This was an entertaining listen. I found myself drawn in and anxious to see how Evie was going to get herself out her situation. Alex and Evie bonded quickly over common interests and undeniable attraction. Their romance continues with such longing and passion. It was fun watching Alex struggle with all his false beliefs on women. The uncomfortable anguish of hiding the truth while emotions grow was felt so strongly. I enjoyed the tension this created. The mystery elements were compelling, and completely surprised me. A great story!

This is my first time reading something by this author, but it definitely won't be my last. It's a delightful little twist on the prince and the pauper and was such fun to read. Aimee, an American heiress, convinces her cousin Evie to take her place as she goes off on an adventure. Evie reluctantly agrees, thinking she can just enjoy being the heiress for a bit and gently reject any suitors that come her way in the meantime. But she never anticipated meeting Alex, Duke of Hargrave. Alex's cousin fancies himself in love with the American heiress, and Alex is determined to prove that she is only looking for an English title. But Alex never anticipated the fire and passion he would feel after just one kiss with her. They both end up falling for each other, but Evie is only masquerading as an heiress and Alex is an actual duke. Once Evie exposes the truth, will they still be able to have a future together?
The story was well-written and entertaining the characters had excellent chemistry. This is definitely an author I will be looking out for and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Think your classic twin switchero, but with older heroines, and unexpected love matches thrown in for the two doing the swapping. Are you with me?

Aimee and Evie both love their own lives...BUT...Aimee is restless, and Evie wouldn’t say no to a little freedom that comes with a title. For Aimee, the answer is getting to spread her wings within her father’s business, if only he’ll take her seriously. For Evie, the answer is time and resources to explore her true passions. The solution for them both, a swap of places where those they are with will be none the wiser, they can experience just what they’ve been after, and nothing could POSSIBLY go wrong. Right? Umm, yeah, about that. As is often the case, things go left of center just when everything seemed to be smooth sailing, creating havoc the likes of which a bull in a china shop could only be equally compared. Mad props to both ladies for sticking to their guns, facing adversity (no matter how charming, disarming, or pig-headed!), and coming out on top, even if it was with a few more bumps and bruises to color their world.

A great addition to the genre with fabulous characters and a great story-line you just can’t get enough of...or at least I couldn’t! Nothing but love for this book birthday celebrant, so join the party, and grab yourself a copy today!

I waited to write this review because I wholly didn't enjoy this book. The beginning was a slog and the first chapter was a struggle to get through because it felt like reading the same thing paragraph after paragraph with no progress. This premise isn't new to the genre by any means, but I found that I didn't particularly enjoy the way it play out nor did I like the characters. I had to force myself to finish it, which I honestly wouldn't have even done if this wasn't for Netgalley.

Absolutely perfection! A great historical romance that ticks all the right trope boxes. I highly recommend you check it out.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an arc of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

New author for me, and I am already eager for the sequel. To me, this book is a late 1800 combo of Cinderella and a favorite 1960s TV comedy about two cousins, who look alike and sometimes talk alike (one is British and the other American). Yvette Jenkins' parents died when she was a baby and then when she was sixteen, her maternal aunt who had raised her also perished. At that time, her paternal uncle found out about her and brought her to America. But they all believe that she is illegitimate. She acts as her cousin Aimee's companion, her choice, not her aunt and uncle. She is not interested in riches, expensive clothing or balls, but is fascinated by history and fossels. Aimee's parents are sending the two young women to London, Aimee to find a titled gentlemen to marry and for Evie to train as a secretary in her uncle's company's London headquarters. Evie has no interest in being a secretary, while Aimee's dream is to learn the business so she can take it over when her father is ready to retire. Aimee talks Evie into switching places when they get to London. What will Evie get? The chance to see all the museums in London, as she has no interest in the ton. So Aimee goes to stay with the company's secretary, while Evie hosted by the Countess of Brexton, a family friend.

Meanwhile, Alexander Trenton, the sixth Duke Hargrove, the nephew of the Countess, is a very unhappy man. His mother, tired of the abuse of his father, flees when Alex is a child, promising to come back for him, but doesn't. His father then turns his abuse to his son. Alex is later betrayed by his fiancee, an American Dollar Princess, when he finds her with her lover the night before their wedding. Ten years later he is a bitter man, not trusting women. When Evie comes to stay with his aunt, he believes that she is after his cousin Samuel Ellingsworth, the Earl of Brexton. He thinks his cousin is naive, and decides to seduce her himself. However, he soon learns that she really has no interest in marriage, but like him is interested in paleontology. Meanwhile, Sam has his own plan, to make Alex jealous, as he sees that the Evie is perfect for him. And then there is an attempt on Evie's life. Who is the target? Evie or Alex? I guessed who the villain was in Chapter 26. Wonderful characters, a fake engagement, adventure, danger and lots of lovely banter make this a very entertaining read.

The story is truly heartwarming; we have enemies to lovers trope, secret identities, forced fake engagement, and even a little mystery to solve.
It's a historical romance that captivated me from the beginning. The plot is good and has potential, and although the book seemed a bit cheesy and predictable to me, the story progresses quickly, and the characters are fun and witty.

The chemistry between Evie and Alexander is great. Both are stubborn, challenging, but perfect for each other. Their rather sweet shared connection over fossils is something I had never seen before and found charming since their common interests build their relationship very realistically. They both risk everything they have for their love.

"I don't know quite what I expected of you, Miss Thornton- jones, but you certainly haven't been it."

The Duke of Hargrave really grew on me. Who can resist a Duke?

"It was beyond invigorating, it was intoxicating..... He was starting to care for her, which he couldn't continue to allow, but with a sinking suspicion, he thought it might already be too late."

I felt that the ending was a bit rushed; I would have liked them to emphasize things that had potential but weren't developed as I would have liked, but all in all, I greatly enjoyed it. I recommend it if you're in the mood for an easy and quick read! I'm really looking forward to reading more of Maddison Michaels' books!

This is kinda like The Prince and the Pauper but in Regency times, with cousins, and the two who switch are ladies! I love the character work in this book. The relationships that the main characters have with their family and friends was great to see. There's a lot of witty banter and I would characterize this work as fun! It's an enjoyable read. Love how the main characters (Evie and Alex) bicker but also have a common hobby. It did feel like they would do well being married to one another and it was easy to be invested in their relationship.

What I nitpick about this book:

Alex's constant thinking of Evie being a Dollar Princess (rich heiress looking for a titled husband) was a bit tiring. He brought it up at every meeting they had and there was no evidence that she wanted that. And I know he had a rough past with Dollar Princess' but still - it was too much for me.

Also I was not the biggest fan of the first intimate scene. It just felt awkward. It is most likely a me thing.

Overall, a fun and funny historical romance. I look forward to more books in this series.

An enthralling and delightful historical romance, filled with deceit and love, and sizzling chemistry.

Just finished this book, and love it!! The idea of a swap is not new, but how the author built the story is very clever. And talking about fossils in a romance novel is surely rare. How the hero was hurt in the past collide with a sad childhood of the heroine, and their love of archaeology joins them together. A light but meaningful read.

Maddison Michaels is just a magician when it comes to historical romance with the right amount of love, drama and suspense!

So it's no surprise that THE HEIRESS SWAP has ALL THAT! ❤️

Evie and Aimee are cousins. Where Aimee is an American heiress, Evie is just an English young woman with nothing at all.
Aimee wants to swap places to get the secretary traineeship and for six weeks Evie has to pretend to be Aimee in London society.
Of course this swap turns to be more complicated than both thought... because when Evie meets Alexander Trenton, the 6th Duke of Hargrave, he turns her world upside down... and nothing goes as planned...

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS STORY!
Swapping places sounded soooo exciting! I knew there'd be some surprise and lots of complications! But they were absolutely worth it!
The love story of Evie and Alex has it all! What started as sceptical hate turned into soooo much more!
OMG I looooved the banter between Evie and Alex right from the start! I laughed so hard and so much! 🤣
Alex is suspicious because he didn't had the best experience with young American women coming to England. For him they're all just Dollar Princesses. They want to marry rich to be wealthy... but Evie isn't like that... not just because she pretends to be her cousin.
Awwwwww!
But he doesn't know that! And as they spend more time together there's something changing... awwwww!
Okay, okay! I can't tell you too much because I don't wanna spoil you!
READ THIS STORY AND FALL IN LOVE AS MUCH AS I DID! ❤️
The chemistry between Evie and Alex WAS PURE PERFECTION!!! I loved and enjoyed their whole story so much! ❤️

So The Heiress Swap is a wonderful historical romance with enemies-to-lovers elements, lots of palpable chemistry, so much love and emotions, drama! and suspense!

Thank you so much to Maddison Michaels and Entangled Publishing for this ARC via NetGalley.
This is my honest review in my own words.

Sorry for the delayed review.

This was a really fun and sexy historical romp! I am often uncomfortable with plots that are based on deception, but Madison Michaels pulled this off! Both characters are doing enough deceiving while also being their true selves that it never feels like anyone is TRYING to lie, they're both just saving face. I really enjoyed this book and will certainly look for more from this author!

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel though I wasn't sure how I was going to feel because it was about two cousins switching places with each other, and I figured it would be filled with hijinks between the two, and accidental love stories. I was wrong. Evie is the illegitimate and companion to her cousin of Aimee, the American Dollar Princess. Aimee is told to go to England to find a husband like many American heiresses of the time period. Most go for a title, and find a poor, titled gentlemen who are looking to save their estates. However, Aimee has her own agenda. She wants to take an important role in her father's company, and feels her best chance is to start working in the London branch, She switches with places with Evie, so Evie can enjoy the freedom, and pursue her love of fossils. They agree to stay six weeks, Evie will explain she is not looking for marriage because she is on holiday, and will not accept any proposals. They will meet every Sunday to catch up, and after six weeks, go back home. Aimee will claim she could not find someone she wanted to marry, and start her true career with her father.
This works for Evie until she meets Alexander Trenton, the 6th Duke of Hargrave, or Alex to his friends. He has been burned by his past, At 6 years old, his mother deserts him by running away to American with a man, and never sees him again. Then, he falls for an American heiress who cheats on him the night before their wedding. Alex's cousin, Sam, comes to him, claiming he's in love with an American girl. To protect his cousin from being hurt, he sets out to prove to Sam the girl is only after his title and nothing more. Evie, who is scared to death of being caught, meets Alex, and the fireworks begin.
This was a breath of fresh air. You can feel the relationship between Evie and Alex build naturally, and can feel for them when they are caught in a passionate embrace by his cousin, Sam....hmmm....brilliant set up?...another cousin and his wife, and two aunts, and are forced to publicly announce their engagement. They enter a fake engagement, and learn even more about each other. You can feel the passion and deep feelings develop without any graphic sex, just a little fun in a carriage, but nothing more until the end of the novel. It is more about the romance, which was wonderful. While Evie is lying about her identity, everything else is true. They both share their love of fossils,
I wish their had been more interaction between Aimee and Evie besides their quick conversations once a week. What happens when Aimee goes to Alex's estate?
I do hope there will be a sequel, and get Aimee's story. The hints given make it sound like a wonderful and fun story!
I will be happy to purchase this novel, and read it again. I may actually break up my readings, and not ignore everyone and everything until I was finished with the novel. I will also recommend this to anyone who would love a wonderful romance during the Recency period that focuses more on the story instead of endless descriptions of what everyone was wearing, eating, and daily diaries of everything.
This is for a mature audience as there is one chapter of two graphic, but well written, intimate scenes.

I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me through NetGalley. This book was just absolutely wonderful. It was just so easy to get lost in and I just couldn’t put it down. I just lost myself within this amazing story. I most definitely will read more by this author.

Okay, this one was super cute. I love historical romance especially when the characters have this much chemistry. I loved following the story of Alex and Evie if they fell in love. I loved how much they bonded over paleontology and that they both didn't want to get married ad fought their feelings for each other from the start of the novel. I also loved how the author brought in this element of romantic suspense so the characters had to

I just couldn’t get in to this story and I’m not sure what happened. I usually love Maddison’s books! Alex and Evie were so cute and I did love their banter, but I just didn’t feel the emotion from either of the characters and I wanted more angst from Evie and the deception she was involved in.

Evie agrees to swap places with her cousin Aimee on a trip to England. Evie will attend balls and turn down any proposals of marriage as an American heiress, while Aimee will take a secretarial course at her father's business. Evie is the orphaned illegitimate cousin and companion to her wealthy cousin Aimee. She wants this chance to go to museums and study fossils while Aimee wants to learn her father's business and run it one day. When Alex's cousin Sam is instantly smitten with Evie/Aimee, Alex is determined to prove she is an American Dollar Princess just out for a title. Just like the American fiancee who cheated on him 10 years ago. They share an attraction and an interest in fossils but Evie is wracked with guilt over her deception. Fake engagement, attempted murder, (I was surprised by the villain!), cave exploring, and a little danger and mystery are all here. The ending was a little too pat regarding Evie, but I enjoyed the book.

I liked the fake identithy portion and how it worked and wouldn't mind reading the other side of it as well!

I love the princess and the pauper and this book gives me that kind of vibes. The characters grow, learn and evolve while also getting their love story. A really good book and I cannot wait for/if the cousin book.
