present and the past as we discover what happened to Elise and the secrets that she has been keeping. This is a tense and emotional read with unexpected twists and turns. A highly enjoyable book.

Wow! This one threw me for a loop and as I finished the book there were tears streaming down my face. That rarely happens, and when a writer can pull that emotion from a reader you know they've done their job!

Elise is in an untenable situation. She's in a relationship and pregnant with their child when she realizes her husband isn't the man she thought he was. Add to that the fact that he's a police officer, and she has no recourse. So she does the unthinkable.

It takes a while for the author to reveal the secret Elise has fought to hold onto so desperately, but when she does, WHAM! It smacks up against the reader, and before you've gotten your feet under you, POW! Another surprise blindsides you until like me, your emotions are all over the place.

Thank you Wendy Clarke for making me "feel" this one.

Thanks also to NetGalley and Bookouture for an advance reader's copy of The Night Out.

I really enjoyed this book! I did appreciate the trigger warnings. Lots of twists and turns that kept me on the end of my seat. I also like the “then and now” aspect of the book. I will definitely be reading more from this author!

This is the first book by this author I've read, and it won't be the last.

The Night Out was packed with twists and turns, following Elise and her daughter 'now' and regularly flicks back to 'then' where we get to see many secrets Elise's is hiding about her troubled past relationship. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks to #NetGalley the author and publisher for an ARC of this book. #TheNightOut

I inhaled this book!
(Not literally)
This book is fabulous. I have loved Wendy Clarke's books for a long time, but this was AMAZING.
There are trigger warnings associated with this book, so some scenes may be difficult for readers. But to be honest, I think every reader will be uncomfortable reading this book. There are some truly abhorrent characters here, and Wendy Clarke has written them with superb skill to make them feel as real as they do.
The pacing doesn't let up, and even though it's hard to read, you won't be able to stop. This is easily 'read in one sitting' material.
The two timelines are just as compulsive as each other, I was gripped and spent the entire book with my heart in my mouth.
There was one element of the story that frustrated me SO much, but when I thought of it not being there, I thought what a different book it would have been!
And can we just take a moment to digest THAT ending?!?! WOW.
Well done, Wendy Clarke, this is my new favourite of your books.

Another great read from Wendy Clarke. I love a story told in dual timelines. This one had great characters and an amazing build up to an ending I could never have imagined.
Many thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC

I could not put this down! Phenomenally twisty and turny. I stayed up way too late finishing this one. What an amazing read. The characters were wonderful. The pace of this book was insane. It was a breakneck speed rollercoaster of a read. So well written and the twists were jaw dropping. Some seriously heart stopping moments in this one! A great read!

This story was somehow so incredibly predictable and also just plucked out from thin air.

In the first 15% of the book we learn that Elise believes her ex Alex is after her because she took their now 15 year old daughter Megan away from him when she was just a baby. The rest of the story is just learning about the past when Alex and Elise met and had Megan, and the present of Elise being protective of her children and family. It’s much too long and unnecessary in my opinion.

Then the twist ending comes out and I suppose the story needed something to happen in order to have a plot line but really. Not for me.

I found this book to just be an average thriller, I liked it but didn't love it. It did have a decent twist ending and Elise was an interesting character.

Wow so this book kept my head spinning it starts out with an over protective mother coming home from a night out to find the police at her front door saying her baby is missing but the baby is still upstairs in the cot. Who would make such a prank call and why has it put her more on edge. As secrets from the past start to spill out and one child’s quest for the truth could put them all in danger the truth is even more unexpected in this book that will turn all your assumptions on their head.

3.5 stars

Secrets and lies always make for an interesting domestic thriller. For a hot minute, I thought maybe some characters were telling the truth, but nope! I don’t always like books that go back and forth in the timeline but this one was handled well. The pacing was quick at the beginning and ending but had to fill in a lot of story in the middle. In the end, I thought I knew what was going on for most of the story but I should know better by now. I really enjoyed that ending!!

The Night Out by Wendy Clarke was another excellent book. I was hooked from the very beginning till the end.
Wendy has a way of telling a story that will just have you hooked almost immediately.
The story began relatively slow really setting the scene with twists and turns along the way.
Wonderfully written, with amazing character development made the story much more intriguing and engaging! Her storytelling is captivating.
A clever and suspenseful thriller that will keep you totally absorbed and turning the pages all night.

You know there is always a twist that you just don’t see coming. Weirdly, I thought this twist at one moment, but that is because I was confusing this with a different book, not because I would have guessed it. I had so many guesses running through my mind and alas none were right (when you factor in the correct details of the story).

Such an easy to read book. I didn’t get really invested until about halfway, but at that point I did not want to put it down. I really like reading these books where I can tax my brain to come up with 100 wacky theories and then have none of them be true. There are dual timelines and multiple narrators. I really liked Sean, knew enough not to like Alex and waffled a bit on Megan and Elise. Not liking characters is not a deal breaker for me. I just need to be invested and want to know more. There were a couple of things I was very interested in knowing but will keep quiet on as to not spoil any part of the plot.

I like the little discoveries along the way as a complicated plot unlayers itself almost as much as I love a big twist I did not see coming. This had both. The complicated story that the details came out here and there along with the epic twist, which the author is know for.

If you are a fan of domestic suspense stories where everything is not what it seems, then this one is for you.

This was one pretty gripping story from start to finish. It had me captivated throughout, wondering what would happen next and trying to figure out how it would all play out in the end. I liked how the story was told in two parts, running along side each other, one in the past and one in the present.

I thought it was really well written.

So if you’ve been wondering whether to give Wendy Clarke’s books a go, then all I can say is don’t delay any further, go her a try, as if you love psychological thrillers you’ll not regret it.
