WHEW!

This one is AMBITIOUS!

It's several different stories crammed into one - the middle schooler connecting with her grandmother for the summer, the middle schooler escaping a cyberbullying scandal by disappearing for a while, the story of a small family-owned business struggling to survive, and, of course, the story of an immortal monster causing giant earthquakes unless its penchant for boba is appeased daily at the same time.

Every one of these storylines hits well, and the love between grandmother and granddaughter is evident not just in the scenes they share but in the pain evident on their faces by the secrets they have to shield each other from.

Read in black and white for the ARC, this one promises to be GORGEOUS in full color!

Very cute graphic novel! Aria’s grandmother is secretly keeping a boba-loving monster at bay in order to keep the city safe. Once Aria learns the secret, she does all she can to help her grandmother. The relationship between Aria and her grandmother is so sweet. It really shows the special bond between grandchildren and grandparents. I think young readers will enjoy the storyline and art. Thank you NetGalley and Abrams Kids for the arc.
